    I hate birthdays.

This weekend was another birthday party. While I am careful to never exceed what I burn for the day, it is difficult. I only burned about 400 calories more then I ate. Not a good start to the week, but I'm still hoping for the 3lb loss that gets me to the halfway point!!!! I'm going to really have to bust some ass this week, hopefully work doesn't get in my way.
  2. Yes lap band for sure. I used Dr. Dahodia. Dr Nigro was my original Dr, but had surgery right before my surgery. They brought in Dr. Dahodia at that time.

I think Dr. Selim is a great choice.....lots of experience. I really liked Dr. Dahodia because he had lots of experience with laprosopic surgery.

Placing a lapband isn't all that difficult for an experienced surgeon. Aftercare experience is definitely better with people who specialize in lapband aftercare.

  3. I do agree some jobs are difficult to measure productivity. But I don't think that is really very often. Seniority systems of pay are really just a good old boy system disquised. If you work all day putting luggage on a cart, then a person can't really say, it takes much more then a year to figure out the job. After the first year, the pay should be equal. The seniority based pay is just what unions do to try and take care of the workers who have been there longer. They do that because they know the workers who have been there longer tend to have more enfluence. It almost never has anything to do with productitivity. Its just a form of office politics.
  4. Some occupations are actually better paying for women then they are men. Aviation, being the one I'm familiar with the most. An average woman in aviation will make somewhere around 1 million or more then the average man with the same exact career path. Why? Because the better jobs are always desperate to hire women and will hire them much sooner in their careers then they will hire the men. Just a fact. I really don't recommend aviation to most people, but if it is a young woman who is interested, I am very positive and highly recommend the career.
  5. The one thing I don't agree with, "seniority". I'm sorry, but the pay more for seniority is way over used. Yes, if the seniority actually equates to productivity, or means they are doing a different job, but no, if it just means they have been at the job for 15 years instead of 10. I think the concept of just paying people more because of more years of service is partially what makes the average pay for women lower. Many times women take a few years off for children. They often times change jobs after this, or aren't considered as senior. It's too often just an excuse to pay someone less for the same work.

    Exercise paying off big time!!!

Well, I have been tracking my weight loss from the beginning, and it is amazing to see how much the exercise is paying off. I can see where I was losing about 1.5lbs average per week, and then when I started the extra exercise I have consistently started losing more like 2.5 and even 3.0lbs per week. I am trying to do double of what they recommend. I am also very please with my restriction. This last fill has stayed with me so much better then the previous ones. I think I will need less on the next fill, but if I keep losing at this rate, maybe I will still need 1.0cc?? This week, I have a huge victory goal that may be achieved. If I can lose 3.0lbs this week, I will be halfway to my goal. It really all depends on getting the excercise in. I am now running a really consistant 1200 calories a day, and about 2800 calories of burn. That equals 10,000 calories of defecit a week....or about 3lbs of fat. So here is hoping for a great week at the gym. I'm planning to keep doing the 1 hour of biking, 1 hour of walking, and 1 hour of weights. Sometimes I just can't get it in with my work schedule. I'm limited by my need to get done by 7pm. If I don't, I can't get to sleep by 9pm. This is a must for me, as I get up at 4am a lot.

  8. Absolutely the AP Lapband. I have noticed that the realize band people almost never get any fluid in the band in after the surgery. This makes post op a complete nightmare because they are starving and have nothing to help them.

I suspect, but can't prove it, that this causes people to eat solids more then they should right after surgery. The stomach moves around a lot to digest the solids and keeps the scar tissue from healing as well around the band. Then later, about a year or so, when they finally get tight, they slip.

The realize band is basicially just a band that was bought from someone who has been making it for a long time. The Ap lapband is much newer in style and try's to get rid of problems. Also the lapband port is stiched in and then scar tissue develops to hold it in place. The realize band uses little claws that dig in when they extend them....I think this port has about three times the rate of flipping or moving in reality.

  9. Obviously everyone love the Wendy's Chili for a sure fired easy meal. Here are some others I have discovered that I like. Papa Murphy's Med. chicken Delite pizza Applebee's Chicken Fajitas without the flour shell What is your band friendly pick at your favorite places?

    Exercising in the Bedroom

Sex in 4 weeks, sooner if you want to avoid putting pressure on you stomach. It only burns about 3 extra calories per minute....you can walk slowly and still get more calorie burn.

    Low Carbers count calories???

