    Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

Wow, that is very encouraging, indeed! You're my hero, Ferris Bueller! I have a camel back...definitely more comfortable than a camel toe! What kind of shorts do you wear? The ones with the gel pads? And helmet? Any other clothing recommendations? And what kind of bike do you ride? What did you take with you on that big ride...as far as food, water, powerade, anything else? How did you prepare in the days before the ride? Oh, too many questions, I know.

Yeah BG, it does look sweet, huh? I really need to figure out what my body needs as far as hydration and nutrition for something like that, though, or I will bomb. I also need to get a full road bike and not use my hybrid. Being in Texas, it is certainly named appropriately to be held in August! It's a good thing we are cooling off now for me to start training for it. My sis is gearing up for a half marathon in January right now, so she will cheer me on...she cycles, as well as runs. (She had gastric bypass in 2005.) I guess they will fly out for him to ride in the endurance ride with me. (They live in SC.) My BIL's Dad wants to do it now, too! We'll see how it goes! Those preserves sound scrumptious! I'll have to look for something like that here!

B - HA! I forgot about that cult stuff...you're right! Maybe that's why I get the same heeby-jeebies out there at night! We WERE gullible, huh? But is has stuck with us all this time because it IS creepy out there in the river bottoms. And the last time I went down there at night, I ran across a couple of bobcats, and there are always big 'ole wild pigs running around, even close to the housing divisions. They are getting braver and braver! You bet on the ride...just let me know! EVERYONE - Hey, I know this is a lofty goal, but my BIL just challenged me an hour ago to the Hotter N Hell 100 for 2008. He knows I don't challenge well and would accept! LOL I'm way too competitive...I will agree to it and kill myself to get to the finish line just to prove to myself that I can do it! Now I'm really intrigued....does anyone here have any personal knowledge of the ride? The website has great info, but I was just wondering if anyone here is cycling that hard. I think I could do 60 miles without much problem, but I'm worried about hitting the wall after that. Any training ideas would be most appreciated!

It depends on where you get your bracelet and which one you select. I got mine from Medical Alert Bracelets, stylish beaded and traditional medical alert jewelry by Creative Medical ID - Home and chose one of the mens bracelets. (Medical Alert Bracelets, stylish beaded and traditional medical alert jewelry by Creative Medical ID - Black & Silver Mens Set) I liked the band on this one, but wasn't absolutely CRAZY about it. I am a beader, so I made several more in different patterns and colors, with charms and without, to change out with the tag.

I live in Lavon, now. It's at the north east corner of lake ray hubbard and south east corner of lake lavon. Our land is adjacent to the Corps of Engineers land around lake ray hubbard, which is nice. I'm in Hurst quite a bit to see my parents and grandparents (they live about half-way between you and the surgical center off precinct). We're starting to look into moving back to Boston soon, though. I just need to find a job that pays well enough to cover increased cost of living and Mass state income tax. Did you grow up in the area? I went to Ft. Worth Christian and graduated in 1986. Hey Gang - I'm off to ride the real bike on the road!!! Haven't been able to ride since a few weeks before surgery! I'm so excited! Will report back in this afternoon - I'm 40 pounds lighter than the last time I rode. B How funny! Yes, you have it right...right down the street is where everyone used to hang out behind Bell Helicopter on Friday and Saturday nights and drag race. Do you remember that? Of course now there are NO PARKING signs every ten feet. Yes, I grew up here. I graduated from L.D. Bell in 85. Now my youngest is going there...am I THAT OLD?!?!? LOL That's a nice area where you are now. Why in the WORLD would you ever want to leave TEXAS?!?!? We are retired Navy...we lived all over the friggin' country and couldn't get back here fast enough! I do love the climate in Boston, though, for sure. We are thinking about moving out to Possum Kingdom Lake. With our jobs we can live anywhere, so it will be up to the kiddos, really. (At least for a FEW more years...then we are gone regardless! LOL) Enjoy your "real" bike ride today! I think I'll do the same! I ride at River Legacy Park...right on that back way to Arlington you used to take!

