  1. I thought this was a good place for someone who is newly banded to ask an honest question, but you're right, maybe a message board of people pretending to be experts isn't the best place to get advice or guidance.
  2. I understand how metabolism works and everything , but if you're not hungry, how do you eat? That's my problem.
  3. How do you get over 1000 calories in you? I'm rarely hungry and I know I'm not eating enough. I don't want to stall my weight loss, but I don't want to force myself to eat. Life with this band seems like a real catch 22.
  4. I also work in a library. I took a full week off. The hardest part was sitting for 7 hours. Getting up and moving felt good.

    This sucks

    Maybe you're not exercising enough
  6. I like my doctor too. I did get through (after 4 days of phone calls) and saw him today. When I spoke to the office last week, I also asked if I needed to meet with the dietician and they told me no. Well, today, the doctor told me to make an appointment with the dietician. I wish these people could get their acts together.

    sugar free vs. fat free

What are you shopping for? Lots of things are both sugar and fat free. Go for those.

    Allergic to bandaids???

I have sensitive skin and am allergic to band-aid adhesive, too. It sounds like you still have some irritation since your doctor doesn't think it's an infection. I usually put some hydrocortisone cream on rashes like that. Ask your doctor if that would be ok. It helps me when I have a reaction. Don't try to dry it out with alcohol or peroxide. That will make it itchier!
  9. Sunday mornings. That's it. I never have been and don't ever want to be obsessed with my weight. I know when I'm losing weight because of how I feel and how my clothes fit. The scale isn't going to tell me that.

    Discouraged

Stop getting on the scale. It will make you crazy. Numbers don't mean anything. It's all about how your body feels and it's probably already started feeling better. Hang in there!!
  11. I was banded 2 weeks ago. I don't feel like I need to explain the weight loss to anyone. If someone notices it, I just say thank you. I think that's enough.
  12. You don't have to tell anyone you're having surgery. I only told one of my coworkers because she's like a mom to me. I told my supervisor because I wanted her to know why I've had so many doctor's appointments recently. My bosses don't know and none of my other coworkers know. I don't think they need to know. If you're not comfortable talking about it, you don't have to.

    Pain has me worried...

I had discomfort from sitting straight up at work the first couple days. Get up and walk around a bit. It'll help. Also, I made the biggest mistake of wearing jeans. Elastic is a good friend while your belly is healing.
  14. I took me a year to be approved by insurance. Every time I thought I had completed all of their requirements, they would add something else. They suck, but you just have to keep playing their game. Just hang in there. Good luck.
  15. What was the pre-op diet you were put on? All liquid?
  16. My boyfriend and I have each others' passwords to any social networking sites, email, etc. we're on. Would it make him feel better if he had yours?

    unsure

I'm eating soft solid food in my 3rd week. I didn't have to stay on a liquid diet. Your surgeon has given you the ok to move on to solid foods. He wouldn't tell you to eat them if it wasn't safe. Don't worry. Just make sure you chew and eat slowly. You should already feel full with less food.

    Woman no more!!!!

The store catalog/ brochure type thing has "plus size" models, who nobody in their right mind would consider fat. The other mail-order catalog doesn't have any plus size women at all. It's super annoying.

    Woman no more!!!!

That's awesome!! I don't care about the numbers on the scale so much, my only goal is to never have to step foot in a Lane Bryant again!!
  20. I needed a letter of support from my primary doctor to have my surgery approved. Maybe ask some people at the seminar if they can recommend theirs. A doctor who supports weight loss surgery is good to have. They'll go over so much information at the seminar and you can (and should) ask questions there. Once you find your hospital/surgeon, they'll lead you through everything.
  21. I wish I had this done when I was 20. Having the surgery now, while you're still young, can change your life before you hit the best part of it. I'm sure your family wants you to be happy and healthy. I'm sure they'll have questions. My mom went to the seminar and my first doctor's visit with me. After that, she was the biggest supporter of the surgery. You're already doing your research, go talk to your primary doctor, and the rest will start to fall into line. Good luck with everything
  22. I'm 29. I couldn't think of a better 30th birthday present to give myself
  23. I started researching weight loss surgery when I was 19. It took me almost 10 years to make my decision. I made my decision last year and wasn't approved until 2 months ago. Over that year, I questioned my decision so many times, but I also tried to lose weight on my own so many times. When you get so sick of the yo-yo dieting... losing 50lbs only to gain back 80, you'll know this is the right thing to do for yourself. I'm almost 2 weeks in, and only now stopped questioning my decision. Give yourself time to feel comfortable with it.
  24. It definitely feels super weird at first. I couldn't tell if I was hungry or sick. It's kind of like having a new stomach and we're still learning how to understand it. It will feel better in time. Just make sure you're putting some kind of food in there. I hope the broth helps
  25. Doctor's offices drive me crazy. I've been trying to make my 2 week post-op appointment all week and nobody ever picks up the phone. I've left a message, no reply. I feel your frustration!!
