    missed the goal

Well i am bummed out, i get to wear the Big "L" on my forhead, i finally got the insurance to do the band this year, signed up and got approved, my insurance required me to loose 5% of my weight, so it was around 18 pounds. Even had 6 months to do it.... but i hit a roadblock and would gain back what i lost, so kind of quit trying, had gained some weight back, so i had 7 pounds to go... so i cut my calories down to 1700 a day, rode my bike for about 45 min 5 days a week, and walked for at least 40 min a day, I went in for my final weigh in, and missed it by 5 pound, even after the extra effort i only lost 2 pounds... i was told i can reapply next year.... i think i will put about 20 pounds of rocks in my pocket......before the first weigh in, and pull one out every 2 weeks for the weigh ins! so good luck to everyone else, i will still keep reading others success's mike

    missed the goal

Thanks! I wrote a letter to my insurance board, and they will not budge on there conditions, I work for the University of Washington, so it does not matter which insurance i have that they offer, they all have to have the same exact coverage... i dont think i worked out long enough to build them kind of muscles, i only did that for the last 3 weeks, before that, i was doing around 2200 calories, walking 5 to 6 days a week, and only riding my bike about twice a week, the town i live in is pretty flat, so it probably is not as hard of a work out as it sounds... but i agree i think the 1700 calories for 3 months with the walking would probably get me to the goal...

    bummed

Well i went to my seminar last thursday night, it was fantastic, it was given by the Northwest Weight loss clinic in Everett, Washington, I switched to a more expensive insurance because they said that this clinic was one of their providers.. After the seminar i went and talked to their Insurance person they had there, to see what was next, she said she was sorry but that my benefits board did not approve them (only because they said they had enough providers) i left very disappointed, but the next day called and found out who covered the surgery they said 2 hospitals, Virginia Mason and UW hospital, i had heard at the seminar that the UW has a 3 year waiting list... (havnt verified that yet) The Virginia mason hospital in seattle does not do the operation there, but in a clinic 30 miles south... so over 70 miles away form where i live, not bad for the surgery, but for the fills and emergencys that would be a long way to go... anyway, i have filed an appeal with our insurance board to go back to the cheaper insurance, ( the new one was going to cost me about $2000 more per year, but they supposidly had a better program for the Lap Band..) maybe next year...... thanks for listening... mike

    bummed

Wow, that is different than i was told... Thanks everyone for your support, i am still going to try to get into the program no matter where... i do work in seattle which is half way there, so maybe lunchtime fills would work... i do hope the surgery would be at the hospital! i got approved for the first step, now i have to do a phone interview and have my General Practioner fillout a form, which i know he will be happy to do, since he has been the one cheering me on for the longest... mike

    Unlocking Carb Addiction

This is one of my concerns, i know i am a carb addict, i am a type 2 diabetic, i know what i am not suppose to eat but still do... it would be so easy for me to eat a whole big bag of chips, or a whole package of cookies, i baked some no sugar no bakes, which of course still have sugar in them and at the whole batch in one day... bags of candies, all in one day, so on good days when i manage my carb attacks my blood sugars stay pretty good, but on those days of pure munchin... look out! it is the one thing i am concerned with after getting the band...
  9. Thanks seattle sweetie, i am assuming you are from seattle area... i live up north in marysville, i am just getting ready to start the process next month to get the lap band... and i have a fatty liver, and was wondering what to do to get it down, i heard that can be a detorent to getting the surgery... anyway, i am a type 2 diabetic, and have found over the years some great alternatives for low carb foods 1. Hood low carb milk, it has only 3 carbs i believe in it, i have found it at walmart and fredmeyer (krogers) 2. dannon low carb yogurt approx 6 carbs 3. Franz whole grain bread.. about 12 to 13 net carbs (after Fiber reduction) 4. Smuckers sugar free jelly 5 carbs 5. No sugar added peaches 6 carbs, 6. Jello sugar free jello 0 carbs 7. Jello sugar free pudding 13 carbs 8. Atkins endulge caramel chew bar about 7 net carbs also dreamfields Pasta the carbs digest different than other carbs... so they say, but it has worked for me to not spike my blood sugars also substitue sweet potatos for reg potatos mike

    diabetes

Thanks, i will ask at the seminar, i am going to on the 9th, and i didnt mention, i am type 2 for a little over 3 years now, first year i did real good lost about 80 pounds, but when i quit smoking i gained the weight back, but now i am over those hurdles, so looking forward the the lap band, and hope that it does control my diabetes better, i take 6 pills a day, and about 70 units of lantis a day, that is the one i am hoping to get off of the most.. thanks mike
  12. Hello, I have been reading for a couple of weeks now. I just switched insurance to a insurance company that is going to cover Lapband after the first of the year! i have been waiting 2 years to get some coverage YEAH! I have been overweight most of my adult life, but especially for the last 15 years. 3 years ago i was diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes, and i paniced, and got on the ball I weighed 384 and lost over 80 pounds, never got to under 300, but before long, i quit smoking and the weight started slowly coming back, I got back up to 376 pounds, right now i am down to 360 but i know i cannot do that again with out some help, Now my glucose levels are way to high, The good thing is i love to walk, so i am hoping that will help the weight come off sooner. I am chomping at the bit to call the Northwest weight loss center to get started!! thanks for listening! :grouphug: mike
