I just got my surgery one week ago exactly. Like you I am 27 years old, I have been heavy all my life, I was always an athlete doing lots of sports and lots of working out, but it didn't seem to get all my weight off. Once you grow up, its hard to find the time to help keep some of the weight off so I blew up to 240 lbs. I think its the best thing I have ever done for myself. I am getting married in a year and plan to have kids in about two years and I had all the fears of getting sick such as diabetes. One week later I am down 10 pounds and an overall of 17 pounds since I started the pre-op diet. I felt the pain from the incisions and the gas but really one week later I felt good enough to go to work, it is very important to get your rest and to prepare your food ahead of time for the day so that you don't follow through with your diet. I am seeing a nutritionist and a psychologist to help me through my journey and to make it easier so I don't feel like I am on my own. I planned for about 4 months before I had surgery to make sure I had all the necessary things I needed in place to make this a successful journey and so far so good!! Good luck and if you are ready to make a change, this is definately a good one.
