  1. Typically the surgeon does a fill if a. you are not losing, b. you are eating too much or c. you are hungry more often. 1/2 cup is about right with good restriction. If you are eating up to 1 cup and losing you are very fortunate. I would monitor your weight loss and hunger moving forward. Good luck.
  2. Hi Clifton, the liquids should help. Sometimes the stomach lining can thicken and tighten the band. That is how my doctor described it to me. I would have a slight unfill. You should be better soon. Good luck.

Do I need a defill before an op?

I had plastic surgery too and he removed about .3 from my band. He did not empty it though.

    Microdermabrasion v Chemical peels

I had several rounds of microdermabrasion for my sun damage. The only thing that helped was laser treatment. The do do microdermabrasion with a chemical peel at the same time. She may want to try that.

    Help!!! I have failed!!!

Don't be so hard on yourself. Go in for your fill and fess up. If you have a good surgeon they should understand. Obesity is a disease, plain and simple. The band can help you when you get good restriction. Try and stick to 1 cup of food until your fill. High protein, vegies then carbs. Don't consume too many liquids like ice cream. Good luck to you. This is a journey not a destination.

    Disappointment!!

I know it is hard to be patient by try not to think too much about it. Congrats on your upcoming surgery.
  9. I am so sorry for your loss. I had a 1 year old pug we lost about 3 weeks ago due to eating corn. She had vomitted it all up but was very dehydrated when she was admitted to the hospital. She died in surgery when she vomitted and it went into her lungs which I hear is common for even humans. We had her cremated and will put her in our backyard soon. I understand the crying and the emotional connection you have with a pet. Our other pug is doing well. She is about 1.5 years old. She sleeps with us now and is very well adjusted. She does look for her playmate especially if you mistakenly call out the other dogs name. We are going to replace Candy when we can come up with the money. Its not the same without her. She was a small dog like yours, weighing about 20 lbs. She was very timid but extremely loving. I hope your devestation is short lived. You are in my thoughts.
  10. Kizzie, I am really glad you were taken care of. Best of luck on your journey.
  11. When you get too much restriction it is easy to PB or vomit. This cycle can continue and continue and is easy to do when you eat fast or are too full. I would think that would be my concern. If you don't have a handle of your bulimia it is easy to continue this cycle. Very easy.

Why do I feel like this all the time?

Have you had a barrium swallow or endoscopy yet? I would definitely make sure your band is okay too.
  13. You are welcome. Congrats again on making this life changing decision.

General questions or concerns 6 months out

Holly, bands can be fickle. Sometimes fills are okay then bam they get too tight. I would have .2 or .3 removed. You should be okay after that. Good luck.
  15. Food is not the same now. I eat to live. I do miss some foods like Subway and lots of sushi.

Tell me the problems are worth it

Hi Bandofhope. I love my band but I have a very fickle band. I have been banded 2 years June 6th. I have had at least 20 fills and unfills over the course of the last 25 months. I get a sweet spot then lose it easily. I tighten without warning then I PB too much. So the maintainence can be really difficult. That being said, I am 20 lbs from goal so that is a good thing. The band works, you just need to work with it. Good luck.

Kareyquilts, Mimin, Ghost & BJean The Final Push

Thanks JJSmiles. I am going to order a barrium swallow to see if my band is in the right position when I see him next Thursday. I just don't see how you can go down literally 2 drops of saline and starve to death! Fickle band!

    post op nausea

Call your surgeon. He can order you some anti nausea medication. It helped me tremendously in my first 6 weeks.

    Surgery on 7/3 for Slip

I will be thinking of you. I have been having problems with restriction too so I'll let you know what my doctor says next Thursday. He did mention a barrium swallow before. I just can't get full and I'm starving. Let me know how you do okay dear. Julie

    Surgery on 7/3 for Slip

Hi Starrgirl, your post almost made me cry. I have been having trouble with my band too. I really hope he can save your band. If you are debanded is there a chance to reband later or never? I am sending my prayers your way. I totally understand what you are feeling when the chance is there to lose your band. I am starving so we'll see when we do the barrium swallow what is up with my band. I hope your band is saved. Please let us know how tomorrow goes. Julie

    lap band anxieties

The surgery itself was a breeze for me. The follow up care has been difficult. I have a very fickle band and have probably 20 fills and unfills over the course of 2 years. I get too tight, PB. I get to loose, no restriction and starving. Hopefully you will not have a band like mine. Thankfully my insurance covers fills otherwise it could be very costly.

If a doc was in the "ghetto".....

Taking scandulous, race, poverty, etc. aside if you don't feel safe I wouldn't go back. Follow up care can be a lot and frequent visits. Good luck finding a new surgeon.

Tell me how you really f'in feel

I would talk it through with her. It sounds like you are really close and can work through this. I am glad you loved yourself at any weight. It makes a world of difference when you get close to goal like I am. Good luck with your continued success.

    When the lights go out

You are doing great. I totally understand where you are coming from. My family thought I could do it on Weight Watchers without the right restriction. Talk about starving! Good luck with the rest of your weight loss. You can do it!
  25. Fills can be very fickle. I am down .02 with my unfill and I'm starving. .02 or .03 can make a difference.
