  1. Has anyone with type 2 diabetes gone into remission from it after being sleeved? My diabetes has gotten totally out of control no matter how hard I try. I know that I need help with eating right and exercise, but for some reason I feel hopeless. I remove the band 8 months ago and my surgeon feels that RNY is the better surgery to help with my diabetes. I am overweight but feel a little hesitant about having RNY. At 215 lbs, I feel that I can get the results I need with the sleeve but what I need the most is good positive results with my blood sugars. Also, does anyone have acid reflux since being sleeved?
  2. Thanks coco6983, I needed to hear that. Best of luck to you too!
  3. Mine was removed 7 mos ago. I am scared too! I've tried to lose on my own since then, but I just cant' do it. I have no incentive or motivation to exercise. I feel like giving up b/c I've been torn between rny and the sleeve for so long, that now I don't want to do anything and just live with getting the complications of my diabetes. I never thought in a million years that I would ever openly admit or write something like this. But actually by writing it out, I can see how stupid it look and sound. If I am afraid of complications from both diabetes and RNY, then why not just have either sleeve or rny surgery to prevent the obvious complications that comes with the uncontrolled diabetes that I have. Thanks for opening up my eyes.
  4. Hi Heather, It sounds like you're doing great! as long as you're happy, try to stay positive. I should be having surgery in another 6 weeks and I know already that I'll be going through the same thing. I am already hearing from family that I don't need to have the surgery, and it is so hard to keep my head straight. My mom,2 brothers, and a sister to die from diabetes complications. I have it too and want the best solution, I think RNY is my better choice. I'm happy for you and glad you asked the question that I know I'll be hearing. I weigh 220 and carry it all from waist up.

    Getting Close to Surgery

misformimi, I have the same bmi as she does. I have all of the co-morbidities and My Dr. feels that RNY would be my better choice. I had the band and had terrible acid reflux issues as well. I'm afraid to have this surgery b/c I'm a light weight. My surgeon's nurse said to me "Why don't you just get the sleeve". Well, #1 insurance wouldn't pay for it and #2 RNY will give me a better chance of putting my diabetes in remission. The sleeve may be a better choice for her and me, but I hate to imagine living with the acid reflux as I did with the band. She probably did mean to post on the Sleeve forum.
  7. It'll get better and I'm so sorry you went through that. One of the nurses in my Dr's office said to me " why are you seeking RNY? why don't you just get the sleeve". She said that b/c I was a light weight for RNY. Another said to me on another visit "Oh Man, you're gonna be super skinny". Both times I felt awful, b/c I have pondering over doing this for years and I would't if it wasn't for my diabetes and HBP. My insurance wouldn't even pay for the sleeve at that time. I've thought to go elsewhere too, but this Dr. has already performed surgery on me when he removed my band and other hospitals are far away. I felt like crying too but just hang in there. Most of us have some sorts of issues going in, whether it's family, fear, or finances. I'm still waiting too!
  8. Hi, I'm your age, hight and 3 lbs heavier. I haven't had surgery yet but will soon be starting the pre diet. I'm hoping to have a date set for week 1or 2 in March. I had the band for 5 years and had it removed 6 months ago. I've gained 10# since the removal and 13 back before the removal. I'm tired of waiting around now b/c I've heard and have done plenty of homework. I've searched around for the best surgery that's right for me. This will be my third surgery too. One Dr. said that if I were sleeved and it didn't work out, then I could still have RNY done. I say knowing this, and due to my co-morbidities, I will just do RNY to avoid a possible 4th surgery. Please! Let's keep in touch.
  9. Thanks Golflady, That sounds like a good rate. Sounds like you're doing well. Keep going
  10. Notinks, I'm no spring chicken which is one reason why I don't care to lose too fast, I have enough hanging skin as it is LOL. I can handle an average lose of 2-4 lbs per week, but not 10-12 per week. Thanks, that was my reason for asking.
  11. Hello everyone, I've heard that you will lose slower once you convert to RNY from the band. Mine was removed several months ago and I really don't want to lose too fast b/c I only have around 50 lbs to lose. How was it for those of you that had RNY later in two steps or even in one step. Was the weight loss slower? Thanks~
  12. Hi Robin, I can totally empathize with you. I was banded for 5 years and had it removed 6 mos. ago. I couldn't decide on which surgery that I should convert to b/c I still have 60 lbs to lose to satisfy me and not more than that. Dr. said RNY b/c of diabetes and high blood pressure. I've always been soooo afraid to have RNY. I don't want to look sickly either and I told my Dr. that (no reply). I also told him that I was afraid to get too skinny and lose too much weight. I've gained 20 lbs back and now weigh 225 and I'm 5'2" tall. I 'm worn out from worrying about this procedure b/c i have to do all the pre-op test again and 1 month of liquids. Therefore, I have to lose even more weight before he will do it. My weight is unevenly distributed. I am waist & top heavy with thin legs and wrists, so even though I'm of an older age, i still care about my body image. I've dropped out of this several times and I feel like my Dr's office staff is sneakily watching me, or am I paranoid? Are they watching me due to my size, or do they look at me as being a nut case. I've decided to do it b/c I owe it to myself to try and get healthy. I also have diverticulitis. We can do this. Good Luck!
  13. Thanks to all of you. I feel so much better about this. I know that the arthritis in my feet will be happy I took this route.
  14. I don't think that I would mind the slow weight loss either. I think it may be better also.
  15. that's why I'm looking into doing this (RNY) in hopes of taking control before my health really get out of control if it's not too late. So far, So good. Ever since being banded, I really started to look pregnant. I had 2 bellies stacked ..LOL
