Favorite "post-band" chain restaurant?
skeeterbait8 replied to cookiebaby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You all don't have any idea how much help this topic has been. Thank you all for all the information. It is sorta like something that I knew in the back of my mind but wasn't sure where to go and what to eat. Again... thanks for all the wonderful information. -
February '09 bandsters?
skeeterbait8 replied to JayinMA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My husband, not a user here, but we will give him the name "Mr. Skeeterbait". He had his by Dr. Weiss in Hazard, KY on 2/20. He's less than a week out and doing really well with it. -
My doctor flat out said "Smoke = No surgery!" Needless to say I wanted shed of the blubber worse than I wanted to smoke. So after 34 years of smoking, the day that I heard that I layed them down. That was Jan. 5th this year. Just a few weeks ago. But now I didn't exactly do it cold turkey either. Well I did for about the first 24 hours. I went to my family doctor and got a prescription for "Chantix"! OMG talk about the wonderdrug of the century!:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: I smoked 2 packs a day for years and years and years. For the last week I've only taken ONE of my Chantix tablets! No cravings.... GO FIGURE! I may start back on the Chantix just before my surgery and for a short while after. Just to hedge my bets about making sure I stay smoke free. I'd rather live smaller and smoke free than be a smoker and look like a beached whale! I'm so glad that I quit.

Heading out from home in about 30 minutes. Checking into a motel to be there bright and early in the morning. I'm so excited for him to finally get this done. Maybe I'll have mine done in a couple weeks. I sure hope so. I'm so jealous!

12 days in 2 days till surgery
skeeterbait8 replied to gmp122002's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good Luck to both of you!! But I've got to say... 14 days liquid before surgery?? WHOA! -
After looking closely at the label on the Centrum Silver Chewables there isn't any IRON in it! The only other source of Iron (at the moment) that I can find is in liquid form that he can take is the "Geritol Liquid". He's only taken one teaspoon so far, but is really freaking out because it does have some alcohol in it. I'm saying that with such a small dose (1 tsp.) that it isn't enough to matter as long as he is getting his iron. Am I wrong? My question is two fold I guess. #1. How much Iron should a grown man have per day? #2. How do you get your Iron? He had his band done yesterday.

3 things you're going to do when you've lost enough wgt (discretion advised)

#1. Make it a point to walk in front of a certain person and then turn around and smile the biggest "crap eat'en" grin you've ever seen in your life and then just walk away. #2. Ride every ride at Dollywood, including the rollercoaster! Heck, that will be first on the list to ride! (I may be old but I'm far from dead!) #3. Buy a really GOOD fitting pair of jeans and wear the heck out of them!:tt1: -
My hubby has his done tomorrow!!!!
skeeterbait8 replied to skeeterbait8's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Oh, I know exactly what it is. A woman's body is programmed to hold onto the weight to have nurishment for child birth! BUT you would think, especially after a woman is 5 years post menopause, that it would get the darn hint that..... OH we don't need all this blubber any more! -
Chewable Vitamins?
skeeterbait8 replied to skeeterbait8's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hum.... I hadn't thought of it that way. We are both OVER 50. He's 56 and I'm 54. So maybe that isn't such a big concern then after all. I will go ahead and Monday get in touch with the office and see what they reccomend for us. But he was driving me crazy about.... THIS DOESN'T HAVE Iron in it! Lord help me... If I survive the next couple weeks it will be a miracle. There is one thing about it. IF there was anyone on this earth that will follow the doctors directions to the letter it will be him. He will drive me crazy :wink2: in the process... but he will be a model patient! -
My surgeon in the news! 1st incisionless gastric bypass in the US (not revision)

We see him at the Hazard office. But right now if it would get me in quicker I'd drive to Lexington or anywhere! -
Chewable Vitamins?
skeeterbait8 replied to skeeterbait8's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started to get those (the Flintstones). More than likely I will when it is both of us having to take them. I'm hoping that I'm 3 weeks away from getting mine done. IF not then I'm going to BUST! I'll look at our local walgreens too to see what they have. Thanks for the replies! -

That's cool! Dr. Oldham's partner Dr. Weiss was my hubbys surgeon and will be mine too. -
Oh the pain..... oh the pain of it all. It was MY idea to even go to the seminar to begin with, although yes we both needed to do something. But now darn it in a week from tomorrow he has his lap band surgery! :frown: What is funny, is that he has NO idea! He won't know till he gets home from work today that he's all set and ready to go. That is just so not fair. :crying: I think I've decided to go with the bypass. That is a good thing, but the bad thing is that I have just stopped smoking and have to wait the 6 months. I've got 1 1/2 gone with 4 1/2 months to go. Chantix is a wonder drug!!!

