I agree with musical mamma. You should be able to eat solid protein. If you can only eat soft protein you need a slight unfill. How is the weight loss coming along?
-
Kim, if you are getting plugged up as much as I think you are you probably do not need another fill. If however, you are not losing 1-2 lbs per week and can eat more than 1/4 cup of food you may need a fill. It just depends on how much it bugs you to get plugged up. Good luck.

I lost 54 lbs my first year and I only worked out an average of 1x per week. I now work out 2x a week and I'm losing about 2 lbs per week now.

What the H!@!@!!! I got myself into?
juliegeraci replied to yummieT's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I totally freaked out before my surgery. I am so glad I had it done. What you are experiencing is normal. You picked a great reputable surgeon so you will be fine. -
Please help! I think I have a problem!
juliegeraci replied to SD Chick's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Call your surgeon. He can prescribe anti nausea medication. It really helped me post op. Good luck. -
Frank, congrats on hitting your goal. I am inpressed.

Schel, good job this a.m. Try and keep those red light foods out of the house. You can do this. One meal at a time.

YOu sound like a typical bandster with a finacky band. I too have the same results as you. I am losing at the same pace as you as well. The only way I would gauge it is if you can eat more than 1/4 cup of food at a time. If you can then you definitely need a fill. It sounds like you are, however at the right place. Because one way to measure is solid protein. You sound just like me. I can eat about 5-8 bites of solid protein but not much else.

Try it for a month and see how you do. I lost about 20 lbs pretty quickly. Good luck. -
Hunger after band??
juliegeraci replied to madfroglady's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
To go back to the hunger issue.....when you have the right restriction level the hunger does dissipate. -
Definitely protein shakes, creamy soups, yogurt, anything that can fit through a straw at the beginning. Once you move onto mushies you can have baked potatoes, cottage cheese, tuna salad and things like that. Creamy soups really kept me satisfied when I was on the liquid stage. Good luck.

Oh yes, the famous PB episode. I was in a restraunt with my husband and I couldn't make it to the bathroom and PBd right back into my soup bowl in front of everyone! Thankfully it didn't sound like I was vomitting so pretty much nobody looked. Funny.

How will I know when I can eat solids?
juliegeraci replied to HOTMOMMA's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Typically you will be back on solids 4 weeks post op. Just follow your surgeon's recommended diet. It will feel strange when you start to eat solids again because of the fear. Just cut your meat the size of a pencil eraser and chew really well. In addition, you may or may not feel any restriction. It just depends on how you are healing. Don't be surprised if you can eat the same amount you could preop. That will change once you start getting fills. Good luck. -
Maybe band leaking?
juliegeraci replied to spunky409's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon called my "weeping tubing". I typically lose .2ccs. 1.5 is a lot to lose. In my case, he used a "fix the flat" solution. It is thicker then saline and helps the saline stay in the band. In your case if your leak is that severe you may only be able to switch out your tubing. I think it is fairly minor though. Good luck. -
Bad news from my doctor
juliegeraci replied to cookielover's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The lapband is much slower. I had to lose about 102 lbs. I am 14 months in and have only lost about 55 lbs. So yes, it can be slower for some of us. I am an average loser. -
I have lost 86 lbs so far in the last year or so. I have only lost 55 lbs after being banded however. I see that as a success because I have totally changed my behavior around food. I no longer binge for one thing. It is nice to not be as hungry. I started in a 24-26 and now where 18 bottom, 14-16 top. I see that as a huge success.

Oh Honey, I am sorry you are feeling down today. I can honestly say I am shocked at what your nutritionist told you. You are fine on 40 grams of protein a day. Don't let her push you over the edge. You shouldn't be consuming more than 800-1200 calories a day. That is the diet for a bandster. Get ahold of your doctor and schedule a fill first. Then ditch the nutritionist. You can do this on your own by just counting calories. I start with 30 grams of protein every morning in a shake. I get the rest of my protein throughout the day. Don't kill yourself over it. Just eat what you can. You will be okay. Good luck to you. You can do this.

Sorry you are so frustrated. I can tell you this...you are not filled enough. You shouldn't be hungry. You should only be able to eat 1/4 cup of food for optimal restriction. You can get back on track. You need to speak to your surgeon and get this sorted out. 1-2 lbs a week is average. You are just about there. Don't be so frustrated. This is a marathon, not a short race.

Wow, you are doing great. Keep up the good work,
-
mjsafari, keep the faith. These things take time. I've only lost just a little over 50 lbs in 14 months. You will be okay.
-
Mine makes you stop eating about 2 hours before a fill. I stick to liquids for 24 hours, then mushies, then solids. There you go.
-
Donna, that is a really good deal. I spent probably $1800 my first year on fills. I would go for it.
-
I would definitley go in for a slight unfill. You should be able to handle all types of solid protein.
-
Jen, I would just keep reminding her that your food intake is limited and that you need to stick to your program.
-
Just ignore her. YOu will be fine.