Same idea for me. I try to stay in the 1200 calorie range, but I also try to get about the same amount of Protein as carbs. If I stay in balance, I don't seem to get as hungry. If I eat 80gr of protein, I hope I'm at around 80gr or less of carbs. I am working out a lot right now and I'm a guy, so I need as much as possible up to around 100gr. Some people are true low carbers and stay down around 25-30. I just can't do it. I did atkins before the band, but my portion control was totally out of wack, so it worked but not as well as the two together.
  12. Let me know if you have any other questions before or after.

Say Hi to everyone for me!!!! I won't be back in for a fill until the end of the month.

  13. Usually, they weigh you, then they talk about your qualifications and what the lapband will and won't do for you. What kind of things you can expect and what living with a lapband is like. They will also go over any requirments for your insurance, or if you are self-pay, they will go over the different financing options.

I was selfpay and I had the money so, I just paid with my credit card. But, most people who are selfpay tend to use one of the finance companies that they know of, becuase they offer much lower interest rates.

They are also going to look at any medical history that you have that may or may not require any extra testing. This is the same office you would get your fills at later most likely.

Usually, it is Theresa that is at the front desk, and Dyann who you talk to about stuff, she is also the fill nurse. Feel free to ask them anything, they are really nice people. They only do lapband, but they can answer other questions if you have them.

  14. I have found in many jobs I had to concentrate on my own pay and my own situation rather then compare to co-workers, or it would drive me nuts. I'm sure he probably does the same. I don't use my companies health benefits at all. My wifes insurance is better and my company will not coordinate benefits with anyone. So I get nothing extra, but everyone else in the company costs me money??? Doesn't seem right does it.

    Walking times?

I have done just the opposite of normal. I have slowed down to 3mph. This allows me to walk for a couple of hours each day. Before when I was doing more, my knee would start to hurt too soon and I would have to quit. I am going for what I can do that will give me the most calorie burn without aggravating my knee. Different people come up with different methods, but in the end calories used are calories used. My method DOES NOT however contribute to what they call cardiovascular fitness. I use swimming which doesn't bother my knee for cardiovascular fitness.

    Do you floss your teeth?

Anti-plaque oral rinse is probably the best thing you can do, if you aren't going to floss. I use it daily, and my dentist always looks at my teeth and say's what a good job I'm doing of flossing. I don't floss, just the rinse daily.
  18. Ahhhh, but if he is "on call" more then she is, then they are not performing the same job. Oh sure they have the same title, but they probably shouldn't. Or at the very least, she should be forced to take the same exact amount of responsibilities and on call time. I deal with this daily. Not on a sex basis, because in reality this single issue has nothing to do with sex at all. My job has some weekend work involved. If one person is never available to work those weekends, then shouldn't he be paid less? Of course he should, or something else should be done to keep things equal and fair. Currently nothing is done, but believe me it pisses everyone else off. Not because they are lazy or not willing to do the work, it is simply an issue of fairness. Why should everyone else work more, so that this person can work less. Just because he has "family reasons" for needing the weekend off? Heck, no. In the end, he is responsible for his family and that responsibility shouldn't cost everyone else.
  19. I'm not sure, but I think the statistics are like 70% probability of a slipped band, slipping again. I figure with my luck, mine will eventually slip. When it does, I will do the same as you, but start talking to the doctor I have already chosen to do the gastic sleeve. Honestly I used to worry constantly about the eventual slip. But since reading the success stories I have read of others who went on to get the sleeve, my anxiety has gone away. That doesn't mean I'm not careful and don't get overfilled and don't follow the band rules, but it has relieved my constant worrying.
  20. I did get one, but mainly to keep with my taxes. If I was to go through an audit, I wouldn't want them trying to exclude the surgery as cosmetic because I didn't have proof of medical need.

    Hows everyone doing?

Doing great. I have really increase my workout time, not really intensity, but time. I am doing well on the food, but still have to work daily to keep the Water intake up. People have started to notice and say things....they don't my secret.
  22. The Des Moines office is fairly new, so there aren't very many of us, but the Surgical Center in Kansas City does by far more lapbands then anyone else in the kansas Missouri Iowa Nebraska area.

  23. Perfectly happy with it. I was doing so well after the sugery, they paid for my hotel room, right down the road that night, and I got to sleep in a nice comfy bed.

I haven't had any problems. If I was going to get banded again, I was use them again.

If I was going to get a gastric sleeve, I would use Dr. Aceves in Mexico. I have known of several people who went to him and his statistics are the best anywhere.

We have a support group meeting coming up on the 16th in Des Moines, if you want to come, let me know. It will just be a few of us, since we are a new group.

  24. Sounds like your a perfect sleeve candidate??
