I am a little over 5 months out. About a month ago I started having sever pain in my upper/right abdomen. The pain would go the my back and under my right shoulder blade. I would be nauseous, belching excessively, headache, hard to breathe and talk. All my attacks (6) lasted from 30-60 minutes, then would just go away. I thought it was just bad gas pains. On Sunday late morning another one started and lasted throughout most of the day. SO much awful, awful pain. After lots of tears, and not knowing what to do it finally went away. I did some research and the symptoms sounded like maybe my gallbladder. I had an Ultrasound yesterday. Came back today that I have gallstones, but there is no blockage and no inflammation. The nurse said they usually don't do anything if it's just gallstones (the dr. is not in and she is waiting for the covering dr. to take a look). What do I do? I am terrified of another attack. The last one took everything out of me.

Just came back from my appointment. I am scheduled to get it removed on June 2. He said if I have another attack that last longer then an hour I should go to the ER and he'll to emergency surgery. Hopefully no more attacks before surgery day or ever.

Thank you! The nurse called me a couple hours later and said the Dr. Looked at my tests and wants my gallbladder out ASAP. Going to see the surgeon tomorrow! Scared, but happy that there will be an end to that awful pain.

Week 3 post op Stall! The scale is yo-yoing.
peki31 replied to jennafah's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You lost 37 in 3 weeks? That's over 12 pounds a week. Not sure why you are discouraged. I'm 5 months out and haven't lost much more than that. My weight does go up and down. I lost 3 pounds almost a month ago and since then have been going up and down those same 3 pounds. I'm confident that eventually the stall will break and I'll start losing again. I think it's pretty normal. -

Serious question, is eating bad sometimes good?
peki31 replied to kikicoates78's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Do you have an article or anything to back this up? I don't see how this is possible. For instance I did 2 days on the pre-op diet and lost 7 pounds. Pretty sure I lost that weight from from those 2 days and not from the crap that I ate 4-6 weeks prior. Maybe eating bad will take a couple of days to catch up to you, but there is no way that it will 4-6 weeks later, unless you eat bad on a regular basis. -
I'm 5'5" (almost) my goal weight is 150 as of right now. I want to be happy with what I see in the mirror, not the number. I am thinking that even 150 might be too low for me.

Did anyone gain in their Pre-op Nutrition visits?
peki31 replied to smile121's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I gained 7 pounds in the last month before surgery. I lost the 7 pounds in the 2 day pre-op diet. My doctor did not care I gained the weight, it all happened after I quit smoking. -
Second at of preop diet...having big second thoughts about the whole thing!
peki31 replied to Rosie77's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm only about 6 weeks post-op. I was scared for surgery as well, but knew that I have given this decision a ton of thought and it was just last minute jitters. I was very lucky after surgery, in that I had no issues with anything. I could drink immediately, no pain, two tiny incisions that healed very quick and are pretty much non-existent now. Never had any issues with any foods (except a McDonalds chicken nugget of which I took off the breading and only had a tiny bite). To answer your question about eating normally. I will never eat normally again. My normal was not really normal. I look at portions that others eat now and can't believe that I ate like that too. To eat that way is really not normal. I can pretty much eat anything now, but I don't do carbs, except if veggies. I eat minimal fruits. I sometimes miss being able to eat a big cheesy slice of pizza or a cake. But that goes away. One of the best things for me about getting the surgery is the impact that it had on my family. We do not go out to each much anymore, we cook at home. My kids and DH are eating much healthier. And we have plans to be much more active as a family. I love that. -
Support...Struggling to be supportive!
peki31 replied to ButterflyMiss's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had a hard time reading it all so I'll just address a few things from my perspective. I have thought about having WLS for years. Did other diets along the way. None were successful. My DH supported me through those and never told me that I couldn't follow through. I decided to have WLS. I was overweight when we met, I was overweight when we got married and throughout our marriage. He loved me exactly like I was. The surgery was my decision for myself, he never tried to talk me out of it. The only thing he said was "if you are doing it for me, then reconsider". I was doing it for me. He asked me if I wanted him to go to appointments with me, I didn't. I wanted to do as much alone as possible. Just needed to know that if I did need him, he was there. And he was. The night before surgery, I was terrified of going in. I can't imagine how I would have felt if my DH reacted the way that you did and tried to convince me not to go through it. He is supposed to be my rock, and if he acted that way, I would have been heartbroken. It's only been almost 6 weeks since my surgery, but I won't lie, I talk about myself a lot. I tell him how much I lost, how little I ate or ask him if I look thinner. I only do this with him, no one else. It's an exciting thing for me to be losing weight and looking and feeling better. If I couldn't talk to him about it, I would feel lost. Don't push him to be involved more that he wants or needs from you. He knows what he needs to do, let him do it. -
Most people I've told have been very supportive. Those who aren't said things like why do you need to have this. My answer is always "because I want it, end of story". I don't engage anyone like this in deeper conversation about the surgery.

