what happens with the stomach flu?
juliegeraci replied to Delaware's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had the stomach flu and tried to throw up and it didn't get past the band. It was so strange. The band blocked me from throwing up. Its happened more than once. -
Question for people banded for over a year
juliegeraci replied to MysticstarD's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wendell, thanks for the great post. Very informative. Julie -
Sweatpea and all the newbies out there. When you aren't filled it is just like NOT having a band. The average weight loss is only 1-2 lbs a week as well. You are being way to harsh on yourselves. I gained 7 lbs in between my fills when I first started. It is only natural when you go on solid food. It took me about 9 months to finally get good restriction and 5 fills. Take it easy. It will all come.

What a pair of jeans can do for lost hope!
juliegeraci replied to Texas_Mom_5573's topic in Insurance & Financing
Great NSV. I'm an 18 and can't wait until I hit 16 which is my goal. Good job! -
Dr. McKeen in San Jose is wonderful. He takes many Mexico patients. He typically doesn't fill under fluro because he is so good. He has no problem finding my low profile port on the first attempt. Good luck.

ettienne, how much food can you eat? If you are always hungry it might be time for a fill. You shouldn't be that hungry.
-
When the fat around the stomach disappears you tend to need another fill. That is quite common. Even if you drop 6 lbs the band knows it.
-
well, after two years I finally got a fill
juliegeraci replied to tmarie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Marie, good luck to you. Your fill should help a lot. -
Wow, you are doing fantastic. Way to go!
-
Your stomach is growling even if you aren't hungry. Strange I know.

Eggs and tortillas (flour). I throw them up everytime I push it.

YOu can have artificial sweetner without a problem. The problem you may have is your poor eating habits. Junk food can go down the lapband easily. Eat your protein first then your vegies. Most likely you will not be able to consume much bread. Initially you will probably eat 1 cup of food. Then when you start getting fills that will go down. I can only eat 1/4 cup of food now at 5 fills. Good luck with your decision.

You doctor did the right thing. YOu should be fine. I was told by my surgeon when that happened to me that sometimes the stomach lining will thicken giving you more restriction. The only thing you can do is get an unfill to help you. Give it time. That is all you need. Start with a small fill next time as well.

Is it possible to not be overweight?
juliegeraci replied to sbee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sbee, she is incorrect. There are hundreds of stories out there of people who have met their goal weights. You can do it. It may take you some time, but all in all the lapband works. Keep the faith and don't listen to her! -
No, get back on the bandsters rules. Eat lean protein first. Even if you can eat 1 cup of food eat your protein then your vegies first. I always start my day with a protein shake as well. One thing for sure, if you are really hungry you need a fill. My doctor does fills at 6 weeks. Good luck.

How much weight did you lose before your first fill?
juliegeraci replied to lawanda jessica's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I gained 7 lbs! -
Newbie (here anyway..)
juliegeraci replied to Full_of_Scrap's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi. I have only been banded 14 months so I'm not that old of a bandster. Restriction is what helps me. I can only eat 1/4 cup of food at a time. You have done great. Keep up the good work. -
Hit the wall- 40 more lbs to go
juliegeraci replied to juliegeraci's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks for the insight. I am motivated and after my vacation next week I am recommitting myself. Thanks again. -
I have been at this weight for about 2 months. My problem is liquid calories. I drink too much alcohol. I don't need a fill. I am going on vacation in 2 weeks and I go for a slight unfill next week. Once I return, I immediately am going to go back in to get me to 3.0 ccs again. How do you recommit yourself when you are close to goal? My goal is to only have a couple drinks a week after vacation. What are your thoughts?

Support losing those LAST PESKY POUNDS BEFORE GOAL...
juliegeraci replied to Paulax's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Paula, just get back on the bandwagon and the weight will come off. LIquid calories are dangerous. I know because I too drink too many of them! Good luck. -
If you are only 1 month out and have lost 9 lbs then you are an average loser. Don't expect more than 1-2 lbs per week. YOu may set yourself up for failure. Good luck.

Still sick at stomach. What is going on???
juliegeraci replied to claramae's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, I had nauseau from time to time after surgery. Call your surgeon and ask him for an anti nausea medication. It really helped me. -
