Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Looking for Mentor/banded 2 months!
tamthetex posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey I love the idea of someone who has walked through where I am to talk with. I was banded on Nov. 20th and am doing "all right" I have lost 41 pounds since surgery, but feel like most of it is from sheer will power. I know that I eat a lot less than I did before surgery, but most of the time feel it is from choosing to stop. Something I could not do before. I for sure can and do eat more than one cup of food at a meal. I go for my second fill on Thursday. Anyways, enough for now. I look forward to connecting with someone who can answer questions and give the hard advice! -
Red square shaped rash around incisions??
tamthetex replied to twiggysmiff's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same problem, only mine were like burns with blisters and everything. It was a lot of horrible itching. The only thing that worked was taking the bandages off and pulling up my shirt and letting air get to the rash/burns. For some people itch cream worked but for me liquid benadryl was the only thing that helped. Good luck! -
How are the banded Notorious Novembers???

I actually went to a trainer this week, I have a total of 10 sessions with him. Anyways, he said that even at my weight I need to be doing at LEAST 30 Minutes of cardio. It takes that long to get to the place where you are burning fat. Also he had me do a cardio test so that I know what my heart rate should be during that 30 minutes. Each of us is different. You might check to see if there is a gym near and invest in one training session so you can get those goals. He is also having me do weight training, right after the cardio inorder to keep my heart rate up longer, and burn more fat!! Good luck! -

How are the banded Notorious Novembers???

Hi Everyone! Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I travel a lot for my job and life has been crazy. I've spent the last hour reading and catching up on where everyone is and how the November Bandsters are doing!! I had my first fill this week and things are going really good. I don't have super tight restriction but my eating is definitely been so much less! I am eating my protein first and so forth. I do have one question. I have heard that when you have good restriction you are not able to eat in the mornings, like breakfast time. I am able to eat, basically as soon as I get up. Do you think I don't have good restriction? I had 2.8cc in band at surgery and then had 1.8cc put in at my fill. I don't feel super restricted but do feel full after eating not much!! I don't weigh my food but I eat a small piece of chicken or fish, or maybe 2 eggs for breakfast and so forth. I love all the advice I get on this site! Good luck everyone!! Surgery date: Nov. 20 Weight at surgery: 280 Current weight: 249 ps I still can't figure out how to the weight ticker on my profile. LOL -
how do you deal with temptation?
tamthetex replied to amberd910's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree, we got the surgery to help us with portion control, not to always be denying ourselves. I would suggest putting a couple of bites of what you want on a plate and then MOVE AWAY from the food table! It is very dangerous to stand near the food table! Then keep yourself busy with the party! I did this at Christmas parties and it was great. I got to have a little bit, didn't feel deprived and didn't feel guilty!! You can do it!! As far I could tell, it was gas pain. I had it for about a week, on and off, not all the time. As most people say the more you walk the faster the gas will go! Good luck

This post is such a revelation for me! I have not been too secretive about my surgery, banded on Nov. 20th. I don't live near any of my family but when they saw me at Christmas, down 25 pounds they were all very encouraging and supportive. However, my closest friends whom I work with day in and day out couldn't be less interested. I don't talk about my surgery or weight loss unless they bring it up. Both of my good friends started weight watchers while I was preparing to do my surgery, neither of them more than about 20lbs over weight. And they have both done great losing weight and meet their goals. They constantly praise one another, share recipes and talk about what they are doing that works. But if I chime in it's like the conversation completely dies. I feel like they are looking at me like I am cheating. And every time we eat, we usually have at least one meal together a day. They will comment like, oh don't something stuck, or aren't you full yet? It's hard but I feel like they are jealous!! They are neither one over weight at all. Can't people be happy we are at least doing something about our weight and health!! Keep up the good work everyone!! One day closer to the new me!!

Sorry Kutach I just had my post op visit with my Dr. yesterday and asked him specifically about beer! He said NO WAY! It's the carbonation, like everyone else said. He said wine or other stuff, ok, but just watch the calories!! Have fun at your party!!

