  1. Happy 54th Birthday lindade!

  2. Has anyone used Maximum Greens for more nutrients after getting banded? the protein is great but I'm wondering if I shoud be getting better all around nutrition. I just have 4 more days on post surg liquids before I go to mushies next week.
  3. I got optifast from my doctor but I really like eas carb advantage because they are so much cheaper and taste fine (from walmart). I lost 15 lbs on just those and jello the 2 weeks before my surgery. I'm 1 1/2 weeks post op and could not take one more sweet protein drink so I got Any Whey at GNC I've been putting it in broth and it's been great to have soup instead of a sweet shake. Never thought I'd be sick to death of chocolate and vanilla. hope that helps.
  4. Any one know which non flavored protein powder does best when added to warm food like soup or broth?
  5. Yes thanks I am walikig a lot, taking gas ex, tums. milk of mag and ultram just to sleep. Thats wonderful that your surgeon removes as much as possible that has to help.
  6. look up shoulder pain following laparoscopy and www.hcgresources.com/shoulderpain.html you'll find an article by Dr. Larry Demco "a renonowned Laparascopic pioneer" You can also go to link on "How can Laparoscopy be less painful?". It talks about how the CO 2 gas irritates the diaphragmatic nerves causing the pain and that there are ways to prevent it. I don't believe everything on I find online but this looks like a credible medical resource.
  7. My surg was the 25th and the shoulder pain has been horrible!! no pain in my stomach at all. ice pain meds massage and walking help enough to help me sleep.. What annoys me most is that i did some reading on laproscopic surgery and shoulder pain turns out that research shows it can be prevented IF the surgeon removes the CO 2 they use to inflate your abdomen or IF they heat and hydrate the CO 2 when they insert it. they're also starting to use internal mechanical lifting instead of co 2. it's too late for us but please ask your dr.s why they don't do these things to decrease our pain and suffering. i will never undergo abdominal laproscopic surgery again without specifically finding a surgeon who is willing to do one of those seemingly simple things to prevent this kind of agony. if you know anyone considering lap band please encourage them to advocate that the surgeon remove the CO2, it can cause damage to the cells which is why it's taking some of you longer for the pain to go away.
  8. Hi I'm new to this form of communicating but so releived to find you. I got my band on the 25th too and have been feeling like the rest of you- just almost human again today. I was expecting this to be much easier. I have yet to get all my water and protein down. today I used two scoops of powder to 8oz of water just for the nutrition and i'm hoping for more energy. i've discovered quick disolve tums they really helped my chest pain and burning the first 3 days, i plan to keep some with me at all times. they're like a little powdered candy. i still have a lot of fear of failing and really want to do everything right to make this work over the long run. i dropped 16 pounds on the pre surg liquids but have stayed the same since the surgery i'm thinking it's because i'm not getting enough calories. has anyone else had the weight loss stop so soon?

    Odd Side Effects?

Me too! I was banded on 11-25-08 and my entire thermostat seems off. I'm either freezing or burning up so your not alone. hopefully it will pass as our bodies adjust.
  10. I just had my lap band put in on Nov. 25 relatively easy right? Ok I was told I would have shoulder pain for "a couple of days" 5 days out I'm still on pain meds for my shoulder it is agonizing. No biggie, it should pass. but now I'm a little ticked because I've been researching shoulder pain and Laproscopic surgery- turns out new research shows that they can AVOID it yes AVOID it by removing the CO 2, or heating and humidifying the CO 2. How hard would that have been to save my 5 (and counting) days of agony? ( apparently this causes cellular damage so I just hope it goes away) My suggestion: every patient considering laproscopic surgery should request their Dr. do something to avoid this problem ( either remove or heat and humidify the CO 2) and maybe it will become a standard and become easier for all future lap band patients.
  11. Just got my lap band on 11-25-08 Any tips to help with pain in my shoulder? it really hurts!!! I heard it was from the gas they used to inflate my abdomen

  12. Hang in there, I got my band on the 25th of Nov. and am still recovering. I had to be on the liquids for 2 weeks I used the Edge carb advantage Protein Drinks because they were bigger and more filling also had lots of broth and tea. When I was starving I made Jello added about a cup of extra cold Water and drank it down and it was very filling. I'm proud to say that in 2 weeks my only cheat was eating 1/4 of a sauteed mushroom. Recovery has been a little harder than I expected, I stayed on phenegren and pain pills for about 3 days, I was able to eat some Soup yesterday. The worst part for me has been the shoulder pain I don't know what causes it. they say it is normal it hurts way more than my stomach. I'm feeling almost normal again and plan to go back to my sedentary job on Tuesday. Good luck with your procedure
