Whats so great about Lapband over conventional dieting/excersize??
suepro replied to FatManInALittleCoat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know of at least two people over here in the uk who have had a band fitted after substantial regain with their RNY and several more who are hoping to be able to get it done. With the RNY there is a weight loss window of opportunity of a maximum of 2 years. The band is alaways adjustable so can help with the stretched pouches of the long term RNY patient. -
My port is very easy to feel under the skin on my left side just below the bottom of my rib cage. Luckily I haven't had any port pain at all. I think different surgeons place ports in different places so I am sure your is fine where it is. Sue

Hi there Don't worry, you will start to lose again once you have had your fill. I was lucky as my band was fitted with 2.5mls so I had a bit of restriction and I did lose some weight. The last week or so before the fill was tough and I had to diet. Having the band is hard work and you have to work with it. once you get restriction the band will ensure you don't eat too much but you will have to make sure you eat the right foods to still lose weight. I hope you don't have to wait too long until you get your fill because this is a really tough time of year with lots of temptation. My social life has hit a downturn because so much of it revolved around food. Don't beat yourself up for putting on a couple of pounds, after all you are in this for the long haul, losing weight with your band is a marathon, not a sprint and sometimes you will hit a few hurdles along the way. You have to think positive and believe in yourself that you can do it and you will. Very best of luck to you, keep us posted with your progress. Sue

Hi everyone I just joined this forum, have browsed the threads and it looks great. I am from London, England and was banded on 6 November and had my first fill 2 days ago. I have lost 30 pounds since my consultation with my surgeon in August and am loving my band so far. I look forward to sharing experiences with you all. Sue

Hi there I had my first fill 2 days ago & feel like a real bandster too! I made the mistake of having a couple of mouthfulls of Pasta and had my first Pb- it was awful, pain in the chest like I have never had before and then the food came right back up. That was when it really dawned on me that I am a bandster and need to be careful about what I eat. For now I have some restriction, next fill not until mid January. Sue

Hi Faberge I have just joined this group too. I was banded on 6 November at St Richards hospital in Chichester at a specialist bariatric unit by Mr Guy Slater. I am doing pretty well and have just had my first fill. I am loving my band and am glad that it is the weight loss surgery I chose. Personally I felt the gastric bypass was a bit drastic for me. Very best of luck to you. Sue

Hi Lois Its good to hear from some long term bandsters, I was banded on 6 November and just had my first fill so its early days for me. I am from England and most bandsters I have come across have been banded in the last couple of years so its good to know it can work in the long term and that you have lost an maintained your weight. Baby bandsters like me look to people like you for advice and help through our journey. I just joined this group and had a look through the various threads and it looks great. Sue
