I had GERD a couple of years ago. It is basically an inflamation of the bottom of your esophagus, which causes the same exact thing. So even before banding, I know what PB is, and drinking anything usually just makes it much much worse, before it all comes back up.

I had my surgery yesterday. I stayed overnight since we live 3 hours away from the sugery center. Now I'm on a liquid diet for 3 days, then thick liquids for two weeks, then two weeks of mushies. My follow up visit is local and is next week. First fill I believe isn't until week 4. I'm doing great....so far my pain is really just a little discomfort and soarness....about a 1 or 2 out of 10. I was worried it would be way worse then this, but it really isn't bad at all. It is a great relief. I'm taking pain medicine only at night to help with sleeping, but I'm just fine in the day. I had chicken broth with unjury chicken soup added in for protein today. I'm not hungry at all....but I know I need to get liquid and protein in for healing. I found out my original surgeon had cornea transplants.....good god, how bad were his eyes? The replacement surgeon was awesome, he had about 20 years of doing these types of surgeries.

Disneyworld Review....One more day to Bandland Sugery
Jaffa commented on Jaffa's blog entry in Blog 53550
Well, I just can't believe anyone would really want to make Disneyworld a vacation. I went to all 4 in two days, and found it to be mostly boring. Each park basically has two decent rides, the rest is just a tourist trap. I feel sorry for anyone who makes that place a vacation. I would rate it about a 1.4 out of 10. A big word of warning also about the Century Pop Hotel. It is clean and nice, but it is also very very old. It has paper thin walls and you can literally hear people walking outside of your room. I had to go to Wally world and buy a fan just to drown out all of the noises. In the end, I wouldn't go back unless you paid me, and paid me well. But it would be fun for an 8-12 year old. On a positive note, I did walk about 5 hours a day....good excercise!!! I'm now on the clear liquid diet for my surgery tomorrow. It is noon and I'm not all that hungry yet, so I'm guessing in another 4 hours I will be starving. I have to get up at 330 in the morning and drive 3.5 hours to kansas City for my surgery. Should be lovely this time of the year....8 degrees light snow and dark until the last thirty minutes. I'll post again after surgery....well unless they kill me. -

Five days to go and I will be in surgery. I'm still doing good on my preop diet. Lost a couple of more pounds. Its hard sometimes when I don't have time for 6 hours to really eat. I get too hungry and then overeat. I eat the right things, just too much. I'm going to be spending 3 of the 5 days at Disneyworld. My plan is to just do a lot of walking and riding the rides to keep my mind off of food. My fear is the park will have food in it that I want. But I will be ok, I'll just eat protein only.

Sounds like she is taking Phentermine to me. Classic signs. Regardless, I think instead of getting mad, you should feel sorry for her. All of us know the cycle and she is most likely on it, without knowing it. How dissappointed is she going to be when the weight comes back and yours doesn't. She probably didn't have the surgery because she didn't have the money and the insurance company wouldn't pay for it, not because she is some super human with sudden super powers of will.

I am Chowin' Down, and Getting Fat! Need Help and Advice.
Jaffa replied to amylovescookies's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm a little confused....do you usually drink with a meal? The 1/4 cup of milk with the cheerios seems to be the same thing as drinking??? But maybe you know that and are just admitting to not following this rule also? I'm not sure but it sounds like a simple matter, get a fill, and read your band rules to reninforce what you probably already know. -
Its easy really. Just go in and bend your knees just a little, when they are measuring your height. Ok, now your one inch shorter, and your bmi is more. If anyone notices that they measured you and you shrunk a little, just tell them that you had always been measured in the past with your shoes on. Or just add 10lbs of quarters in all the right places....tape them flat so they don't jingle....LOL

Lap band versus Realize??? Well it can be debated all sorts of ways, but for me it came down to just a few differences and personal choice. The realize band has a thinner port, making it easier to place in theory, although I don't think they are hard to place anyway. The realize is one continuous tube where the lap band has sections. I went with the Lap Band becuase I liked the way the port was attached surgically, versus the weird little system the realize uses for attaching the port. When you talk to them, have them discuss the differences in the two, but that is really the difference.....which is better??? I don't think one is really better then the other so much as they are just a little different. I have no expertise in this, but the lapband just seemed to look a little more durable and maybe a little less likely to move or slip, because it is slightly wider, but that could be all perception.

I am being banded at WLSC on the 14th. I know several people who have been banded there. Do you have any specific questions?

I'm having my surgery at the WLSC in Kansas City on the 14th. They called me today to tell me that the original Dr. (Dr. Nigro) had a problem and wouldn't be able to do any surgery for about 4-6 weeks. So they wanted me to go with another Dr. I guess it doesn't bother me too much, but it does make me wonder, what is really going on? They said he had an accident??? I don't really want to start my preop diet again, and I don't really want to wait that long, so I'm planning on going ahead with the other surgeon. I wish I could remember the name of the surgeon.

Well, I just thought I would post about my recent order from GNC.COM I bought 3 cases of the Isopure Grape Frost. I decided to get it from GNC online, because it was the cheapest way I could find to buy it. I bought the gold membership because it saved me more then it cost me even on the first order. Also, since my order was over 100 dollars the shipping was free. The idea was to get it without the hassle of carrying a case from the center of the mall all the way to my car. And it is cheaper then buying it from the store when you take advantage of the free shipping. The only down side, was that for some reason one case had frozen in shipping and was all busted up. The good news is GNC had no problem crediting me for the bad case, so another case is on the way.

Why are NEGATIVE comments easier for some people to make?
Jaffa commented on julie.ann's blog entry in My Secret Journey
I think my family likes to say something when I gain weight because they think it shows their concern for my health. The don't say anything when I lose because then there isn't as much concern. I know it isn't right, but my father doesn't even usually say anything, he just looks me up and down....I know what he is thinking. My boss does the same thing. It is down right humiliating. -
Well, as is usually the case for me the diet is pretty easy. My low carb diet is going well and I'm down to 239. I have never really had trouble with diets, just trouble keeping it off afterwards.
-
I have some tretonein right now, to get me by until the new symbiote (lapband is installed)....LOL I'm 10 days away!!!!

Actually, I noted Oprah's weight gain early on. In fact as she put the weight on, I realized that with all the help she had, she still put the weight back on. It helped me realize that I needed the WLS. Thanks Oprah!!!! 12 days away from a real life change. My only fear is that she really secretly did have LB surgery and gained it back. In other words, I only care if it is something I have to worry about after my band. She is a money making machine, I admire that.

Terrified of my PreOp Diet
Jaffa replied to TaraBell's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started today. Low carb diet basically. Also low fat. My plan is to use mostly slimfast low carb drink. Maybe some egg whites when I'm really hungry and small quantities of lean meats. I have surgery on the 14th. I did manage to lose 3lbs in the last 10 days, even though I wasn't required to be on the diet yet and it was the holiday.. -
I figured out since I'm self pay and it is costing me 17500, I will be saving about 2500 dollars on my taxes. That will really help!!!! I am also hoping to save money because I won't be eating out so much. I was spending about 50 dollars a week just eating out. I also spend about 100 dollars a week on groceries. I'm hoping to cut my total food bill down to 75 dollars a week. But that may be tuff?
-
Well it was a hard time to start a diet over the holidays. But I did manage to lose 3lbs. Now I am going strictly on low carb for the next 16 days before my surgery. My plan is to use the low carb slim fast and some fresh low fat meat choices. I also have some Isopure Grape Frost drink.

I am also doing one for exercise goals.