How are the banded Notorious Novembers???
tamthetex replied to mljalways's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Princes070 Well my Dr. did put some Fluid in my band at surgery, not exactly sure how much. Then he said to schedule my first fill between 3 to 4 weeks. So tomorrow will be like 3 1/2 weeks since surgery. I am amazed at all the different things the Dr.'s do. For instance my Dr. has his patients coming in for fill once a month, every month for the first 6 months post surgery. He says he feels like this give the patient a better chance at success. I will let you guys know how it goes tomorrow. Like I have said I haven't had any trouble with hunger or even what I'm eating. I am eating some soft chicken and so forth but haven't fully transitioned. -

Hey guys Well i have my first fill in the morning!! I am nervous, I'm not really crazy about needles! But I am excited to get my first fill and then hopefully I will be able to transitions to meat and other regular food. I know that I am having way too many carbs, but that is the easiest thing to eat while on the mushy phase! I will let you all know how my fill goes! -

I am very excited and nervous. I go for my first fill on Tuesday! I had my surgery on Nov. 20th and I think I am doing really well. I have lost 20 pounds post surgery. Just this last week I started feeling hungry between meals. I am still on mushy foods and to be honest am nervous about moving to solids. I am afraid of getting sick, or getting something stuck! What is a good meat to try first, one that hardly anyone has trouble with? Keep up the good work!! -
Ok I no longer feel like a crazy person! I had the rash, the itching, the blistering the whole nine yards! I called my Dr. and they said maybe I was allergic to the strips and on day 7 post op they said to take the steri strips off. Once I did that it started to heal up. The blisters dried up and the skin starting pealing. I still itch some and my stomach is discolored but only where the strips where. You should definetly ask your Dr. how soon you can get the strips off because nothing else helped me. Good Luck!!:tt1:

HI Everyone! I was banded on Nov. 20th and things have been going great. I have lost 20 pounds since my surgery. I had very little pain post op and everything has been going great. Then today I had this severe pain in my stomach, near my port area and it has lasted all day. Even causing some back pain on the same side. Can anyone help me with what this might be? I did pick up a case of water at the store and did a few other things around the house. I am hoping I just over did it a little and things will be back on track tomorrow. Any advice would be very welcome!! I am trying to get one of the tickers on my signature any advice would be great!! Keep going we can do it!!:tt1: -
When does bandster HELL set in
tamthetex replied to motivated's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on Nov. 20th and had not been hungry at all. I could barely get in all me liquids in the day. I started on mushy foods last week and doing great. Just today I starting feeling hungry. But it was like I would eat and then about 4 to 5 hours later I would start to get hungry. I haven't really been too discouraged because I am not eating much at all and so getting hungry 4 or 5 hours later seems like it would be normal. Is this right? Or am I crazy? I go for a fill on Dec. 16th and I think I can probably survive until then. Good Luck!! -

I was also banded on Nov. 20th. I stopped drinking Dr. Pepper and sodas, but was really not able to completely cut out the coffee. So I do recommend that you call your Dr. Mine was fine with me having a cup or two of coffee a day, as long as I don't add sugar or cream! I am just now starting to get hungry again! Good Luck!! -
I am so excited to read this! I was banded on Nov. 20th and for some reason thought I would NEVER get to eat Popcorn again! I love popcorn and once I go for my follow up visit and first fill I will try it, in moderation! Thank you for the information!!

I have had my surgery, on Nov. 20th. I have lost 13 pounds. I don't have just protein shakes, per say. I usually make mine in a smoothie with fresh fruit, lowfat yogurt, and orange juice for sweetner. Because I am on the mushy phase, so I am now having potatoes, mushy vegetables and so forth. -
How are the banded Notorious Novembers???
tamthetex replied to mljalways's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been banded for 12 days and things are going great! It is so weird how the Dr.s have us all doing different things. I was on clear liquids and 3 myocel shakes a day for the first 10 days, then yesterday I went onto mushy foods, like soups, mashed potatoes, eggs, etc.. I left the hospital with fluid already in my band and I go for my first fill on Dec. 16th. Did anyone else leave the hospital with fluid in their band? I look forward to talking to you all and seeing everyone's success!!:cursing: -

I am newly banded since Nov. 20th and all though I have not been hungry at all, I am drinking the shakes with protein in them and also now adding mushy foods to my diet. However all my friends keep expressing concern over how little I eat, saying it can't be healthy and that this seems very unhealthy for me. I am also taking a multi vitamin daily. Am I getting enough nutrition? And what can I say to my friends who are constantly expressing concern over the small amounts I am eating? I feel great and have energy!:cursing: -
Hi I was banded on Nov. 20th, I know one week before Thanksgiving! My surgeon was Dr. B. in Dallas and he is amazing. So far everything is going GREAT! I have not been sick or in pain. I did have an allergic reaction to the bandages so I itched like crazy but that has almost completely cleared up. I started adding mushy foods to my diet yesterday and it's been a nice change of pace. I still have not felt hungry at all, I think that is a miracle! I look forward to getting to know others walking through this amazing journey! Tammy