Hi all. I know from reading that I saw that one couple had both been through the banding. Just wondering how many other couples has done it? I'm 53 and hubby is 57. My BMI is 46+ and his is 51+, so we are both in pretty bad shape. Turning in our paper work this week. Can't wait to finally get started.
-
I'm flipping in my own mind between the two. My BMI is high enough (46-47) and my age is what worries me. I'm 54 now. The more I study on it I'm leaning toward RNY. I want it gone and I want it gone NOW! I start meeting with the doctors on Jan. 14th. I guess I'll leave a lot up to them as to which would be better for me.

What if you have a BMI of 46, age 54, have not only Medicare but Anthem BC/BS (Virginia) too? BP is creaping up, borderline Diabetic, swelling feet/ankles/legs, Asthma and other things getting out of hand. I know from the seminar that there are things that neither will pay and I think I can come up with the $$$ to handle that up front. May have to wait till tax refund time but that should finish it up. Anyone have any idea what my odds will be? I know dumb question, but I am scared that I am wanting something that may not be within my reach. With all the other bills that we have on us any extra bills are out of the question right now. So private pay is not an option.

Why Liquid diet so long before??
skeeterbait8 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello all. I've got a guestion that has come up after doing a LOT of reading on here. I've noticed that there is a period of time that most everyone has to do a "liquid diet" pre surgery. I've had surgery to remove a kidney (gave it to a friend in a transplant) and knew that I had to be cleaned out pre surgery. Why the liquid diet for so long? What purpose does it serve? -
Soda soda soda
skeeterbait8 replied to MrsFlipFlops's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Oh boy, this will be the hardest thing to do for me when the time comes. Yes I'm hooked BIG TIME. I run with one either in my hands or near me 18+ hours a day! But after reading all the comments I guess that if this means I can give up Diet Pepsi & Diet Rite, I can do anything! Seeing as how I've not even started on anything other than making up my mind to do this, I'll start trying to wean myself off of them NOW rather than wait till time that I'm told that I have to. This is going to be hard. Very hard. -

Thanks, that makes sense now. -
Ok, here goes. #1. To get rid of that fat that hangs down from my gut that sits in my lap when I sit down. #2. To be able to actually wash there and keep clean. #3. Like you said to actually be able to wipe myself after going to the bathroom without feeling like I'm going to choke myself. #4. To for once in my life time before I die be smaller than my middle sister! (She's the perfect one you know!) #5. To feel at least semi sexy for my 50+ years! #6. To be able to tie my shoes/boots without getting so out of breath. etc...... etc...... etc. There I said it!

Hello! I've made up my mind, it is time for a change
skeeterbait8 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello everyone! My name is Dianne aka skeeterbait8 and I've made up my mind that it is time for a change in my life that will be here to stay. I atteneded a seminar last week and liked what I heard. Now it is time to really get serious with putting back some extra $$ so that I can take the second step toward getting my band. I know that it will only be a tool to use, but one that will help me more than anything else has ever done. I'm now 54 years YOUNG. Married, 3 grown kids, 2 grandsons, 2 step kids and 2 step grand kids. Other than my husband and family my other great love of my life is riding my ATV. That is the one thing that I refuse to let my "size" put a stop to. My age will get me off of "Miss Kitty" before my weight does. (I ride an Arctic Cat) I'm here to vow to the world that I'm commited to doing what it takes to shed the pounds off my body before it kills me. Funny how I've found that I can ride 50-60 miles a day on an ATV but I can't walk up a flight of stairs without feeling like my lungs and heart are going to burst. If I don't make a change now my health is going to get to the point that I can't do anything. I've not gotten up the nerve to get on the scales but if I had to guess I'd say that right now, at this moment I'm in the 280 range. I'm only 5'6" so that is a lot to carry on me. I don't want to be "skinny", just healthy and fit. Well, that's a start on who I am and what I want to do. I'm glad that I've found this group.
