Apnea and will NOT use Cpap
shellyphaunts replied to Lady Lap Band's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would encourage you to use it. Sleep apnea is serious, and can lead to other serious health problems. Before I was diagnosed w/ sleep apnea I felt like hell all the time. I could be sitting in a chair reading a book and doze off. I couldn't concentrate and felt like I was in a fog all the time. I had zero energy and stamina. I couldn't get thru the day without a nap. (or two) Now I use my CPAP each and every night. I feel 200% better. I haven't needed a nap in two years! Best of all, I don't stop breathing at night. :smile2: Yea, it may look silly, but I would rather look silly than risk my health. Give it a shot!! Hugs, -
Thanks sweetie! How are you doing?? I have been away from the boards for a few days. Catch me up!!

how are the feb banders doing
shellyphaunts replied to bigbarry1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded 2/16. Doing great!!! Exercise restriction still hasn't been lifted. Another two weeks to go until then. However, I have been doing Wii Fit daily, and eating small low-fat meals. I'm down 28 lbs and my BMI finally dipped UNDER the 40 mark. Had my first fill Wednesday. Doctor wants me to lose 4 lbs in 3 weeks. I say, no problemo!! Bring it on!!! Love my band! :tt1: Hugs, -
I went in for my first fill Wednesday. I had this goal of losing 30 lbs by my first fill. I stepped on the scale, and I had lost 24. I made a COMPLETE fool of myself. I was so disappointed, that by the time they sat me in the little room, I was in tears. My dh was trying to calm me down when my doctor walked in. He was baffled at my reaction. It was cute, he got this really stern look on his face, and asked me if I was supposed to worry about losing weight the first 4 weeks after surgery?? I admitted, I wasn't. Then he told me the fact that I had lost 24lbs with no restriction, all on my own was phenominal. He actually used the word "phenominal." I was blown away.... and felt like a shmuck. The fill itself was uncomfortable, but not even half as bad as I thought it would be. I've been on liquids and mushies for the past few days. I haven't been able to eat much at all. I decided to get on the scale this morning, and was I shocked! I am only 2 lbs away from my 30lb goal. BUT my BMI is below 40!! This was another mini-goal. To get my BMI below 40, finally. It feels so awesome to meet a goal!! This goal, any goal! It's been way too long since I took a risk and worked my butt off to get something. Time to work out!

Okay, I finally did it! I got a Wii Fit. This thing is really cool! I haven't been cleared to exercise yet, but I got on there and did some of the balance stuff and yoga. I loved the game where you have to get the ball in the hole! Harder than it looks! My 62 year old mother got on there and did the Hula Hoop game and balanced better than I did. AND her Wii Fit age was younger than mine!! I had to throw the gauntlet down and tell her to come back in a month and we will see who is younger! Anyhoodles, I think this is going to be great for the whole family to use! A little exercise couldn't hurt the kids!!! I am actually looking forward to exercise!!! Hugs,

Wii are ready to work out!
shellyphaunts replied to shellyphaunts's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay, I went to Toys R Us and bought Dance, Dance Revolution for the Wii. My daughter was raving about it. It was okay, but I certainly don't get the buzz. I love to dance, but this one is kinda boring. Unless you click on expert level. And when you're at expert level, you feel like a total SPAZ!! On the upside, as exercise goes, it's more fun than say, jogging! :tt2: Hugs, -
Am I the 1st unsuccessful bandee?
shellyphaunts replied to Lolo44's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I find that keeping a food journal is essential for me. I use myfitnesspal.com to log every single thing that goes into my mouth. I usually eat five to six small meals per day. I watch my portions carefully. Fat grams, carbs and sugars are what I really concern myself with, but protein is numero uno! I try to keep the protein between 60-80g per day. For breakfast I have either a poached egg, or a special K granola bar or a bowl of cereal and skim milk. Then I have a snack of fruit or a yogurt. Lunch is usually a protein and some fruit. Then for another snack I have sugar free jell-o or a protein shake, maybe some carrots w/ fat free ranch. Dinner I try to get a protein, veggie and fruit, again, watching portions. And I am absolutely ADDICTED to sugar free popcicles! 15 calories and NO fat! :sneaky: I drink water all day, and never any juice. There are alot of sugars and carbs in most juices, and carbs are my nemesis. I try to never have more than TWO starches per day. And never more than 1 serving of fat per meal. But logging it all online makes it so much easier to keep track. It is time consuming, but is totally worth it when I step on the scale! Hope this helps!! Wishing you continued success in your journey!! Hugs, -
Calling all Fab Febs
shellyphaunts replied to tdteach99's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just got my first fill a few hours ago. I didn't sleep well last night, had nightmares about a huuuuuge needle and pain and OMG! :sneaky: I got myself all worked up about NOTHING! Honestly, it was like a normal injection. No biggie at all! I am on liquids today, mushies tomorrow, then back to normal food. And on my way to WEIGHT LOSS!!! Yay! Have faith, you will be fine! Hugs, -
I am feeling stronger each day. Been exercising on the Wii Fit and everyday I do better and better. As for the diet portion, I am trying with sheer willpower to lose each time I step on the scale. I keep my fat/calorie count each day. My unofficial goal was to lose 30lbs by Wednesday, when I get my first fill. So, that means I have to lose approx. 8 lbs in three days No way that's gonna happen unless I go back on the "broth" diet. Why do I do this to myself? When was the last time I lost 22 pounds in ANY amount of time?? After I had my son 12 years ago?? Sheesh. I should be happy with 22 lbs in a month. But, I push myself and get mad at myself for "failing" to meet my 30 lb goal. Someone smack me. Hugs,

