    Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

OMG that's so funny! You've got to share what y'all come up with! Speaking of that, though....a funny story: A couple of my daughters' friends were over to the house one night. It was her boyfriend and a couple of girlfriends. Two of the girls were a couple, one of which had been friends with my daughter since junior high, so I knew her real well. The girlfriend I didn't know so well. I didn't realize she had company when I walked into her room to model her one of the gowns I was going to wear in Vegas. The girlfriend says, "Oh my god, you're such a MILF!" Everyone laughs so I do too, but clueless as to why. Needless to say my daughter clued me in later. Wow...embarrassed! (And how inappropriate was that for this child to say to me?)

VACUOUS?!?!? EITHER OF YOU?!?!? NO WAY! Hottie? Yes. Vacuous? No. I hope that was a joke that I missed, because neither of you is anywhere NEAR devoid of substance! I LOVE-LOVE-LOVE your guys' humor, but I would bet that not everyone appreciates it until they get to know you. I live that, too. J, you're a little snide and wicked with your humor...BG, you're outright wonderfully trashy...ME? I'm sarcastic as hell and love to pick on people, in fun, that I like. But I probably pick on myself more than anything. It's worth it to get a laugh, don't you think? And I bet sometimes we are all misunderstood, so I know where you are coming from.

It is very painful! I pulled one of them in my left shoulder doing cable pull-downs with too much weight. I just HAD to push it! I never realized how much you use those muscles, but isn't that always the case? And you are right about the daily tasks thing...the worst one is trying to pull up my pants! LOL I have to use my right hand only! I look pretty silly! It's really pissing me off having to baby it and not lift weights at all this week. I just hope one week is enough.

    February Exercise Challege

You are so good at pumping up my ego...don't know if that's good or bad, but I love it, either way! And I DID take the day off and did absolutely nothing but putter around the house. Oh and one other thing I did was download over eleven hours of music onto my IPOD without hearing the same song twice, so that should get me through ANY training ride! I threw Santana, ELO, Steve Miller, Steely Dan, Stevie Ray Vaughn (LOVE HIM!), Alman Brothers, CCR, the Eagles, the Doobie Brothers, A Fine Frenzy, Fleetwood Mac, The James Gang, Korn, Metallica, Phil Collins, Genesis, REO Speedwagon, Styx, and the list goes on...all the good stuff is on there. I did some research and pulled a map off the internet for Trinity Trails. It's supposed to be a gorgeous paved trail system along the Trinity River that winds through most of the park system in town and a good chunk of the county, it looks like. There is supposed to be new landscaping, even at all the bridges, under bridge art, other public outdoor art, and all sorts of improvements. I've never been, so if it's not too cold, I'm taking the bike down there tomorrow. Looks like I can get in a minimum of 65 miles with no repeat. I won't be able to go that far, but it's nice to know it's there to work up to! Oh boy! :tt2: Several large chunks of the trail system is also equestrian trail, so maybe I'll see a few horses along the way!

J - LMAO you can always make me laugh...you have a sublime wicked side to you! And good job on the run! Maybe since I can't hit the gym at all this week with my tricep blown out, I should consider trying to run. Hmmmm....
  6. Good info! That is a very common concern amongst new bandsters.

What a great thing you are doing! Makes me wish I were near Houston instead of DFW! Maybe I should follow your lead and start one here!

    February Exercise Challege

Oh, and it is KILLING me to not be able to go to the gym! I went on Monday to do legs, but I can't do anything else until this tricep heals. I feel like a junkie who needs a fix! LOL It's a good thing I've got my bike to take this out on! I may head out on her again today for a short run...haven't decided yet. The legs are pretty tight right now and I may need to take a day off. But taking a day off is no fun!

Okay...where the heck IS everyone?!?!? Come out and play, guys! Yesterday I went 27 miles on my bike. It was a little chilly starting out, but I had my bike tights, Under Armor shirt/gloves/balaclava and century jacket to keep me warm. The wind was against me both ways! I don't even know how that's possible! It's like the old story of our grandparents having to walk barefoot to school every day uphill both ways! LOL Going out wasn't too bad, but coming back was brutal and I thought my legs were gonna blow up!

Hmmm...what to do in TX in february? Ride your bike, of course! (LOL I'm evil...I know!) 27 miles yesterday. The wind was brutal...and against me both ways! How is that possible?!?!? Not as bad going, but coming back it was horrible...thought my legs were gonna flippin' blow up.

Thank you much! Still learning all that, but basically welcome everyone, foster a postive attitude on the board, keep the forums clean and on topic, get rid of spammers and unruly folks to keep it nice for everyone, address reported posts....basically read, read, read as much as possible to make sure it is a safe, positive, learning environment for all.

