I was actually trying to help you, but you seem to be convinced by the upmost ethical nature of these doctors, so I will let it be.... By the way, my brother died from GB, and during the decline the doctor had many, many doctors consult, all just as incompetent or just to cover his ass. Why? Because he wanted as many people as possible to testify later that they didn't see anything wrong with what he had done or was doing. You know they did exactly that, even after looking back over everything, the bunch of idiots saw nothing wrong. Funny, we hired a lawyer, and he got a real expert on GB to look at everything. It took him 20 minutes to tell us why my brother died and why he should never even have had the surgery. You know what the hospital did after seeing his deposition and findings? Paid my family 600,000 dollars for the obvious screw up they made. But, hey believe what you want, and don't post a position or statement if you don't think people should question it, or wonder why you are saying it....that is forum 101. If you just want to say anything and not have people say anything back, you should definitely not post on a forum ever again.

Exactly two months, having to figure out some things
Jaffa commented on Jaffa's blog entry in Blog 53550
Well, I got the bodybugg because I was a little frustrated with the lack of progress lately. So far I am eating half of the calories that I am burning each day, and that runs about 1000 calories of deficit a day. So I should be losing at least 1lb and more likely 2lbs each week. My average for the week is now running about 2400 calories burned and 1200 eaten. Boy I hope this strategy works, I'm a little frustrated right now with the lack of movement on the scale. I did get stuck once yesterday, first time for that in a long time. I think it was a part of a pecan that didn't go down. Boy it really worried me at first. I didn't drink any water, because that just makes it worse, and after about 30 minutes it did pass. -

I think you are either mixing terms or someone is bull shittting you to avoid a lawsuit. You should definitely get a second opinion from another surgeon, this smells of a surgeon telling you half truths or intentionally letting you misunderstand something in order to avoid a lawsuit. Or you or just flat out misunderstanding something they are saying. I can't believe you really think an infection came from your band. It isn't like plastic spontaneously generates a bacterial or viral infection. It has to come from somewhere, and frankly it is more likely from the surgery itself. You are the one that is saying the surgeon says you had infection everywhere??? The skeptic in me says "follow the money trail, and you will almost always know the real answer".

Still loving my bodybugg and it seems to be helping me
Jaffa commented on Jaffa's blog entry in Blog 53550
Well, I'm not really to the sweet spot yet. Here is how a normal day breaks down for me. 200 for breakfast 300 for lunch 200 for protein supplement or snack 500 for dinner I have almost no restriction at supper, it is all self control. I'm not sure what you think is normal with the lapband, but most weight loss programs have you eating around 1200 calories for the best loss without your body reducing its metabolism or hanging onto fat. I'm hoping on April 1st when I get my next fill, I will be down to a little more restriction at dinner, and only have maybe 300 at dinner. As I lose more, I will need to reduce more and exercise more or I will stop losing. This is pretty much true for everyone. -
Well I'm doing good on the eating and my restriction is still pretty good. I can't say enough about how much the bodybugg has worked for me. I like the calorie counter and it seems to be helping me to now be more motivated to excercise. It just seems more rewarding to see the excercise do something for me each day in my calorie defecit versus just waiting for the scale to change. And it is still really helping me to properly track my calories and I'm even starting to make better food choices because of it. Man, I sound like a commercial for BodyBugg. I have heard about another product and I will post the name of it....it is suppose to be more accurate and a lot cheaper....but I can't remember the name of it right now. I have always liked aspargus, but now that I see the calorie count, I LOVE asparagus!!! Anyway, I have been running about 2600-2800 calorie burn per day, as apposed to about 2200 before the bodybugg, and I'm now eating about 1200-1300 calories a day and not going over by a couple of hundred a day. If the bodybug helps me continue to do these things, it was worth every penny and more. Going out to eat tonight and I already know what I'm going to order, because I have 600 calories to eat, and I know I can have some soup, grilled salmon, and asparagus for that kind of calories.

By the way, that calorie deficit difference should me an extra pound loss each week. Since I was down to about a 1 pound loss per week, this should give me a solid 2 pound per week loss??? We will see how it works out. -

I track calories in and calories out. But to tie the two together, the other day I was showing my wife how the BodyBugg recorded extra calorie burn while we were having sex. She didn't find it as informational as I did? But, she did note that like most excercise, that if it lasted longer I would burn more calories??? I wonder why she mentioned that?
-
Why is the HRM more accurate? I was under the impression that they are all about 90%?? Of course in the end it just helps me see where I'm at according to it, and what I have to do for a calorie deficit to lose weight may have to be adjusted.

Everyone should keep this in mind when using forums of any kind, not just weight loss forums. It has been prevelant on every forum I have ever been active with and has many times made me decide to leave.