Does the weight loss look differently post WLS?
peki31 replied to laurenella82's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Maybe it's different from different people. The last time I was on a diet and lost weight was 4 years ago. I lost about 30 pounds and it was quite a big difference. I went from a size 18 to a 14. My waist became tiny. Unfortunately I gained it all back and an additional 15. So far I am 24 down since surgery and don't see much difference yet. My clothes are getting loose though. -
Baggy or fitted?
peki31 replied to gettinghealthymom1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Even before surgery I never wore baggy. I prefer my clothes to be fitted. I dint mean two sizes too small, just like for my clothes to hug my curves. I've always had an hourglass shape, so I'm hoping to keep it as I get smaller. -
I just saw this while goofing off at work. I am in tears laughing.

They sell Smooth Move in many stores. I bought it at Walgreen's. It has helped me one time, but not others. It is not fun. I was also sleeved almost 5 weeks ago and I am lucky if I "go" at least once a week. I spoke with my doctor and she advised to me to do a capful of Miralax every day and see if that helps.

I am just naturally warm. I was expecting to feel so cold, but nope. I'm in MD, it's cold here now. We keep our heat on 66 and I have to have the fan on at night or the window open to make it cooler. I am almost 5 weeks out and have not experienced being colder.

Hospital stay and How long were you out of work?
peki31 replied to Vikingsfan8178's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had one night in the hospital and took one week off work. I had my surgery on a Friday, so that gave me an extra weekend to rest. -
The reason they don't recommend anything but the Whey Isolate is because with the others you don't know for sure how much protein is being absorbed with other protein shakes as you do with the whey isolate. This is the only think that they were very strict with and the water.
-
I asked my nutritionist about them and she doesn't recommend them. My office recommends only Whey Protein Isolate drink and Premier Protein isn't. I tried Chocolate pre-op and hated it. I bought the vanilla post-op and it's OK, but still too sweet. It's thinner than other shakes so that's a good thing. I do have them in my fridge as a just in case. I start on regular foods in a couple days and hate all but one protein drink which I will continue to have for breakfast in the morning.

waiting for a date, how long after approval did you wait?
peki31 replied to Bruce Peter's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was scheduled a date at my 6th month visit with the surgeon. They then sent in the paperwork, I was approved 3 days later. -
Weight gain 10 D post op
peki31 replied to Marielbx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The thread is titled 10 days post-op. -
The only thing I pureed was some chili. Other than that nothing. I am 3.5 weeks out and on soft foods for 5 more days, then on to regular food. Nothing I have eaten in any stage has given me any issues. Except I hate the supersweet Protein drinks, yuck.

Is it possible it's that time of the month? My hormones are out of whack so I have no clue when it's coming. -
Comparison: VSG to C section?
peki31 replied to laurenella82's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Either I have a high tolerance for pain or I've been very lucky. I've has a T&A, cubical tunnel surgery, emergency c-section and the sleeve. I recovered very quickly from all w/o use of pain meds (they make me feel crappy). Out of the four I guess the sleeve was most uncomfortable because of the gas, but that was gone after a few days. -
My period finished exactly a week before surgery. The day after I came home I got it again. For a full 7 days. Mine is also like clockwork. At least it was. We'll see what happens now.
