    Help..Please answer if you can

I have not had that problem since the band (only a week) but I am a type 2 diabetic and the one time my blood sugar got into the 50s I felt like that. If the blood work did not show a problem what did the DR recommend. I would guess you are not getting enough protein or calories at night to carry you over till morning. I check my blood sugar before bed and as soon as I get up and it has been anywhere from 95-120. Good luck. Have the blood work results come back yet?
  2. My stomach has always been noisy and I have not noticed any changes with that execpt the extra gases from both ends of the digestive track and being a guy I don't really care much about the noises. My wife has given up complaining (after 38 years) about the noises and just puts up with it. I just excuse myself if needed (not alone).

My Port is on the move?

My port is above and to the right (body center line) of my incision, confirmed by my Dr yesterday during my post op visit. I can feel it as well as the scar tissue under each incision. I had used ice packs while in the hospital and for the first 72 hours after my operation then have been using heat to reduce the swelling and it appears to be working. Dr did not care either way and allowed it so I guess it is OK.

Do you use a scale at home???

I have a scale at home and usually weight myself every morning just to see how things are doing but I don't worry about gains or losses execpt at the Dr. office.
  5. My Dr said a month to six weeks before the first fill. But each Dr is different and each persons recovery is different so as you can image it can be different for each person.

I was drinking hot and spicy V-8 the day after surgery while on the liquid only diet and had no problems with it....

when did you return to work

I had my surgery on Wed 4 March and am back to work today Monday 9 March without any pain meds. Still gassy but I guess that will be forever. I was pretty gassy even before the surgery.
  8. I was told to not chew gum because it causes you to swallow air so it add to the air in your system to get rid of.
  9. I was banded on March 4th. It was not as bad as I thought it would be execpt that I could not pee more than 100cc so they had to put in a foley, now that hurt a bunch about 1" in and my prostrate was tight. I have not had much gas pain to speak of and could not fart till Friday mid morning but was burping all afternoon Wed. I am sore don't get me wrong in fact they were giving my morphin every two hours. The liquid hydrocodone did very little to relieve the pain but the IV morphin worked wonders. I was up walking the halls two hours after they got me to my room. I must have walked 100 laps between Wed afternoon and Thursday. I was not released till 1500 on Thursday and I don't think they would have let me go then but they needed the bed. They were not happy that the liquid hydrocodone was not working very well. They told me to alternate advil geltabs between the liquid hydrocodone doses. But here it is Saturday and I have only had two doses of liquid hydrocodone and one of advil. I have also finially had my first BM since Tuesday as well so everything is working again. The Dr had a little trouble in that a artery was in an odd location so he had to take extra time placing the Realize band. The band ended up being tight because of that from the test completed Thursday morning. I have been on long walks each day (1 mile or more) which helps a lot with everything. Thye told me I can't walk my two dogs for two weeks (90lb labs) but I have been walking along while my wife walks the dogs. Good luck to everyone I hope everyone is having as good a time with this as I have had so far. The only real problem is keeping the liquid down to only 4oz an hour like they want me to but I am trying.

  11. My blood sugar got down to 59 so I ate two small oranges to get it back up.... I could have had orange juice but none was in the house and could not drive to get some.... So yes I cheated 5 days before the scheduled surgery. I still lost 20lbs while on the liquid diet so I hope my liver is in good shape.....
  12. I was't aware of that. I will have to watch sugar and artificial sweeteners then but so far in my 8 years as a type 2 it has not had that effect on me. The liquid diet has had a large effect on lowering my blood sugar levels to the point that I have called my DR to see what drugs he wants stopped when I get the band installed tomorrow that is if my regular DR gets my lab work to the hospital in time.... All the blood was drawn last Thursday but no results yet. Hospital required blood test be with in 7 days of surgery.

    Nintendo thinks I'm sexy!

Not to begin with but I improvised till they got me one. But I elected the surgery to get rid if the CPAT because I travel so much (120-180 days a year)

    Nintendo thinks I'm sexy!

I went for the surgery to get off the CPAT about 5 years ago and it has been great. I only used it for two years but got to where my nose could not handle being so dry (almost constant nose bleeds) Day three was the worst as far a pain is concerned with that surgery, oh yea, that is what I have heard about the LAPBAND. I really enjoy my Wii fit as well, just got it last Thursday and have already added exercises to its list.

    Diabetes and lap band

My blood suger dropped to 59 on Friday evening so I had to eat a couple oranges and an apple. That has been the lowest it has been ever and I had the shakes and was a little disfunctional. I am glad my wife noticed and asked me to check my level. I am on a full liquid diet and weight loss has stalled (after a 20lb loss) and surgery is scheduled for the 4th of March. I need to call my DR and see if some of the drugs can be stopped already. I have been staying above 100 since Friday and checking two to three times a day.
  16. I have not tried the clear liquid ISOPURE drinks yet because I am not on the clear liquid part of the diet yet. I think that will only be a day or two after surgery. The taste like I said was OK with milk but I agree with Valerie when it is mixed with water.
  17. I went to GNC and am using their ISOPURE protein powder line and that appears to cover the requirements of the liquid diet as well as being low or zero carb. They also have clear liquid protein drinks from the ISOPURE line. The price is high about $45 a container of powder if a gold card member at my store. Taste has been great if mixed with milk (choc, val, cookie and cream) and fruit flavors mixed with water. Been on them for almost 2 weeks and still enjoying them (miss chewing so I use sugar free gum) Tried Unjury as well, taste was about the same and the same results with the milk and water mixes. The unflavored mises well with meat flavoring like chicken or beef.

    Just wondering ...

Wii fit exercises also try to help with the balance and posture....

    Stretch marks FROM Surgery

Walgreens has a scar oil that worked wonders on my wrist where a plate and screws were installed from my broken arm. The scar is still there but greatly reduced and is almost gone from sight.

    Realize Band Anyone?

I am scheduled for the Realize Band on Wed. 4 March. Can't wait. (but Tuesday night I might get a little worried about the surgery) For now I spend my evenings working on my 1948 Chevy P/U Hot Rod to keep my mind off the liquid diet and the surgery. I have been working on it in my garage for better than 8 years. I think it will be completed this year. New body and new truck....

    March 4th... and an intro!

Sorry to hear your date got changed!!! At least it was not anything you did but just personnal things with the DR. I am still on schedule for the 4th...
  23. I have been on NSIDS for years (all kinds for sure at different times but 800mg ibuprofen, 500mg naproxen, 2-3 aspirin all usually twice a day) since I started the liquid diet I have not taken any at all and have been getting overall muscle pains. I can exercise them out and work thru them but has anyone else had this problem. I have been not taking any of the NSIDA for better than two weeks now and today it tends to feel a little better than it has for a week. These were all for back pain thru the years. For now I am just releying in my lidocaine patches for my back pain. I hope it is just my body getting used to no pain pills at all and adjusting to that.

    Over all muscle pain

Congrats on the baby, I am sure you will enjoy the 18+ years of bring up a child, I sure did (not that my wife thought I brought much to the table on the upbringing while it was occuring) She now sees it a lot different.

    Liquid diet time

I started with one liquid meal a day for 3-4 days, then full liquid for two days, liquid for breakfast and lunch with mexican food for dinner (kind of liquid - chili) then back to just liquid for five days now and the DR. only required 10 days of liquid diet but I have my surgery scheduled for 4 March so I should have lost more than the 20lbs I have lost so far before WLS even occurs.