? about getting back in the pool post OP
Jaffa replied to ericanda1973's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was told 4 weeks. Frankly, I still don't get in pools that I don't know who is taking care of them. Hotels, for instance can be very clean or very dirty and you can't tell by looking. I especially, stay out of public hottubs unless I know exactly what the Water test looks like.....I guess I know a little too much to be comfortable with some of the cess pools out there. -
Should I be mad at my husband for looking at dirty pictures?
Jaffa replied to Carrie_C's topic in The Gals' Room
I think if your really upset, and he is still doing it, then it is time for some marriage counseling. I do and don't do things my wife say's all of the time, but if it was something that was upsetting her, I would stop. He either doesn't think it really upsets you, or he doesn't care, or he can't stop. You need to figure out which it is and fix it from there. -
It helps me stay motivated when the scale isn't moving. I weight myself way too much, but now I can see how I'm doing everyday.

I know this is a really old post, but I thought I would let you guys know, that the Weight Loss Surgical Center in West Des Moines will do fills for other patients. They will require some information from your surgery. The only other place I know of is all the way in Minneapolis area....one of the fill center usa locations.

One thing that drives me crazy. Everytime I go to the site I have to log in again. The "rememer me" function doesn't seem to work.

Confused as to lap band or gastric bypass
Jaffa replied to TXMom38's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Any problems? Well of course. There have been several studies and I think it is around 5% total complications rate with the band at 5 years. No one can really tell you which surgery is best for you. It really is an individual thing. People can really only tell you how the different surgeries work and what the upside or downside to them might be. In reality the doctor has probably already took these things into consideration, if he has asked you about your eating habits and such. I had lapband because it was the only choice available for me, but if I could have had Gastric Sleeve, I probably would have went that direction. Mainly, because I am self pay regardless, and after the first year I have to pay for aftercare, or god forbid any problems. Since you have Insurance paying for it, you should be able to look at the pros and cons of both and decide which one you like best. -
Confused as to lap band or gastric bypass
Jaffa replied to TXMom38's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well you could have gastic sleeve? Most people think of it as the best of both worlds. You just get the reduced portion control, and can still eat just about anything. Of course if you just eat a little, but eat all day long, then this to can be defeated. Of course in the end, if you eat things that are absorbed quickly and have hi caloric content per gram, then you won't be successful with any Weight Loss Surgery. -
I bought the bodybugg more as a learning tool and tracking tool, to help keep me motivated and not look at the scale so much. Well, I have already learned a couple of things. First off, I'm only burning about 2200 calories a day so far after two days. I haven't excercise in those two days. What I hadn't even planned on doing was using the daily food log. I have never done this and have always just added up the calories. Right off, I noticed that after logging everything I was actually consuming about 20% more calories then I really thought. My goal is 1200, and while I did that the first day, I really thought I did 1000, and on the second day, I thought I was around 1200 and I was really at 1450. Wow, what an eye opener. I'm thinking this bodybugg is the best 200 dollars I have spent yet!!! I'm actually going to use the food logger since I'm not nearly as good at keeping track of the calories as I thought I was???

I would love to take a trip to see the Great Pyramids, but I just don't feel comfortable traveling in that area of the world. It may be a reasonable fear or not??? I have been to Mexico many times and most of Central America and the Islands in the Caribbean. One thing I have learned in any of these places is that you really need to know where you are at and if it relatively safe for tourists or not. I think the recession is really hurting the drug trade everywhere. Maybe they should have a program to help the dealers, so they wouldn't fight so much? Yes I'm just kidding.

Well last night was the first night in two weeks I felt any restriction while eating dinner. Unfortunately today is my second fill. I hope this up and down nature of restriction is too much to deal with long term. I also think that a lot of my weight gain was from eating soup at the hotel restaurant last week. I think this because in the two days since I got back I dropped 3lbs? That has to be water weight, so I'm thinking the soup had a lot of MSG in it or something? I say all of this because it could be that the MSG also was making me retain water and making my restriction less? It could all be related? I am predicting a .5cc fill today? I know I am still not at as good of a point as I was a week after my surgery, so I know I'm really not to the sweet spot right now.

Oh great, now I'm getting tighter right before my fill
Jaffa commented on Jaffa's blog entry in Blog 53550
So far so good. I'm down to one cup of food again. It also seems to be more consistent between morning and evening now. I have no clue why that would be, but it works great. -
Just to clarify, I wasn't doubting the poster's story....I just didn't see the necessity of making a new id for such a story. By the way, when traveling outside of the US, as a US citizen you are very commonly a target of crime. Always be awhere and cautious.
-
Why a new id just to report that? If you are worried about reprisals from someone in the Mexican Banding Industry, then it sounds like you should never have trusted them in the first place?
