Hi everyone. I have a huge weightloss goal before me. I have about 275 pounds to lose. :scared2:That would put me at about 150 when all is said and done. I figured I would adjust that goal when I get closer. I have not weighed 150 since about the 5th or 6th grade, if I remember correctly. My first driver's license back in 1985 said 220 and I remember lying about my weight back then.:grouphug: My husband of 11 years is very supportive of my decision to be banded. My whole family is supportive. None of them have been where I am right now and that is why I am on this board. I need the support of people who have been banded and have gone through what i am going through.

Janurary 20th!!!! Band Time!
newlifebegins2017 replied to Nikkisix's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My surgery went very well. I was up and about just as soon as that darn catheter was removed. I had lost 24 pounds on my pre-op diet. I had 4 weeks of it so I'm glad I lost some. I am six days out now and still a bit sore but usually only when I forget and bend over and try to pick something up off the floor. Other than that, I am doing 100%. I am on day 3 of my full liquids stage of diet. It's interesting to say the least. Things taste just like they are supposed to but the look and the texture sure are different. I hope everyone else is doing great after their surgeries. -
I had my surgery on Tuesday of last week, Jan 22nd. Everything is going pretty well. I keep forgetting that I can't bend over without pain. Other than that, I am pretty much back to normal. Oh, and I can't sleep on my left side (where my port is). My incisions are healing up quickly and as long as I don't bend over to pick something up, I am pain free. Prior to surgery I have lost 35 pounds. I have not weighed in since surgery. I think I am going to wait until next week. That will be two weeks after surgery. I know I have lost, I can feel it. So that is great.

January bandsters our time is coming!!!
newlifebegins2017 replied to KawasakiChick's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My date is coming up quickly. At one point I thought January 20th would never get here but now it's just around the corner. I am currently finishing week 2 of a liver shrinking diet. I have to be on it for 4 weeks due to my BMI being so high. The pre-op diet is not as hard as I thought it might be. It's just boring. Not enough options for food. I did lose 12 pounds in my first week though. I will weigh in again tomorrow just to see how this week went. -

Thanks Florida Pete. I did a lot of research on my own but it sure helps that people I know have dealt with the same doctor. -
Dr. Pedro Kuri and Hospital Angeles (Tijuana Mexico)
newlifebegins2017 replied to Florida Pete's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I am being banded by Dr. Kuri on 1/20/09 and he came highly recommended by some of my family members. It is good to know that others think so highly of him as well. -
I have been on my pre-op diet now for almost two weeks. I'll weigh again on Monday. I lost 12 pounds in my first week. I could hardly believe it. I am wondering how I have done this week. I am sure not as much weight this week but any loss is a good loss. I have been getting my packing list ready for my trip. We are going on a road trip in order to get to the hospital for the surgery. I am being banded in Mexico and we (me, my husband, my sister and my BIL) are driving there. It's going to be one heck of a road trip from Missouri to California and then into Mexico. My BIL is being banded the same day. It is very cool to have someone so close to me sharing in this journey.

Hey there! My pre op diet starts in 10 days. I will be on protein shakes and bars for breakfast and lunch and a solid protein meal for supper. I can have a maximum of 50 grams of carbs a day, 10 grams from my solid food portion of the diet and 40 grams from the shakes and bars.
Hope this helps some. I have purchased several different protein powders and some bars. I am hoping to keep it from getting boring.
Good luck to you on your diet. Keep me posted.

Surgery in Mexico?
newlifebegins2017 replied to 2big's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too am going to be banded in Mexico with Dr. Kuri on January 20th. I have a cousin and his wife who have had their surgeries with Dr. Kuri in the past. They have nothing but good things to say about the experience. They are the reason that I am so at ease with my decision to go to Mexico. They say the hospital and staff are great. They didn't have a single problem. Pete, it's funny but my cousin said the same thing about the hotel. LOL -
Got My Surgery Date! 1/12/09! Any Other January 09's out there?
newlifebegins2017 replied to 2boys3cats's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
January 20th for me. I'm self-pay and I'm going to Mexico to get it done. It will be the best thing I've ever done with my life. Well, except for marrying my best friend. -
What about long distance post op?
newlifebegins2017 replied to msj1965's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well, I am getting banded in Mexico but I have found a local doctor to do my fills so I won't have to return to Mexico unless I just want to. You might do some research on the local fill places and see if Mexico is an option for you. -
Anyone getting banded in January
newlifebegins2017 replied to Peanutband's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Wow The January calendar is filling up quickly. My pre-op diet starts on the 21st. It's gonna be a long four weeks but I will make it through it. We leave out of here on the 16th to drive to Mexico for the sugery. My brother in law is having the surgery the same day. My husband and my sister is going with us for support. It's going to be a crazy road trip, that's for sure. I'm excited about it. -

New Year Hotties sounds good to me. I can't wait to be a hottie again. I think I used to be one, a long time ago. Now ask my husband and he'll tell you that I'm still a hottie. Bless his heart. LOL I am so glad that there are so many of us. This is going to be an awesome year! -

Weight/Height/Goal/Reason
newlifebegins2017 replied to Sarah.R's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well lets see. I am 40 years old. I am 5'7" and I currently weigh 425 pounds. The sad part is that my highest weight was probably closer to 460 a couple of years ago. My goal weight is somewhere around 150. My reasons for getting the band in January? There are lots of them. First is my health. I have the onset of congestive heart failure and my knees and back hurt all the time. Then there are the reasons just for me. I'm not a vain person but I would love to be able to wear a nice looking pair of jeans and actually look good in them. I want to be able to go dancing and hiking again. I haven't been to a movie theatre or any type of show with theatre seating in over 8 years. I'd love to go see a movie. I could go on and on but I think you all probably get the idea. I just want to live again. I feel like I'm missing a lot due to my weight. I too have a husband who doesn't see my weight and loves me for me. I'm blessed in that area. -

Hello from Missouri
newlifebegins2017 replied to momnmizzou's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats on your surgery. I am from Missouri as well and I am getting my band on January 20th. I wouldn't have waited so long but I'm in blackout period at work (no extra time off allowed). I can't wait to get to the point where I no longer hate the scale. That will be so great. Congrats on that weight loss so far. -
Thanks Jack. Those statements are quite motivating. I think I'm going to print them off and put them on my computer and in my weight loss journal if you don't mind.

newlifebegins2017 replied to MrsFlipFlops's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I know that my friends and family have no idea how much I weigh. I think that after I am banded, I am not going to tell anyone where I started until after I get where I am going. Well, I'll tell you guys but no one I deal with in person. I just don't think that people can grasp the weight issue unless they've been there. -
Thanks for the reply Jenny. I am like you. I think I will break it down into smaller goals. That 275 is just too big of a number for me to wrap my mind around. I can only imagine how I will feel with just 100 pounds gone. :shades_smile:I am so looking forward to that! We will get it done!

Anyone getting banded in January
newlifebegins2017 replied to Peanutband's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It is just around the corner. I have already been looking over my pre-op diet and getting ready to do some shopping. I also cleaned out the fridge today. I'll finish that up in the next week or two. I'm just throwing out stuff that I know I don't need to be eating. It's a start and makes me feel like I'm doing something now instead of waiting. My pre-op diet starts on December 20th. I have four weeks to do. I am not looking forward to that but it will all be good in the end. -

Excited is not even the right word for what I am feeling. I am so looking forward to not being a prisoner of my weight anymore. Life will begin again for me when the weight starts coming off. We'll get a January Bandster group going and we'll all stay in touch. I am sure we aren't the only ones.