shellyphaunts replied to sherryred73's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
More power to ya if you can already sleep on your side!! It took me almost two weeks until I could finally sleep on my side. Talk about miserable!! I hate sleeping on my back! Good luck to ya!!! Hugs, -
Wii are ready to work out!
shellyphaunts replied to shellyphaunts's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, it is good to know that I am not the only one who didn't figure that out right away! I unlocked the boxing game today. Talk about a workout! I was sweating my tush off! Then that smart-a@# punching bag says "I bet you didn't even break a sweat, did ya?" WHAT? Meanie!! :w00t: It is soooo nice to actually see progress. Everyday my BMI goes down a little bit. And my Wii age is only 5 years away from my actual age now! It has been so long since the scale moved DOWN, I feel like I am dreaming!!!! I ABSOUTELY LOVE the Wii Fit!! Hugs, -

Wii are ready to work out!
shellyphaunts replied to shellyphaunts's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMG!!! I thought the blue button had to face the t.v. so it could communicate w/ the Wii. Guess I could have read the instructions....but where is the fun in that? Ok, I AM the biggest spaz on the planet............ Thanks for your help!!! Hugs, -
ProSlam27 is a 3oz plastic "bullet"-shaped container and has 27g of protein. I put it in a glass of tea (the peach) or crystal light (fruit punch) and it is easy and quick to get down. I also like Nature's Best Isopure. It comes in a glass bottle and is about 12- 15oz. But it has 40g protein! It comes in punch, grape and pineapple-banana. They all taste great! Kinda like gatorade. You can find both at your local GNC. Hope this helps. Luck to you! Hugs,

Wii are ready to work out!
shellyphaunts replied to shellyphaunts's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay, I unlocked that stupid bubble-down-the-river game. I must be the biggest SPAZ on the planet! I can't get past 198 yards on this thing!!! How freaking annoying! And I have noticed that on the step-dance game & the yoga , when they refer to the left leg, it is actually my right. Why am I backwards?? (besides the fact that I am a complete spaz) In other news my Wii age has gone down 9 years already!! I'm rockin' the yoga! Hugs, -
 MY chicken? Dry?? WHAT!!?? Okay, yea, it was really dry. Hubby was late coming home for dinner, and it just sat and dried up. I bet I was eating too fast, like you said. (I was super hungry!!) Thanks for solving my mystery girl!!! Hugs,

Every doctor is different. I had my surgery on Feb 16th. (My first fill isn't until next week) I am back on regular food now. I eat very small portions, about every 3 -4 hours. Which means I eat 4 -5 times a day. A yogurt, an orange & a granola bar, 2 slices of low-fat ham w/ a slice of cheese. Each of these is a meal for me. The 100-calorie snack packs are helpful as well. I really enjoy the granola bars. The sugar free popsicles are a great, fun snack! I sip on water all day long. A protein shake a day helps me to meet my protein goals for the day. I make sure I write everything I eat down in my food journal, and exercise at least 30 mins a day. I have been able to lose about 2 lbs a week doing this. It is really slow, but it works. Just hang in there and do your best to make wise food choices. Once you have your first fill, you will be on your way to weight loss! Take care of yourself! Hugs,

Mornin' gang. Well, last night I had some chicken breast for dinner. I don't know if I got some stuck, or what, but after a few bites, I got his horrendous pain! It started on my left side and kinda crawled down my torso. It scared the snot out of me for a second. I thought I had hurt myself. But after a few minutes it went completely away. TOTALLY weird! Anyone else have this happen to them? Anyway, I am staying away from chicken for awhile. Back to ground turkey for me! Hugs,

Extreme Port Pain
shellyphaunts replied to ShelleyB's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Shelley, the shooting pain you occasionally feel is in the deep muscle tissue. That is where alot of the surgery took place, and it takes quite awhile to heal. You could have pulled an internal stitch, or the muscle itself. I did this about 6 days out, and with a little rest, it got better. My doc said this was an extremely common injury after surgery. However, the incision feeling warm is something I would definitely talk to your doc about. Good luck, let us know how you are doing!! BIG HUGS, -
My first fill is March 18th. Hugs,

Dad-gummit!! Count me in. According to the Wii Fit, I gained a pound over the weekend. I knew I was bad, I just knew it! No protein shake and bad food choices. Add that to not walking, and BAM!! Shelly am not happy!!!!:crying: Hugs,
-
I totally know what you mean. I am avoiding the base like the plague!!! I know my hubby has been telling everyone about my surgery, and I don't want to run into any of the wives. I don't think I could handle the questions and being treated like I am some side-show freak! Hugs,

Nintendo thinks I'm sexy!

I finally got my Wii Fit friday!! Whoo hoo!!! The kids played with it all weekend and LOVED it. I get it all to myself today. I can't wait till they go to school so I can jump on!! Hugs, -
Thank you Olivia. Autigerfan~ 1 to 2 pounds a week is considered healthy weight loss. The slower you lose, the less likely you are to gain it back! So, congrats, you are losing at a great rate!!! Hugs,
