I am 47 year old mother of 3 grown children and married to my 2nd husband for 8 years. I have been overweight off and on all my life. I really gained a lot of weight after I had my 3 children and i lost weight through the years but gained it back and then some. When I divorced my 1st husband i decided to lose weight and get a tummy tuck. I kept my weight off for a few years and soon after my 2nd marriage started putting on the pounds again. I was soon over 200 lbs and for a woman only 5'2' i didn't look so good or feel so good. I knew i had to do something. I started talking to people and reading about lapband surgery. This website really helped me before and after my surgery. I decided after weighing 236 lbs I was having the surgery. I made my appointment and they called my insurance and i was told they would pay for it. I was on my way. I scheduled my appointment for the following month, you had to go through a 6 month diet program. Since it was time for my insurance to renew the first of January, i was then told my insurance wouldn't pay. I was so upset, I was determined to have this no matter what. I found the perfect option, taking a loan from my 401k but it was the best decision. I didn't have to wait the 6 months so i had them schedule my surgery. I had the surgery Feb 25, 2009 and I've lost a total of 76 pounds. I have my struggles still but I take one day at a time. I'm still working on the exercise but I never exercised in my live. Pretty much very in active all my life. Having this surgery gave me a new lease on life and I know with time, i'll break this endless circle of letting food control me. I need to eat to live, not live to eat.
Well since my surgery i have had my ups and downs. I've had my band filled and unfilled. Was throwing up and spitting up off and on, had acid reflux and heartburn from being to tight. When i got some of the fill out the acid reflux and heartburn went away. I had problems eating certain foods. On May 31 memorial day weekend went camping and ate steak and hotdogs and started to throw up. I then couldn't keep any fluid down. I went to the doctor and he took some of my fluid out. I then had an upper gi and found nothing was passing through the band, it was to tight. I waited another day and not much changed. Ended up in the emergency room, in pain and not able to keep food or water down. They admitted me and the doctor came the next day and said my band had slipped and i would have to go to surgery to fix. He took it off and moved things around and put the band back on.
I've been doing ok, but have been eating way to much. He didn't put any fluid in my band so I had no restriction. I went back in 6 weeks and he gave me a fill, still not having alot of restriction and I have gained weight. Not happy about it. I feel like my stomach is bigger. I'm hoping to get a few more cc's next month. Hopefully I will be on my way to losing again. Have to get off the weight I've gained back around 20 lbs and want to lose 30 more. I sure hope a light bulb goes on soon, not sure what I can do to get motivated again. Its a work in progress.
