I think I am failing at this!!!!
luckyjyn replied to flagirlintx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same issue last month. I was banded Dec 08' hit a plateau and then it was downhill from there. The one thing that I had to remind myself is that this is journey and a learning process. I have come up with several mottos at different stages of this whole process. The first one was during pre-surgery diet and the 6wk period after surgery.............."A hunger pain has never killed anyone." The second one came along with daily, hourly, or minute to minute battles with my cravings or food desires..........."This is why they say weight loss is hard." or " This is why it's called a weightloss battle." Then I decide in that very moment if I want to win this battle. Sounds corny but it helps. The third one I came up with the other night when my husband fixed a huge pan of cornbread (southern dish with lots of bacon grease), everyone else had eaten and they left half of it on the stove and it was staring really hard at me! Well, as I threw it in the trash I thought........"Better in the trash than on my thighs!!!!" If something is that tempting to me I throw it in the trash..........dont get me wrong I might take 1 bite or 2 first, but that's not a big deal to me. Anyway..........I have started losing again and have regained my confidence.......You can do it girl, dont ever give up on yourself!!! -
Hi everyone. I was just wondering how many grams of Carb do you limit in your diet daily? I am doing high protein and low calorie and that seems to work well, but just curious about the carbs. Thank you!

Feeling very disgusted with myself
luckyjyn replied to weaver1461's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dont be so hard on yourself, it has taken years to form the habits and thoughts that occupy your mind and will take a while break those old habits and patterns of thought. Take pride in the fact that you took the first giant step by getting the lapband in the first place. I have weeks where I dont do great and feel that I have over done it. The great thing is if I realize that I am not doing as good as I should then I can claim ownership of my actions and try to do better. You dont have to be perfect, just do the best you can and feel good about it! You and the life that you want are worth it! -
Ok where is everyone? We have just sort of fell off posting here! Don good to see that you are doing so good. The crazy thing that I have noticed are the days that I think I havent done that great on, I actually lose and then on the days where I have really watched NADA!!! Just crazy. I think I need to get back to keeping a food journal so I can really keep up with what I am actually eating. OK everyone - hope you all have a good day! OH, I Love the fact there are so many Mississipians working on this obesity epidemic! YAYYY US!! Louisiana actually passed us up in 08'!!!! Bad for them, but I'm sure we are #1 at something else!

You are so right Don!

Hi Joly I was banded on 12/18 and like you I'm excited about the new year and summer................first time in a long time! Congrats on your 23lbs!!! I'm stuck at or about 21lbs............hopefully my first fill will help with some of that. Anyway - good to see you here!!

I am doing very good. I am like you, I have a 14 month old at home, but thank goodness her older brothers were out of school and were able to help me with her. I was banded Dec 18th and for some reason that seems like it was ages ago!!! I lost weight so good for the first couple of weeks, but since starting mushies I've stalled at 20lbs. When do you get your first fill?
-
Hang in there Don - this is a new way of life for all of us and we have to learn new habits. We will all cave at times, but then have to get up, dust ourselves off and get back with the program. Also I heard that it takes a few fills before you get to optimal restriction, so dont be so hard on yourself!

Hi everyone! Just joined the group today. I hope everyone is recovering well with very little pain. I was banded 12/18 so I'm still on liquids............not hungry yet, but I heard that happens around day 10. OK gotta get moving...........need to "walk it out" and many of you know just what I'm talking about - lol!!!
-
Congrats Pete!! Your doin great!
-
Joann, I know exactly what you mean. I was just thinking - what if I do this in front of someone? Then I thought - Oh well, it's so necessary at this point in time.

Thanks for such a warm welcome everyone - I am excited for all of us! Julie - I looked all over Wal-Mart for the Carnation Instant - is it on the cereal isle?

Hey Smiles, just wanted to let you know that Egg Beaters is a great egg substitute without the calories and fat. I'm 11 days post op and my doc said I could have this. I bought the original kind and it tastes almost exactly the same.
-
The Vanilla Myoplex is pretty good. But the best tasting is the Boost High Protein in Chocolate. The only prob. is that it only has 15grams protein per 8 oz and has more sugar than what my surgeon recommends, but I've still been able to losee 19lbs drinking a couple of these a day. Plus they are sooooo good!

Hi, I also have BCBS of CA and they do cover lapband. You need to find the bariatric surgeon that you plan to use and go to a seminar - usually the insurance coordinator at the surgeons office will apply for your approval and walk you thru each step that BCBS requires of you. Good Luck!
-
Hi, I like the EAS Myoplex protein drinks from Wal-Mart. They have 42g protein per 17 oz. Just 2 of these a day and you have your 80g recommended protein.

Help! I'm sooo hungry!
luckyjyn replied to shelley2b's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I was banded 12/18 and I'm also on the liquids. I only had to do clear liquids the day of and day after surgery and then could drink protein drinks. I havent hardly had any hunger, as a matter of fact I feel pretty much stuffed , but I also had a hiatal hernia repair and have felt very tight and lots of pressure. I hear that the true hunger starts around day 10. Also, I'm drinking protein drinks constantly with hardly anything else. Try Myoplex Original - 42g of protein per drink............my surgeon recommends 80 grams of protein a day - so two of these will do the trick and sip slowly! Hope this helps! -
Hi happy holidays to all! I was banded on Dec 18th (along with a hiatal hernia repair). I'm just now learning how to "coexist" with my band. I've had to relearn how to belch - lol. I never thought I would say that!!!! Anyway - glad to start this journey with all of you! Here's to 2009 and all the wonderful changes it will bring for us!!!

Hi Don - CONGRATULATIONS!! Sounds like you are doing very good. I'm still at the freshly banded stage (4 days post-op) so I'm still on nothing but fluids. It sounds like you are aware of real hunger vs head hunger so you should do fine. I must say I woke up today without that softball stuck between my ribs feeling - THANK GOD:thumbup:! Now if I could just get rid of the shoulder pain I'd feel like a new woman! Thanks for such a warm welcome! Hi, I saw your pics and realized you were banded the day after me. I hope your doing well. I'm 3 days post-op and still feeling quite a bit of discomfort, but am finally able to get out of bed and off the couch without help - now that's progress!!! Let me know how you are! jayne

Hey YA'LL!!! I was banded 12/18/08, so I'm a newbie. Still having tons of discomfort, but I know "this too shall pass." Glad to see so many Mississippians here! Banded 12/18/08 Dr. Avara Ocean Springs, MS

Hi, I'm new here, but have actually been to this website many times before I finally had my surgery on 12/18. Everything is good but I must admit I'm having more pain/discomfort than I thought I'd have. The doc told me that he had to repair a hiatal hernia in addition to doing the lapband. This was totally unexpected and I'm wondering if this could be the cause of all the discomfort. I'm having difficulty belching and feel as if I have a softball located between my ribs - and the shoulder pain is terrible. I feel like I have to belch, and then can't and a pain will shoot thru my left shoulder. Can anyone relate to this? ON a positive note.............I've lost 3lbs since surgery!!! Pre-surgery 262 Surgery day - 252 Present - 249

3 days post-op - lots of discomfort
luckyjyn replied to luckyjyn's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Mackmom congrats to you also - it sounds exactly like you have experienced the same thing. In fact at one point I wondered if the chest discomfort was my heart. Thank goodness it's not! I had read so many posts where the people said they didnt take anything for the pain, so I guess I assumed that was the norm. Thanks for your reply, helps me see the light at the end of this freshly post-op tunnel. Redmom - Lucky you!! Your experience is totally what I expected mine to be. I will start the walking (I mean more than from the livingroom to the bedroom) tomorrow. Thanks!! -
