  1. I was banded on 12/10 and I have transitioned from liquid post-op diet to mushie stage. Last night I started feeling pain in my left side (not the port pain) but further left of the port. This morning I have had terrible burning feeling in my stomach. It feels like it is on fire. Like terrible acid reflux, but is not coming up esophagus. Any one know what this is.
  2. I am 10 day post op and still on liquids and today I am starving so bad it is really causing physical pain. I decided to drink/eat the liquid part of french onion soup and did not measure it out, I probably ate about 2 cups of liquid in one sitting, now worried I could have damaged my pouch. Does anyone know are we supposed to be measuring how much liquid we take in at a time or since it is liquid it is just flushing straight thru?

    2 week update

Impressive. I am 10 days post op and my surgeon allows going to mushie phase at day 7 and I have decided to stick to liquids a little longer because I have no idea what "mushie" really is other than pudding, mashed potatoes - all high carb options.
  4. Thanks for the reply. I do think I ate/drank to much because know I feel bloated.
  5. this is so funny! Can't stop reading and laughing. I am 10 days post-op and not having problems passing gas, but man when I burp it is so gutteral it just kind of roll right out of my stomach out into the open. Never, ever could I have burped like this before. My husband has actually been impressed.

    Swallowing problems

I was just banded on 12/10. I have had terrible problems swallowing. Every time I try to drink something i get a terrible pain in my chest (almost like a heart attack), I feel like I have something large stuck down in my throat and I would have a difficult time breathing. Finally, yesterday my dh took me back to the surgeon and they did x-rays and another barrium swallow test and he let me and my husband watch and explained what was going on, and it turned out "my" problems is I am having esophogeal spasms. I kept thinking either something was wrong with my band, I was having a heart attack, a panic attack or something. Turns out mine is just my stupid esophagus. I am still on my liquid post op diet but he told me to only drink warm or room temperature stuff to help my esophagus relax. I have notices a huge difference in one day. I know there can also be any number other things that can cause problems, I would really recommend you INSIST you get back in to see your doctor if just for ease of mind that everything is ok.

    Lexapro 10 mg?in band

10mg lexapro and 6 days out of surgery and down 12lbs. Still taking my lexapro. I did take my pill and use a knife and cut it up into 4 pieces to help me get it down better because I have had such tight restriction after surgery. After today though, I have been terribly depressed, started crying at work - not sure if has to do with cutting up pill or surgery, or loss of food, or because this has been a terrible recovery for me (not at all what I expected, after my c-section I was up and about-no problems and this one seems to be dragging on) Good luck, I wouldn't recommend stopping taking it.
  8. Just banded 12/10. Surgery wasn't too bad but first day out was terribly painful. Not the incisions, but the gas pains were killing me. My stomach was bloated so big. Nothing I did could make me comfortable, no amount of walking, laying down, sitting. Pain meds didn't touch the gas pain. Finally dh got me so gas - x and I felt a hundred times better. For those waiting, I know on here it has been mentioned don't forget your socks, chapstick, take off your jewelry, well I am adding, make sure you stock up on gas - x. :wink2:
  9. I am five days post op. Banded 12/10. I still have terrible gass pains= at least that is what I have decided this increadible tightness under my left breast area is. As soon as i take a sip of anything I am double over in pain. I have been out on errands and taken gas - x like there is no tomorrow and it still miserable. I really was under the assumption this surgery would be a walk in the park and I should be back to normal by now, but man do I still fell like crap and have to be at work tomorrow.
  10. I am so glad I found this thread. I feel like such a light weight. I am day four out of surgery and cannot even take a sip of water without seriouse tightness in chest (I guess this is what they call restriction). I haven't had an ounce of protien, I cannot even get liquids in. I know someone else who had the surgery and she was eating mushies at day 3. I cannot even eat two spoonfulls of jello without feeling backed up. I know I should be thankful, but at same time, my lower stomach is growling and has terrible hunger pains, but I just can't seem to get anything down to it. What the Heck??????? Why is there such a difference between people?
  11. I know two people who have had the band. One has had the band over year, lost maximum weight - a little over a 100lbs and you still have to push around to find their port. The second person just started the process, has only lost about 60lbs and still needs to lose abut 80 more but their port is bulging out under their skin. Why is it so different. It would seem the one who lost all the weight would have that problem not the other way around.
  12. bethm, My surgeon made me watch a training video from Australia of the surgery being performed during my consultation and it clearly states the surgeon stands between the patients legs. However, the entire lower half was covered up with blue gowns, the top half was covered up, the only thing exposed was the stomach. Course my surgeon is old, so I am not worried about that part, but I did see all the posts with all the people on here with complications and those that had their bands removed and after being so excited over all this, I started getting really scared. I have one day left. Surgery is this Wed. 12/10. Good luck to us.

    December bandsters

I am being banded on Wednesday. I was so pumped about this with no hesitation, then went to the link on the left of complications and the link for the support group for people who have had their bands removed and, wow, for the first time, I am starting to get scared. I did tons of research before, and I know there can be complications and I know this does not work for everyone, but I want it to work for me so bad. I don't want to come back in a year and be the one on the support group for those that had to have theirs removed. I am on day six on liquid pre- op diet, have not cheated until now. I stress eat and went and ate a chocolate chip cookie. Now I feel even worse......

    Psych Eval

The consult with the doc wasn't that bad it was about 45 minutes but the s the 450 question test that I had to take afterwards sucked. That took forever. It was the same questions over and over, just rewarded.
  15. I am on day four. It is a little better today. The first day I thought I was going to resort to cannibalism, I wanted to eat my own arm. Mine is not nearly at strict, just need to drink two protein shakes a day any brand, broth and am allowed cream soups. I think it goes by your BMI but am not sure. Mine is 40. My surgery is next Wed. Only four more days to go and I cannot wait.
  16. I just had my consultation and am scheduled for my surgery for next wed 101 Dec and just found out that the surgeon will not give the first fill until after 12 weeks after surgery? That is three months...That just sounds way too long to wait. Anyone else had a surgeon make them wait this long?:cursing:

    Any December '08 Bandsters?

Yipeee!!! I have been lurking around for months but never joined this site because I didn't want to jinx myself. For the last six months I have been jumping thru Aetna's hoops to get this surgery. I NOW have my date. I am getting banded 10 December. I started my pre-op diet today. I am just giddy with excitement. Good luck to all of us. This time next year, we will all be healthy hotties. :smile2:
