Oh great, now I'm getting tighter right before my fill
Jaffa commented on Jaffa's blog entry in Blog 53550
Well, I was very very loose. Heck I took 1cc just to get back the restriction I had after the last fill. Hopefully, in the next couple of weeks it will continue to work. I won't be going back for 4 weeks after this one, so here is hoping for a good 4 weeks. If everything goes well, I should lose 10lbs this month. -
Oh great, now I'm getting tighter right before my fill
Jaffa commented on Jaffa's blog entry in Blog 53550
Well last night was the first night in two weeks I felt any restriction while eating dinner. Unfortunately today is my second fill. I hope this up and down nature of restriction is too much to deal with long term. I also think that a lot of my weight gain was from eating soup at the hotel restaurant last week. I think this because in the two days since I got back I dropped 3lbs? That has to be water weight, so I'm thinking the soup had a lot of MSG in it or something? I say all of this because it could be that the MSG also was making me retain water and making my restriction less? It could all be related? I am predicting a .5cc fill today? I know I am still not at as good of a point as I was a week after my surgery, so I know I'm really not to the sweet spot right now. -
Has anyone taken phen/fen who has also been banded?
Jaffa replied to annecolorgreen's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I know this isn't really where this thread was going, but I have wondered the following: If lapband slips are caused by several things and one of the biggest reasons is patients not staying on the post op diet, then why wouldn't they prescribe phentermine to people for the first month to ensure a better compliance rate? I will say that I don't really like the fact that doctors are saying what causes the slips and they just happen to blame the patients at about 3 times the rate of blaming themselves. So maybe slips aren't really caused that often by patients and they really know this? Of course the other biggest reason for slips is reported as excessive vomiting, but even then they blame the patient for not telling them. Well maybe they should be prescribing anti-vomitting medicine ahead of time, to emphasize how important not vomitting really can be? Sorry for the hi-jack, but this thread makes me think of these things. -
Banded in July 08 and have only lost 10 pounds!! HELP!
Jaffa replied to Dee66's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think if you try to emphasize getting a certain amount of protein, say 60-80grams a day, and only having 1200-1500 calories, you will find that you can really only eat the right things. -

How is the exercise going? It sounds like your body went into starvation mode. How many calories are you eating a day? Less isn't always better? Don't eat ice cream!!!!! Man is it full of calories!!! And not the good kind. -
My feet are freezing!!!!

How much does it cost in Cash?
Jaffa replied to heyheyitsME's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was 17500 and included aftercare and fills. I think you need to check the cost of going elsewhere....for the cheap surgery and then pay for your aftercare. Or the cost of going for surgery locally and having aftercare included. Both decisions are valid, depending on what you find out and what you are comfortable with. I had my choices down to a local place or going to Mexico and having fills done after getting back. I chose local because the closest fill location that took patients who they hadn't banded was 4 hours away. With my work schedule and the cost difference it just wasn't worth the savings to go to mexico. -
Help don't want (boink)partner to know

If you like science fiction or he does, you could tell him you are really a cyborg and that this is your download port. If he wants more detail, tell him it is beyond most humans ability to understand. If you can't laugh about things, then move on to a new person. -
Were all in the same boat. I think for myself, the first fill was done when I still had some swelling in my stomach. So a week after the fill my swelling continued to got down and total restriction was actually less. Even though I had the fill it has been a long 3 weeks and 3lbs gained. I think another fill should really help now that the swelling is definitely down. I also believe that the unfill process during a fill can readjust things and make the fill react differently. I'm planning the next fill without any removal to avoid this potential change.

Well, I got home from being gone all week. Man, being in a hotel room all week away from my routine and my food made it really tuff. I am still doing ok for morning, but night time is like not having a band at all. I can eat anything at night and pretty much at any speed. It's a good thing I get a fill on tuesday, because the food is going right through at night. I sense that I'm one of those people who will be very very tight in the morning in order to be at the right restriction in the evening. The evening is when I fall, so if it does work out that way, I'll be just fine.

