Something similar is people who say that money wouldn't change them. Yea, right, money changes people. More or less and you will act different.

I understand and agree with your basic concept. But, you have a huge flaw in there. You are making some kind of assumption that you won't change when you are no longer fat. That for most people just simply isn't true. You will most likely change and it won't necessarily be for the better in the opinion of people who knew you before. In fact, you will probably lose several relationships from the change and gain several new ones.

At your weight I think you should seriously reconsider. Reconsider the band. I personally, would hate to have that much to lose and using the band. But you know the options I assume and the downsides and positives of each, I assume?

3 weeks out and eating everything in site
Jaffa replied to hungrygirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I questioned it from the first post. I just don't see it as being possible? But, maybe if they had a surgeon with a really really large bougie, but even then I doubt it very much. Probably someone just messing with ya. -
Anyone else have trouble with eggs on mushies?
Jaffa replied to TennJenn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My wife can't eat eggs, but egg beaters work just fine. They are better for you anyway. -

Ok, I think I'm the only MAN here. So this is my own little room. Now I'm going to shut the door, I need some alone time.

Ok, this may seem strange, but I have always been told in the past that you aren't really hydrated properly, unless your pee is clear. Now, before banding that was fairly easy to maintain. But, since being banded, I have found that I have drink 80-100 ounces a day just to get my pee clear. I know they say you should drink 64 ounces a day, but for me, I think this would be way low. I wonder if this is true for others. Heck, I wonder if the pee clear theory is even true?

The sleeve is by far superior to the band. The band, is temporary and for people who can't get the sleeve for some reason. Or for some reason just won't do anything else. I'm not allowed to get a sleeve by my profession yet, but soon they will approve them and I will revise at that time. I know better then to think I will somehow beat the odds and never need a revision.

My daughter also has PCOS. It is very likely to cause weight gain and is a common factor. Also, forcing her weight back down via WLS will help with the PCOS. My wife went to Dr. Aceves. She is getting ready for her regular food. It is EXTREMELY important with a sleeve to stick to the post op diet. With a band it could cause problems down the road to not follow the post op diet, with the sleeve you can create horrible immediate complications or even death. Just be sure she understands the post op diet is NOT optional in any way shape or form, and it will be mentally difficult.

I would suggest at 380 a careful examination of her health may be necessary. Absolutely, positively, in my mind, she should not get a band because of her age. It wouldn't be reasonable to think it would last the rest of her life, and frankly it takes too much life alteration for someone at that age. She should look for someone doing a small sleeve, so that maybe she won't need the DS down the road. If you can afford it, you have waited too long, get it done NOW. I to wish I had 20 years of my life back without being a slave to food.

I tend to lay around, eat too much, drink too much, and am generally a pain in the ass. Oh wait, that was before my band. Now I'm just a pain in the ass.

You never know how many men have passed you by just because they know you are in a relationship. There were many women that I may have been interested in, if they weren't already dating that I never asked out, just because they were dating someone. I just flat out wouldn't even consider it.

I once spent 5 years without a signal date. It was lonely. And it is exactly what I needed to finally have a good and healthy relationship. Don't get me wrong, you don't need to spend 5 years alone to achieve the same thing, but you need to be alone until you love yourself and someone elses screwed up behavior doesn't bring you down.

I eat about 3/4 to 1 cup of food. I pretty much always eat yogurt for breakfast with one scoop of protein added. Lunch could be just about anything, but it won't be much, maybe 3/4 cup of food. Dinner is usually more loose and I eat a cup of food or even more. But, I eat very slow....it takes a half an hour, because I'm eating such small bites and chewing well. I watch for any signal that I'm not hungry and stop. If you go past this point it will start to hurt. Not a full feeling, that will never really happen again....but not hungry. This is life with a band. Anything else someone says is misleading or wrong. You just have to accept that the full feeling is gone forever. If I can eat too much or too fast and not have to chew my food well enough, I know I need a fill. In the beginning when I was losing a lot, it was like clock work, every three weeks I needed a fill, but now I'm losing slower and closer to goal I don't need a fill.

Well, I'm at the 6 month point. I have really achieved the sweet spot for me. I got really busy at work, and pretty much quit working out, but I'm still able to lose 1lb every 10 days. I'm now down to 184. I decided to revise my final goal. I'm actually, pretty happy with the 66lbs lost, and I think if I just lose another 14lbs, I will just try to maintain that point. That would put me just above the normal weight range, and at the same time, allow me to keep my band a little bit on the loose side. I want to keep this thing as long as possible, and I believe most people get into trouble with too much restriction, so I'm trying to avoid that. Everything else is going great, and I actually skipped a fill this month, because my restriction didn't change all that much and I did lose the right amount for what I was doing.

? for Dr. Aceves' patients
Jaffa replied to Aryssia's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I understand. I had the band. I still worry about expenses of revision. I know I will most likely need a revision one day and it will cost me money. It is just what we have to live with in the end. Post op expense for problems is a genuine concern....go to someone who has proven to have rare problems with this, is about as good as you can do. Now if you have a problem and it is life threatening most insurance companies don't really have a choice but to pay for it. Think of it this way. If you were jogging and you slipped and fell and broke your leg, do you think the insurance company could say they aren't paying because you caused it yourself while jogging? Not really. Insurance companies have to pay for people who smoke all of the time. Doesn't mean they paid for your smokes, but they still have to pay for medical necessary things. -
How are you doing? Just thought we would check in with you. Kathy was wondering how you were doing?

Does the new guy know anything about the old guy? When I was looking for someone to date I had the following criteria. They could not be in any phase of a current relationship with anyone else. They had to be someone who didn't need me for financial reasons. They had to be looking for someone to have fun and date, but not really looking to get married. I found someone and married them with these rules.

? for Dr. Aceves' patients

We took a fan, only because we always travel with a fan. My wife and I both like the cheap noisy kind so we don't wake up to any small noises. We are so inslaved to the fan, we have a special bag and fan just for travel. We DIDN'T need it for cooling, at all. -
I think in answer to your question about why so much positive information versus negative information about the band? Well, I am very happy with my band. But, I think most people are in the beginning. I'm 6 months out....and doing great. But, frankly, so are most people at my point. I think it is much more intrusive in your daily life then you might think, and people are just willing to live with it, because it is worth it to lose the weight. People like to post when things are going great, they don't like to post as much when things aren't so great. It seems to me that most people start to develop trouble at about the 3 year point. Of course some have trouble from the very beginning and others have trouble later. The sleeve definitely tends to be less trouble long term. Where the band tends to be less trouble short term. So, people post and talk in the short term, but long term they become less interested (obsessed) with it and don't care to post. I can see why people want a band, because most people like to think that the troubles are rare. Well, if you quit tracking the statistics at about the time your product tends to go up in problems, then yes it looks better. What I don't buy in to, and you shouldn't either are the marketing gimics with the band. Adjustable Reversible Less invasive These aren't truly advantages except in very rare cases. Adjustable. Well, yes, it is adjustable, but in reality your trying to adjust it to get to the sweet spot....many times difficult for people. The only other time adjustable is used is to empty it, when you have something go wrong with it. Well, that is a nice spin. Your band has slipped, well thank god we can empty it and see if it goes back in place....put into context it doesn't really seem like a positive does it? Reversible. Well yes, technically it can be removed, but why would you want to remove it, unless it was causing a problem? So again a problem is being spun to a positive. Less invasive. Well yes, it is in the sugery portion. But, from that point on it isn't really any less invasive, and some people would argue it is actually more invasive. You absolutely, have to think every time you eat, to make sure you don't get stuck, and even then sometimes you will get stuck. Also, your stomach is being smashed and the scar tissue is ongoing and developing.

Frankly, is your GP, referring you to someone for the lapband? They make money on referrels you know.

Should sipping be getting easier?

Take small sips...no more the 2 oz in 15 minute intervals, and for my wife warm water was much easier then cold. -
Should sipping be getting easier?
Jaffa replied to TennJenn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My wife had the same experience. I believe it is just a good sign that the swelling is going down and leaving more room to make it easier. She progressed to cream Soups and it was hard at first and is getting better as we near the 10 day point for cream soups. I suspect each transition is always going to be a little difficult at first, until your new stomach gets used to things.
