Man oh man oh man - you've got my mouth watering! Nothing better than a warm cup o' chili! Guess I'll need to stew up a pot of it and go that route once I get past the clear liquid stage!

Wife and I both got a bout of really bad stomach gas last night. It's like we had to burp but simply couldn't. I stopped and picked us up some gas-x quick-dissolving strips and it took care of the immediate pain issues - I'm sure nature took care of the rest during the night (at the risk of sounding gross!). Apparently though after a phone call to the on-call nurse associated with the surgeon , this is common for the first few weeks after banding.

The wife and I got team-banded on the morning of Dec 8th. She hasn't woke up yet so I can't speak to her loss so far, but I was really shocked when I got on the scale - down to 271.2 from 279 - that's two days folks! I'm sure that it's mostly Water weight, but I have tried clear-liquid diets in the past and never seen that much drop that quickly! (not that I am complaining!) Anyhow, here's to a great start! :tt1:

Do you tell... or keep it a secret?

There's been a lot of personal drama this year that I had to unfortunately share with friends and co-workers, so, I decided this time around to only share with the closest of my friends and family. As far as work was concerned, I was having a hernia repaired, which they were completely fine with and allowed me to return to work from home as soon as I felt ready. Regarding the questions - I've been telling everyone that I am getting back into the gym and cutting back severely - which I will be and have already started. What they won't know is that I've had a little bit of help :-) -

No physical hunger, but some of the stuff that my brother-in-law has been cooking for himself (he's here helping out for the first week) has smelled darned good! Oddly enough, another craving has completely gone away - smoking. I had slowly reduced myself down to 1/2 pack a day, and then I smoked up until 4 days before the surgery and called it quits cold turkey. Smoking was all I thought about every time several times a day. Now, post banding, it doesn't even cross my mind! Go figure? Again - not complaining! I even had my friend fire up a cigarette last night on front of me just to see if it made me want one - nope! Anyhow, here's to a great start! :tt1:

Banding on Monday, Dec 8th

Wife got home at around 2pm, me at 4pm. She was able to go out for a walk not too long after getting home - me, I just now woke up. Honestly, I don't even remember getting home. All I can remember from the point of them putting the oxygen mask on me was one brief moment afterward with the nurse telling me that I got a bit rambunctious when I first came out of the anesthesia. I do also remember waking up in my bed here at the house and it feeling like I was so swollen up with gas that I could barely breathe, but after taking some really deep, slow breaths, I was fine. Anyhow, I look forward to interacting with everyone here! (I'm heading back to the rack now! LOL!) -
Greetings. My name is Jon and I am from Merritt Island, Florida. I am 36 years old and am currently 5'8" and 280lbs. When I was younger I had no issues with my weight - then again being in the Marine Corps reserves and full time with the LAPD tends to keep you active enough so that it's hard to put on weight! Since I left California and moved back to Florida I haven't been nearly as active and put on a lot of weight. Being a desk jockey doesn't help that much either, nor does working 16 hour days. Recently my position at work has changed and I am only putting in 8 hours a day, so now is the right time to take it off! Both my wife Sonya and I will be getting banded on the morning of Dec 8th - her first then me. Her brother will be staying with us for a little bit to help out. I think this is something I should have done long ago, but because of how my company set us up with Cigna, Bariatric procedures are NOT covered, so we're both going through as self-funded. We both look forward to losing all the weight we've put on throughout the years, and I personally look forward to getting even close to the weight I was back when I was in the Marine Corps :-) . I'll see everyone around the forum!

Banding on Monday, Dec 8th

My wife had been planning on it for quite a while and was rather disappointed when she had all of her ducks in a row and then found out at the last minute that our insurance wouldn't cover it. We sat back and waited a number of months to go by so that a settlement in a lawsuit would come through. Once that arrived, she asked if I was interested. Of course I said yes, so she got the ball rolling for me and now less than 1 month later from step 1 I am getting ready to have it done the same day. I've got hopefully a long life ahead of me - Monday will be day #1 of the new life! -
I can understand the jitters - not so much about the procedure itself, but the fact that I am 36 years old this is my first surgery EVER. I've never been put under - that's what is scaring me the most! Wow - I never thought that my first surgery ever would be an elective one! My wife and I BOTH have it done on Monday morning. My wife is an old pro at getting surgeries done, but for me it's a little nerve wrecking. Just the thought of not being in control, ya know? Like they said in Armageddon, it's one of those excited/scared feelings, you know, it's like 49% excited and 51% scared, or is it 51% excited and 49% scared? That's what makes it so intense is that it's confused! The only thing I can compare it to is waking up in the hotel room the day that I shipped off to boot camp - excited as can be and yet scared at the same time! Best of luck!