YUP! Here ya go... NSAIDs and Peptic Ulcers A peptic ulcer is a sore that forms in the lining of the stomach or the duodenum (the beginning of the small intestine). An ulcer can cause a gnawing, burning pain in the upper abdomen; nausea; vomiting; loss of appetite; weight loss; and fatigue. Most peptic ulcers are caused by infection with the bacterium Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori). But some peptic ulcers are caused by prolonged use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen sodium. Normally the stomach has three defenses against digestive juices: mucus that coats the stomach lining and shields it from stomach acid, the chemical bicarbonate that neutralizes stomach acid, and blood circulation to the stomach lining that aids in cell renewal and repair. NSAIDs hinder all of these protective mechanisms, and with the stomach's defenses down, digestive juices can damage the sensitive stomach lining and cause ulcers. NSAID-induced ulcers usually heal once the person stops taking the medication. To help the healing process and relieve symptoms in the meantime, the doctor may recommend taking antacids to neutralize the acid and drugs called H2-blockers or proton-pump inhibitors to decrease the amount of acid the stomach produces. Medicines that protect the stomach lining also help with healing. Examples are bismuth subsalicylate, which coats the entire stomach lining, and sucralfate, which sticks to and covers the ulcer. If a person with an NSAID ulcer also tests positive for H. pylori, (this is what mjsafari's husband has...now I know what it is! I had no clue before) he or she will be treated with antibiotics to kill the bacteria. Surgery may be necessary if an ulcer recurs or fails to heal, or if complications like severe bleeding, perforation, or obstruction develop. Anyone taking NSAIDs who experiences symptoms of peptic ulcer should see a doctor for prompt treatment. Delaying diagnosis and treatment can lead to complications and the need for surgery.

I'm sorry...I should have been more specific. My bad! Yes, it was my band doctor that said that. And since I have always had a bit of sensitivity to them anyhow, I made sure it was on my bracelet. In other threads, that is what others have put on the bracelet, as well. So I guess other docs make the same recommendation? I don't know for sure, but have always thought they were rougher on the stomach, so since erosion can be a problem for bandsters, this may be why the no nsaids.

Thank you, ma'am! No, vacation isn't for another three weeks...but I'm counting the days! I'm really starting to get excited about it! When I go, I will be baraging y'all with pics like that weird uncle and his slide shows! LOL Unfortunately, I've been very busy with my grandfather. He's always been healthy as a horse, and this summer (at 90) he gets lymphoma. He's been through numerous rounds of chemo, surgery, is on oxygen, is taking physical therapy...you name it. So we are at the hospital every single day since he just started radiation therapy. And then coordinating his oxygen therapy, physical therapy, taking his meals, taking him to the library three times a week (I get my thirst for reading/knowledge from him)...I'm a busy girl, to say the least. But he's doing VERY well, all things considered. He actually went to the gym with me today and walked the track upstairs while I worked out! He's amazing...we are blessed, to be sure. It just takes all our time to keep him that way!

I saw this info posted early in the summer and wondered what it was, also! When I learned what an NG tube was, the "visual" of it scared the hell out of me and I ordered my bracelet! Not much freaks me out at all, but the thought of me being out of it and knowing what could happen if someone put one of those in me without knowing about my band scares the bujeezees out of me! (Wow, that was a major confusing run-on sentence...sorry!) :omg:

If you watch the Walmart ads, sometime right before Christmas, they have a PHENOMENAL sale on them. (Or at least have had the last couple years.) I don't like the few they stock on an everyday basis at all, but the ones they got in for the special were great. We picked up two last year for the kids that are Compaq, CD/DVD player AND BURNER and they were under $400 each! It was a midnight madness sale, which I thought was going to really be a nuthouse (which I hate), but it wasn't bad at all. And they lie when they list how limited they are...they had plenty for everyone. They also limit it to one per person, so I took my Mom with me, but they let folks buy more, just on separate transactions.
