  1. I was also banded in Mexico by Dr. Martinez and Dr Ortiz on the 17th of December. It was a great experience and the only regret I have is that I never had it done sooner. I was also a self pay which is why I went down there.
  2. Hi, I am a 49 year old male that got the lapband on the 17th of December. Our stats arent too far apart weght wise. I started at 284 pre op and am now at 254 around 5 weeks out. I am also diabetic and have high blood pressure. I was on 2000 mg a day metformin and took 2 glipizides a day also before my surgery. Around 1 week prior to my surgery my sugar levels were in the 80's so my doc had me stop taking the glipizides. Since surgery I have only taken about half a dozen metformins. My blood sugars were and still are in the 90's in the afternoon. I have noticed since being on solid foods that they seem to be edging up some in the mornings. I dont eat anything with extra sugar in it and havent had a slice of bread since starting the pre op diet on December 1st. I believe there have been many others that have been able to stop the meds after being banded also. Maybe not as soon as myself. I read of one study where something like 80 percent of the people that got banded were completely off meds by there one year anniversary of being banded. As far as the blood pressure goes I was only taking about 1/3 of what I was pre op until here recently when again I have noticed since being on solid foods my pressure is creeping up so now am taking half the benicar I used to. I can notice my port and it is still tender once in awhile but it doesnt really bother me. I had no REAL pain after the surgery and only some minor gas issues. I can do anything I could before surgery but notice after doing a lot of bending that my port area is a little tender. I work heavy construction so there is quite a bit of bending. I was lucky enough to get 3 weeks off after my surgery for healing. scale has stalled as of late but I am not worried about it. I feel good to be down 30lbs and feel pretty good over all. As far as flying goes I dont think there will be any bother at all with that. Congrats on your decision and good luck with your upcoming surgery. It's a piece of cake.

    December Bandsters

I was banded on the 17th of December and have been on solids since the 7th. I was starved on the creamy soups stage but since I have started solids dont seem to be that hungry at all. I started eating smaller portions and they seem to keep me just as satisfied as a larger one would. I am down 31 and a half pounds since I started my pre op diet on Dec. 1st. Down 15 since surgery. The scale had stopped moving and in fact went up since starting solids but was down a couple this am. Good luck to all of us December bandsters and hang in there. It will get better.

    Feeling funny.

I was banded on the 17th of December and today was the first day I got to eat solid foods. I came in about an hour after having dinner and there was part of a ground turkey patty just laying there begging me to eat it and I guess I fell into my old habits so I just ate it too fast and it got stuck. WTH it's the first day well anyway it was uncomfortable for a few minutes and I slimed a little but finally went down. Kind of scary but it taught me a good lesson. Chew Chew Chew. I feel like such a doof.

    1 week post opp thoughts

I was banded on the 17th and I was told the only thing I could use for the first week for food was broth..Yuuuk:scared2: Anyway my point is that broth has a lot of salt in it. Lord knows it doesnt have hardly anything else but that salt will cause you to retain quite a bit of water. Youll know when it finally starts coming off. Trust me.

    Husband/wife bandsters

Update !! We got to thye Dr Ortiz clinic before noon yesterday and had our cardio and pulmonary tests done and they said how woulld you like to get it done today ? Well I was a little nervous as was my wife but we firgred hey wev'e come this far why not go ahead and get it done a day early. So much for the last supper. Put on our funky liitle gowns and took the magic tequlla pill. (Makes you drowsy) and wiithin half an hour it was a done deal BANDED:thumbup:. My wife woke right up without any vomiting like she usually does. And I woke up a little slower. You know kinda drifed in and out for a couple hours. We both feel fine now. No real pain to speak of, Little gas pain but plan to go out and do some walking soon. The entire staff and clinic itself was Exceptional. Nice people and everything was spotless and selled sterile. I would recommend the Obesity Control Clinic to anyone thinking of having this done. We both got our surgeries and air fare from Seattle for less than I could have had it done for justs one of us in Olympia So far so good. Chris

    Husband/wife bandsters

I'm so happy to hear all these success stories. My wife and I are leaving for TJ tomorrow to be banded on Thursday. We are both looking forward to going out and sharing this experience together. Both for the health and the cheaper dinners:smile:. I am just hoping I can handle the 21 day post op diet

    Surgery Thursday!!

Hi jsuarez, This is my first post on this site as well so take any of my info with a grain of salt but from what I have read if your cold isn't in your chest real bad and you don't have a fever then they will go ahead. They do a pulmonary function test prior to surgery to make sure your lungs are working good so that it will be safe for you. I am getting banded this Thursday as well :blushing: in TJ with Dr Ortiz. Good luck with your surgery, Hopefully someone else with more experience will respond soon to your question. This is what I think of the pre op diet:scared2: Chris
