Maraki reacted to rosemary79 in Major Lap-Band Failure - 8 Years Later - 2-Part Revision Upcoming - Need Support
Getting my lap-band revised to RNY was one of the best decisions that I have ever made! There have been ups and downs since my surgery in May but it has all been worth it. I have lost more weight in these last 3 months than I ever did with the band. I am just 3 lbs away from this fabled place I hear of called "one-derland", I can't wait to see 199 on that scale!!
I wish you luck on your new journey, you truly deserve some things to go your way after such a long struggle.

I was having trouble with B-Complex for awhile (i.e., nausea), but they discovered I had a stricture and I haven't had any problems since they "fixed" the stricture - so obviously it was related to that. Some people do have problems with the "B"s in particular, though. I always take that one with food just in case.

I won't lie, it's been hard on my marriage, now all of a sudden I get attention I never got before. I don't pay it a lot of attention because I'm not used to it (hubby is not overweight), he has become very jealous. My head still sees the old me, sometimes I make stupid choices that make me feel guilty, but I jump right back on my course & things have gone well.
I started my journey at 280lbs, a lot of health problems and extremely unhappy. Today I am 180, 9 months out, year anniversary is Sept 15th, the day I considered the first day of the rest of my life!!! It has been!!
I've battled anemia since, but was predisposed to it to begin with so it wasn't a shock. I take additional supplements and have had a few infusions- should be ironwoman by now! ????
I love getting to wear 'normal' clothing 'again' although I've never been this small. The only bad thing is having to buy new clothing every time I turn around but, it's a good problem!!!
I hope you're all staying positive and having wonderful progress!!! I'm here to chat if you want to!!! ????
My pictures are exactly 2 years apart and the before makes me cringe!

One of the requirements for surgery is to give up caffeine and carbonated beverages. So you might begin that ahead of time. I had a 6 Coke a day habit and I went cold turkey. I suffered a week of withdrawal (severe headaches). So you might get the withdrawal out of the way so it doesn't compound the effects of the surgery.
Also try and get 30 minutes of walking in every day. It will go a long way on the recovery process.

I added coffee back after about 3 months. The surgery team's guidance was to wait until I could routinely get in 100 oz of Water in a day. Also, they advise me to *subtract* the number of oz of coffee I drank from my total liquid intake for the day, to counteract the dehydration risk. So if I have 16 oz of coffee, I track that as -16oz of Water. I have no idea how valid this is, but it makes me limit my total caffeine intake and I've had no issues for the past 4 months.

Is it from where the port was? I am still very tender right there. If someone pokes me there when playing around, it hurts.

Go to the drug store and buy a pill crusher and a pill splitter. You inability to swallow should only last a couple months after surgery and then you should be back to normal.

I am almost 11 months out and used chewables up until recently. May sure they are not gummies, as those supposedly are not absorbed now.

chewables for sure! I'm a year and a half out and still prefer chewables! It takes the edge off in the morning when I am starting to feel hungry. Takes the hunger away! lol

I swirled to Decaf. I also bought a Protein mix that was Cappuccino flavor. I make a morning shake with it and add hazelnut sugarfree Syrup and some decaf instant coffee. I don't crave coffee since surgery...and I was pretty addicted t o my morning cup! Good luck with everything!

Right after surgery I did give up coffee completely and was very happy. i was surprised how easy it was. However, I'm back on it. Part of me wishes I wasn't but I do love my coffee! I only have a cup a day, in the morning but I am considering giving it up again. If I could find a tasty Decaf, I would do that but I haven't found one yet. I drink my coffee black so adding flavors in didn't work for me but I can imagine for others, this would be a good option.

I don't notice the difference in Decaf but friends of mine converted slowly by cutting their regular grind with part decaf (same brand) and increasing decaf ratio every few pots until full decaf.

Only that I really feel that it does nothing for me except for taste, I can't tell a difference between the tastes, but I really miss the pick me up it used to have, I stay away from caffeinated stuff cause I'm an addict and was addicted to coffee and energy drinks, so if grab one its not gonna be good

I cannot speak to the sleeve and you have to remember that everyone is different. I had bypass at the end of September 2014. I have lost 114 in ten months and have 31 left that I would like to lose.
I have had 2 major stalls the longest lasting 28 days. There is always a reason if the stall happens. For me, I have had more carbs than I should while being restricted from exercise due to a spine surgery. I am in control of how quickly I lose and have been ecstatic with my progress so far and so is my bariatric doctor.
I believe you can lose just as much weight with the sleeve, just look at all of the success stories on this site but again it is up to you and how you adapt to your new way of living. If you can make the changes necessary, anything is possible.
I wish you the best of luck with whatever you decide!

I am having a band to bypass revision tomorrow. I chose bypass over sleeve because it is a non restrictive procedure and I had serious issues with reflux due to the band. Because of that my doc recommended bypass rather than the sleeve.

I'm 54, had my surgery on Valentine's Day, and I'm down 71 lbs. I think a lot has to do with how much you have to lose, and how active you are. After 4 1/2 months of steady loss, I've hit my first plateau, and it has nothing to do with my age, in my opinion. It's because I'm not as busy at work since the spring rush has ended, and I'm starting to eat more. I'm still eating healthy foods, but I've added in a few Snacks. That has to end if I hope to reach goal!

I am 57. I had a lap band placed at 49, and now waiting for insurance approval for revision to rny. Wish I had done the rny to begin with and I would have enjoyed these last seven years a whole lot more,