Golly-gee-willikers! I can't even imagine going through all that snow, you guys! That's pretty dang funny about the mileage, though!

    psych evaluation ?

I didn't have to have one, but I went with my sister when she was doing all her testing before her GBP. The psych eval was pretty tame. They just wanted to make sure she was having the surgery for the right reasons. In other words, for health reasons. Don't let this one get you uptight, it will be fine. Good luck in your journey and keep posting!
  14. YES! I had the same issue right after surgery. The Gas-X didn't help, nothing seemed to help except for very cold sugar free JELLO, and only while I was eating it. I ate it very very slowly to make the coolness last, and eventually it subsided. Also, sleeping in the recliner that first week helped quite a bit so that I wasn't laying flat and allowing the acids to creep up. Try sticking to jello or anything cold and salt free or at least low in salt. If you have irritation, this will help. Good luck and let us know how you get along!
  15. Misty, I am so sorry you are having such troubles! Don't worry about the TMI, as there is much worse on here and all that is fine, too! That's why we're here! I'm coming across your question a few days later and hope you have resolved your issues, but if not, please call your general doc or pharmacist for advice. They may want you to be seen. No matter what, I don't think you should be in this much discomfort for so long, so let them figure out how to help you. Let us know how you come along.

    Going to seminar 2/14

Not in Iowa, but good luck on your journey! I remember going to the seminar...about this time last year, as a matter of fact! Don't let anything get in your way if this is what you want and is best for you. It's a fantastic tool to help you get that weight off. Keep posting and let us know what you think after you go to the seminar!

    Weekend Support Group?

Maybe find some really gung-ho bandsters on here to talk with off the forum to gain encouragement and tips? Maybe direct email or PM's with them...maybe "virtual" workout partners...diet accountability to each other. I wouldn't mind helping out, if you like. Check out my posts...I'm not gung-ho...I'm "GUNG-HO!" LOL Either way, yes it does come down to you, but maybe you just haven't come across the right spark that you need to get you moving? Good luck and keep posting and looking for answers!

    UHC and diagnosis

Sounds like you are an excellent candidate, but you will just have to begin the process to know for sure. Your doc and his staff will walk you through the whole process and help you as much as possible. My BMI was 36 no comorbidities and I was approved, so it can be done! I'd go for it, and good luck!

Yes, ma'am. I was just invited to moderate this weekend, and accepted. A lot to do, and I love it. So y'all let me know if there is anything I can do to help out or improve things. :scared2:

You are quite welcome! I got your PM and will be updating everyone that I have tomorrow. OH! Congrats, Syndy, on your band! I know the first week is a little rough, but it gets better so much, so fast! You will love your band, even if it frustrates you at times. Please stick around! WHOS is right...walk, walk, walk to start. Then work your way into some serious cardio and resistance training. NO ONE has to be as crazy about resistance as I am or do NEAR as much, but it IS essential to reshaping your body and everyone needs to do some on a regular basis. The cardio is what seems to come easier to folks. Bike and elliptical are great ones in the cardio room. WELCOME! Good for you, Alisa! I kept looking for you today to see if you would check in. I'm eager to see how you do...I think you are going to do great! You just seem to have a good, open attitude! That's the biggest hurdle! I love that you call it elliptiKILL! That is so appropriate! There is a lawyer that goes to my gym that I talk to regularly, and when he is finished with his resistance training, he always says, "Well, I'm off to the CARDIAC room!" (Instead of CARDIO) That is also particularly appropriate!

    Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

Yes, you will definitely need to find out what kind of pedals the Y has before you buy shoes and cleats. Are they round and solid (Speedplays) or do they look like egg beaters (Look, Shimano, etc.)? Your instructor should be able to help you out in that area! I warned y'all! :smile2: Do you have a link for that? I'd love to check it out and meet up with you guys!

Um, yeah! I meant 6.8 miles. Yeah, that's it. No, seriously. I think it's a little over six miles one way just to get to the first park so I can START the trails. It really was an awesome ride! You can do it, too! It's so great to get out there and just ride and ride...no problems...no kids fighting...no bills.......just you and the pedals. It's an amazing stress reliever! It's funny because I think folks think I'm full of crap-o-la when I say stuff like that. Like my mother...she signed up for the MS150 with me and when I took her on a training ride, she says "You are actually SERIOUS when you say we are going that far?!?!?" Well "DUH", mom! LOL I was proud of her...she's 60 years old and she hung right in with me for over 40 miles! Gotta love it! I had come up with that for another site recently, and am kinda fond of it! I've been Stefanie42467 on so many sites for so many years, that it makes me just yawn. I kinda luv "TexasFire67"! (You know, because I'm so shy and reserved and all! :smile2:) It's getting a good response, too! I love that! I'm glad you like it, as well!