I'm just curious if anyone else has noticed this and what it really means. They show on the package that they have low carbs, but if you look closely it says sugar alcohols. It seems whenever I eat any of this chocolate and even accounting for the calories, it pretty much puts a stop to my weight loss. I'm not eating more calories per day, but I'm just wondering if the "sugar alcohols" is really reacting just like normal carbs and preventing me from losing weight. I am one of those people who really has to watch my carbs or I don't lose.

Well, this must be the shortest length, but longest duration thread ever? It started in 2003. One thing that I have decided is to get my fill in the afternoon. I had my first fill in the morning, but since I am naturally a lot tighter in the morning, I wasn't able to take much. I figure on my next fill, it will be in the afternoon, so that I can take more fill. Yes, this may mean a very tight band for me in the morning, but that is fine with me, I prefer because of time contraints and convenience to have a Protein shake for Breakfast anyway.

Why did I just throw up saltines?
Jaffa replied to Just Banded's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If the only way you can eat something is by drinking water with it, then technically you are violating the band rules. This would therefore be an item that you really can't eat. Deciding to do things like drink water with your food is really just eating around the band and defeating yourself. -
Should I get banded before or after my 14 weeks in India (volunteering & backpackin)
Jaffa replied to annab1984's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Backpacking and such right after surgery, or even for the first 4 weeks after, may be a bad idea. I was restricted on what I was allowed to lift. -
I love talking about periods!!!!! Ok, not really. LOL If I had to deal with that once a month, I think I would be completely insane.

Well, my band is close but no cigar yet. I feel perfectly restricted in the morning, but so loose at night that I could eat anything. This morning I ate at the breakfast buffet at the hotel and I was so happy to only want a cup of food. I took an entire plate of food out of habit, but just left it. My problem right now is at night everything is pretty much slipping straight through. I could eat just about as much as I want, but am trying to control myself until my next fill. I will get my next fill next week. ONE thing I have realized, is that for me getting a fill in the afternoon versus the morning is going to be a must. I wouldn't mind being so tight in the morning that I can just drink a protein drink, as this is all I usually have time for anyway, but dinner time is when I really need to be in complete control with a band. Getting the fill in the afternoon should get me closer to ideal restriction for that time of day.

Morning just right, evening meal is quite a fright
Jaffa commented on Jaffa's blog entry in Blog 53550
Yep, it is normal....you are in bandster hell. It happens to most, I didn't have it so bad, but most do. Stick with the food your doctor has approved you for, it is very important for the future of your band. I was easily tired, for the first 3 weeks. I felt normal if I wasn't doing anything, but just walking through a grocery store would get tiring. I think this is just as much from the surgery as the diet. Look for anyway to get protein that is in the approved form from your doctor. -

Well, my weight loss has been bouncing for the last 2 weeks. I have started going up a couple of pounds and then down a couple of pounds. I know the problem isn't so much my calories eaten as it is my excercise level. I started to swim again, and got a terrible cold for the last week. I think with some regular excercise this week, I should be able to push through this. I really want to lose another 20 pounds in the next two months, so I'm going to have to get some excercise to get my metabolism going. I will start today by walking for a couple of hours, and maybe a short swim.

Actually, if you think of it that way, it definitely keeps you from eating any of it!!!!!!!!

Band too tight? -OR- Eating too fast?
Jaffa replied to nothingcomesez's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I would do exactly what wasabubblebut is talking about. I would get overly hungry for dinner, and then eat too fast with too big of bites and have trouble. Now I make a point of drinking 16oz of Water 30-45 minutes prior to eating if I'm really hungry. It makes all the difference in the world, and yes I have found that I eat less this way, with less problems. If I'm not really hungry I do just fine and don't have to worry about it. -
Do you get sick of other people.......
Jaffa replied to lacasst's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did strickly atkins before the band at one time. I didn't lose a pound. Why? Because I was totally unable to control my portion sizes. I could eat the so called low carb stuff and avoid everything else, but I could eat so much of it that it still added up. Boy was I a perfect candidate for the band. I do try to keep my carbs to 100 now though. It just make me less hungry and less cravings. But that is just me, I think for some people it means nothing to have a lot of carbs. It really depends on your genetics.
