Any February 2009 Bansters?
ferrismom2 replied to exumtam's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was banded on 2/2. I have the some problem although it is improving. My doc said it from the anesthesia. Today is better. I can actually taste things the way they should be. I struggle to get the fluids in. I am so used to drinking with a straw and that is a major no no! I still can't handle the taste of the protein drinks- they were Ok before the surgery... but now they just make me nauseated. I am sure you will be tasting things better soon also. -

I so agree with just feeling OK. I was banded on the 2nd. I still have a yucky taste in my mouth (Doc said from the anesthesia) I have to force my self to get the minimum of 64 ounces in a day. I am hungry, I think, ... but not really. No vomiting. Occaisional nausea.... usually after getting yucky tasting fluids in. The stuff I loved to drink before just taste awful. I switched from liquid Lortab to splitting a vicodin- thinking that might help with taste in my mouth. we will see. I am not quite ready for plain tylenol yet. -

I was banded on Monday 2/2. Try putting an ice pack on the port site. It really does help. That is also where I have the most discomfort. It is really difficult to get the fluids in that I need- my taste buds don't seem to be working and nothing that tasted good in the way of liquids is tasting very good now. I am walking my mile on the treadmill- that has helped a lot with the gas pains. BTW- how do you add the ticker?? -

I have my surgery on Monday in Niles, MI. I am on my full liquids to day and clear liquids tomorrow with the delightful bowl prep. What a great way to watch the Super bowl right! I am not really nervous about my surgery. I am nervous about following the rules aftewards. I don't have the connection between my stomach and my brain and I am afraid I will not stop when I should and end up vomiting.... which is a big NO NO! I have taken 3-4 weeks off work to heal and mostly to get my head on straight. -
I have been approved by my BCBS MI insurance but now I am waiting on LapBand approving my insurance. My doc's office said this is something new for them. Has anyone else had experience with this. I have not heard of a medical supplier needing to approve an individual insurance before.

LapBand needs to approve the insurance??
ferrismom2 replied to ferrismom2's topic in Insurance & Financing
I am from SW Michigan. Dr. Michael Schuhknecht is my doc. He is at Laleland Compreehensive Weight Loss Center in Niles. LapBand approved my insurance :thumbup:and BCBS approved my surgery:thumbup: so I am scheduled for banding on Mon Feb 2. :bored: After some investigating on the LapBand website I found that they do the insurance approval to be sure the patient has enough coverage for the surgery. They have a patient assistance program I guess to help if there isn't enough coverage. -
LapBand needs to approve the insurance??

My doc is employed by the hospital, is in network for my insurance and has done thousands of LapBands and bypass surgeries. They said this is the first time they had to send in a form to LapBand. It should only take 72 hours for a response. I work in the health field and haven't heard of a medical supplier approving insurance. -
Usually when they do lap surgery, they inject the abdomen with gas so they can see better what they are doing... the gas gets trapped and causes pressure on the diaphragm. This gives referred pain in the back, shoulders and sometimes down the arm. It will work itself out. I haven't had my lap yet, but I have had several abdominal surgeries... It really hurts, sometimes more than the surgery itself. You should be doing better soon!:tt2:

Anyone getting banded in January
ferrismom2 replied to Peanutband's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Originally I was going schedule my LB for Dec 29. I have had my psych eval and medial clearance. I still need to have my stress echo done before my PCP will give me full clearance. I am now waiting until after Jan 1 due to my out of pocket and co-pay for insurance. If I pay it now, it will be due again in Jan . I am hoping to get scheduled before the end of Jan. Where is everyone from? I am from SW Michigan.
