They make me sooo sick too! It doesn't matter which brand. The powders are the worst for me. My Dr told me that I can drink milk, thank God. Are you at the point where you can eat high protein foods? Can you purée the hell out of some cooked beans and add broth? I'm sorry that this is happening to you. Don't feel like you're weird or the "only one" this happens to because I'm right there with ya girlfriend????

Tfarr...all of the protein shakes were making me very nauseuas and the powders made me vomit. My Dr was recommending the milk as an alternate for me because I can drink milk all day long! He told me the anecdote about the nutritionist who preferred plain old milk to protein shakes/powders. It was a simply a short story that was very appropriate for my situation. I think that when I get into the next stage of eating (I'm 7 days post op) I can very easily round out my protein with food besides shakes/powders. -

Who told you that you could have nuts!! That's awesome! My dr will NOT let me have nuts, but he did recommend drinking milk in place of the protein shake/powder mixes because they make me nauseuas. He recommends protein shakes and powders and is a great doctor aside from the not letting me have nuts situation. So unfair. -
Any surprises?

I've been a little depressed about this pain /trouble with surgery issue. I've had NUMEROUS surgeries.. No problem. 2 natural child births.. not too bad (but NOT fun) Knee surgery was awful but LATER. I thought that THIS was going to be a cake walk. SURPRISE!!! I had my sleeve on 12/2/14 and woke up rolling and crying from pain. I was this way for almost the first 36 hrs. WTH?? It. Was. Awful. I was so full of regret/remorse. I would not/could not walk. My surgeon and one of the nurses said "wait until tomorrow. It will be SO VERY MUCH BETTER". And guess what??? They were right.... But god almighty... That was tough. I did have a hiatal hernia and another hernia from my previous completely open (not very painful) hysterectomy. Also, a good friend had her surgery on the same day, and she was doing cartwheels down the hall the same day. Once again I wondered WTH!! Why am I so broken and wrong? Now I am fat AND I can't drink water ever again or eat queso. It was a hellish 36-48 hrs and I really don't think that ANYTHING would have made me feel better EXCEPT if maybe just maybe I wasn't alone with this situation. I don't want to scare anybody so I hesitated about posting this....BUT if somebody else has this experience please please here me, us yelling to you through the pain, confusion, and regret ... YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!! WE ARE HERE!! IT WILL GET BETTER!! I Promise❤️

Stretching the sleeve
scootie replied to rgrunge87's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I DID have a friend who died from bypass (not sleeve). He was 488 lbs. He died a week after bypass. He could NOT stop eating. His stomach ruptured and he died. I work at a hospital. A co-worker told me that a man had died on the previous shift because of the same scenario. Our heads tell us what to do. It's NOT a simple formula ( don't eat = lose weight). It's biologically and psychologically complex. It's so sad that WE are demonized and shamed to the extent that we are. -

My Dr told me that he had just gone to a seminar from a leading sport teams nutritionist. She STRONGLY encourages her athletes to drink/use skim or lowfat milk instead of protein shakes. She said that the protein in 1 cup of milk would be 100% utilized, whereas a great deal of protein from shakes/powders is NOT utilized or available for the body to process. SO... He told me he's ok with me drinking 1% milk! Yea! I like milk -

I am also getting banded on the 21st. I HATE the pre op diet. I am supposed to drink 3 shakes a day and have 1 cup of green vegs and 4 oz of chicken or fish. The shakes are disgusting, but I choke them down. I am getting banded in Houston by Dr. Ahmad. Good luck to us all!!
