  1. I feel like you're telling my story. I have not had success with the lap band. I know part if not a lot of it is my own fault because I eat things I shouldn't, but I also just feel discouraged that this hasn't given me the edge I thought it would. I don't know. Its so hard to talk about because everyone always places the blame back on you and you feel like a failure anyway so I get depressed and eat more and then gain more. Its a vicious cycle. I haven't had insurance so I haven't gone to see my surgeon and haven't had a fill in a long time. I don't know if I want one as all it does is make it difficult to eat anything it seems when I have restriction. I end up eating lots of carbs because they go down easier. They tell you to eat protein first but meat is extremely hard to get down. I am just frustrated. I think people should be a little kinder to those of us who haven't had success. Its not a one size fits all band.
  2. My band is schizophrenic. One day I can't eat anything without being stuck and pbing and vomiting, and the next I am fine. Why is this? Did something happen to the band? Did I do something to it from throwing up? I am worried because yesterday I had an omlette and home fries with no problem and then a lean cuisine flat bread sandwich for dinner. I didn't eat the whole omlette, but still, it went down fine. The flat bread sandwich was a little stuck feeling. But the day before I couldn't eat anything without feeling stuck and I vomited once. Anyone else have experiences like this? Did I puncture the band or something vomiting and now there's no restriction? I'm worried.

    Pea sized bites!!!

I've had to learn the hard way too. This is a good reminder.
  4. Thanks for posting this, I know for myself I will try anything to get unstuck!
  5. Yesterday I had an incident of food being stuck and today my stomach hurts. All I feel like eating is soup. Did the band slip or something?
  6. "How long was the food stuck? Did you Pb? When does you stomach hurt (all the time or sometime or after you eat)?" I didn't Pb, I used some papaya enzyme and it seemed to help. The food was stuck for about five minutes, not long, thank god. My stomach hurts all the time a little, like when I breathe in or cough, but also after I eat. I will call my doctor if it doesn't get better by tomorrow.
  7. Thanks for sharing, this is very helpful, I have mine in a week.

    Vile.

OMG, I can't believe some of those foods actually exist and what is more, some of them actually made me hungry!

    How long on post-op diet?

Now you have me a little paranoid too, because I am in the same boat. I am drinking mostly protein shakes, soups, and a few bits of guacamole and hummus now and then to feel like I have something a little more substantial. I feel similar to YouChutUp though and it feels like I haven't had surgery at all.
  10. On two week post op liquids, can I drink when I 'eat?' For instance, I just had a bowl of soup, is it ok to drink with that? Or does that rule kick in mostly with mushies? I know this one is going to be a tough one for me since I drink a lot while eating. Thanks in advance.
  11. Thanks everyone, it helps to have help on this road.
  12. Tomorrow, February 19th is the big day for me! I am excited!
  13. I am on my fifth day and although I am not cheating, I am thinking about food a lot. I am have food fantasies all of the time. I realize how addicted to food I am, its insane. But I am willing to do this because I know its what I need to do to get healthy and feel good about myself.

    No more favorite foods?

I am glad this was posted, I have been worried about what I could and couldn't eat. I love bread and potatoes. The point I am getting from most of these posts is that it is an individual experience.
  15. I am on day three of the nine day liquid diet and I so want to blow it and go to Burger King, but I'm not going to. I want the surgery to go well and not have the possibility of the surgeon cancelling. I am drinking chicken broth and that is helping my craving for something salty. I am sick already of the sweet shakes and jello.
  16. I can't wait to get my lap band on February 19th. I have been lurking around this forum for a while and decided to finally jump in and post. Look forward to being a part of the community.
  17. I won't miss the constant guilt and self blame everytime I eat something I shouldn't. I won't miss being terrified to try on my jeans and have them be too tight. I won't miss feeling out of place among people who are slim. I won't miss being tired all of the time.
  18. I wish you luck too. I am glad you shared your story, it helps to learn the good and the bad about this procedure. I hope things get better for you soon.
  19. Hello Bandsters, I am in Nursing school and was able to schedule surgery during the later part of a break, but will only have a few days until I have to be back in school. We are not allowed to miss much. The nurse at the bariatric center says I am cutting it too close. I think I might be able to pull off one week of recovery time. Is this enough? I really don't want to put the surgery on hold and school is non-negotiable. Thanks, Nakniwa:wink:
  20. I've never had surgery so I don't know how I'll respond. I am hoping for the best. Luckily I only have one day a week of clinical, I am hoping my clinical instructor is cool, I don't know who she is yet so I hope she's understanding about me missing a day and not lifting for the first few weeks. Sounds like you are in a tough program with three days of clinicals a week!
  21. Hi everybody, I am having my surgery on February 19th. I can't wait and am counting the days until I am banded!
  22. Thanks much, RestlessMonkey! How neat that we are both in nursing school, you can understand the pain, and I don't mean surgery, lol!

    Other People

Thanks for all of the inspiring posts, I feel a lot better. I guess the answer is to be true to myself and not care what other people say. Thanks everyone!
  25. I am having a hard time with other people saying that getting a band won't work, that all I need to do is eat right and exercise and that I am basically copping out by getting banded. Its hard not to worry that what they are saying is true. You hear horror stories of people who don't lose anything or gain everything back. I know too that a lot of the weight loss has to come from me anyway, that I have to train my head not to want to overeat all of the time, and I hope I am up to the challenge. Did any bandsters have to deal with this problem pre-surgery? What would you say to those other people now that you know more having been banded? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
