Would you move where has someone died?

The cycle of life- death comes to us all. An old lady died in my house, didn't bother me at all. My friend moved into a house and was told be a neighbour that a child had drowned in the bath. She never felt comfortable with using the bath so had the bathroom remodelled. Sent from my SM-G920F using the BariatricPal App

  6. Very odd behaviour for your surgeon to try and use scare tactics. Most surgeons will explain why you should adopt good long term eating habits. I had a dentist once who to me that if I didn't have the treatment he recommended that all my teeth would fall out. Needless to say I found a new dentist. Back to your original question about whether people have a last food binge, I am not on my pre op diet for another week and am going out on Saturday with a group of friends who don't know about my surgery and I will eat as I normally would. My stomach hasn't yet been reduced in size so I am viewing it as my last supper before my new life. When I was banded I lost and maintained all excess weight for 5 years and had no problem with going to restaurants and eating on plan. I stopped drinking alcohol and carbonated drinks back and have never regained that habit. Post surgery, tastes alter and the things I missed were things like cherry tomatoes, grapes and various other fruit and veg. I did not miss carbs. My surgical team for my bypass have emphasised, healthy eating, long term, small portions, Protein first, then veggies and very little refined carbs. Good luck to you x Sent from my SM-G920F using the BariatricPal App

Erosion - Band's coming out Tuesday

Sorry that you have to have your band removed but it sounds like your symptoms were not as unpleasant as many of us get when band eroding stomach. When mine was removed, I was immediately able to eat after not being able to keep anything apart from slider food down. Good luck with everything. Sent from my SM-G920F using the BariatricPal App
  9. If you can't keep liquids down, you need urgent medical attention. I hope that everything is sorted out quickly for you. Sent from my SM-G920F using the BariatricPal App
  10. I'm on low carb for now and shakes for the final 5 days before surgery. I hope that I am well enough to go to my neighbours 6th birthday party on 9th April, even though I won't be able to eat anything. Sent from my SM-G920F using the BariatricPal App
  11. You, like most of us who are going down the route of WLS, have long-term issues with food. You were disappointed that your surgery is postponed and you went on a binge. What's done can't be undone so leave that in the past and move on. Don't beat yourself up, ditch the junk food and get back on your pre op eating programme. 13. To be honest I am surprised that bands are still being fitted, despite the huge number of people requiring revision surgery. I think that more people are researching and going for sleeve and bypass but how long will it be until bands are phased out? Sent from my SM-G920F using the BariatricPal App
  14. That's great news your surgeon is happy with your progress and that you are a step closer to getting your sleeve. Sent from my SM-G920F using the BariatricPal App
  15. My surgery is scheduled 2nd April, really looking forward to it now.My surgeon said bypass better and after reading posts here from people who went from band to sleeve to bypass, think he's given me good advice. 16. Weight loss surgery is a huge step to take and is one of the biggest life events. It's good that you're recognising the emotional effects that having surgery will impact on your life. Many of us have long-term emotional issues with food and having the option of comfort eating taken away is scary and some people grieve for the fact they can't turn to food as a coping mechanism. Then the effect on social life is another factor. I'm having surgery to revise from band to RNY. My band wreaked havoc on social occasions as there were so many foods I couldn't eat that for a time I refused invitations because being there while everyone was eating was hard for me. I also got a buzz from losing weight being more active and wearing nicer clothes so I overcame all the other the issues. 'Nothing tastes as good as slim feels ' was my mantra. I had my band removed due to GERD and tried to maintain myself but hated gaining weight and my old eating habits returned. I know life after my new surgery won't be easy but bring it on! I am so looking forward to being a loser again. Good luck to you, can you get counselling to help? Sent from my SM-G920F using the BariatricPal App
  17. To be absolutely honest, when my band was removed I took very little time to heal. Felt instantly better because I was relieved of the reflux and vomiting. Back to work 2 days later. Everyone heals differently, rest up and let your body recover. My scar tissue is so bad that I was refused a sleeve and am getting a bypass instead. Take care of yourself, you will heal up and when your body is ready you will get your sleeve. Sent from my SM-G920F using the BariatricPal App

    2 step revision

When my band was removed, I immediately felt a million times better than I had in ages. I was out walking my dogs the next day and back to work the day after.Everyone heals differently so take as long as you need. I think that I will rest up for a few days after my RNY Sent from my SM-G920F using the BariatricPal App
  20. I had my band removed in 2013 due to slippage resulting in GERD I wanted a sleeve but surgeon said it isn't suitable for me and suggested bypass instead. After reading multiple threads on this forum of sleeve to RNY revision, I think it's a wise thing for me to do. Sent from my SM-G920F using the BariatricPal App

    Bypass vs Sleeve

I previously had a band which was removed two years ago and initially wanted to get a sleeve but my surgeon recommended RNY due to the very bad gerd that I had when my band was slipped/eroding and the likelihood of bad scar tissue which might mean leaks on the staple line of a sleeve. Take your surgeons expert advice about which is better for you.

    2 step revision

Hi i am having a revision to gastric bypass, I had my band in 2008 and it worked well for me, i kept all my excess weight off until 2013 when I had really bad gerd and it was discovered that the band had slipped/eroded. I decided to let things settle down and managed to maintain my weight for a little while as at that point I didn't want to go through another surgery. Now over 2 years later, I have regained 2/3 of my excess weight and am booked for a bypass on 2nd April. i know that some people have the gastric bypass on the day the band is removed but I wanted to allow my body to heal. I think your surgeon knows best, take the advice offered. I originally wanted a sleeve but my surgeon advised me that due to scar tissue from my band and the risk of leaks on the staple lines, RNY is better. He said he didn't want to be revising me from a sleeve to a bypass in another couple of years. Good luck, hope everything works out well for you. Sue

Mr Super has an excellent reputation, you will be in very good hands with him. If he has accepted you for surgery then your BMI is high enough. For a private patient the guidelines are BMI over 35 to have a band, although sometimes people who start at 35 are a lower BMI by the time of the op if they have been on a pre op diet. Good luck, hope it all goes well. I started at BMI 41 and how have a BMI of 24.5 I weigh 10st 10lbs which I never dreamed possible a year ago.
