Is anybody out there?
TexasTerry replied to snowflake's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Snowflake, I'm sorry to hear your hubby is not supportive. But know that you have a HUGE support group here. I bet when you start losing weight and he sees how great you feel and look he will change his mind. I had my band done in the states. But I've leard lots of good reports here about the Mexico docs. Maybe someone here can explain how to do a search of the site to pull up some of those threads. I'm not too computer literate myself and tend to stumble around on it. LOL. Don't get swayed away from this - it is important to take care of yourself if anything to be there later for hubby!! Terry -
Kim, I'm only newly banded, so I don't have all the answers for you. I think for many bandsters, the band helps us not feel so hungry all the time. But remember, it is a tool and so we have to use our brains to help us make good food choices also. You will still eat the foods you love after the band - just not as much. You will still have the tastes, textures, smells, etc. that makes food enjoyable. I'm not a health care professional, but I would venture a guess that with more veggies - fiber - and the shakes - liquid, that it would cause more trips to the bathroom for you. If your not cramping I would not be real concerned, but then again, if you have any worries, never hesitate to call your doctor. Were here for ya:) This is life changing event and SO WORTH IT. So, hang in there. Let us know how you do. Terry

I too get hiccups right after I eat. So far, they are not real big loud ones! lol !!! I figured it was my new tiny tummy next to my diaphram telling me it was full and to stop it. A little annoying, but a small price to pay to a new slimmer me! Terry:)

I dunno' My band surgeon specifically said that slurpees and Sonic Limeades had carbonation and to STAY AWAY!!!!!!!! Guess I better just go get that water bottle - grumble, grumble
-
Yeah, another carbaholic here. Lots of cheese too. Chips and cheese, chips and cheese, chips and cheese. YEEESHHH, UGGHHHHHH.

I thought I was past the period thing. Last one was in January. Had my band surgery on 6/20 and guess who came to visit the next week!!! I certainly do agree with the hormones stored in fat, etc. It's pretty whacky what our bodies do sometimes.lol Terry:)

We are starting our journey tomorrow...
TexasTerry replied to diane5467's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Diane, I don't think that bandsters have a more difficult time losing weight, it's a more natural way and rate of weight loss. No malabsorption, dumping, getting sick. I did lots of research too. I think for me, this was the healthy way to go. Each person needs to decide along with good medical advice what is the best for them. I hope you and your husband the best in your journey. Terry:) -
Working on being a new person in Houston
TexasTerry replied to texasgirl1965's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Texasgirl1965, Welcome from another fellow Texan! Let us know how your progress is going. I was self pay, my insurance had an exclusion for ANYTHING obesity related. Sounds like you may have insurance that will actually help you out! lol Don't give up, whatever they say. This is a life changing event!!! Terry:) -
Leona, best wishes to you. This is probably one of those things where they are just covering all their bases, especially if your surgeon was not concerned. LEt us know the results!
-
Paula, I'm with you. Never heard of her before all the threads here. O.K. I'll go crawl back under my rock ( and live in serenity) lol Terry :grouphug:

Welcome AmyB. I think you are on the right track. Its great you have support from your parents. I wish this surgery would have been around when I was in my 20's. This will be the best money INVESTMENT you will ever make. Keep up posted on your progress. Terry:)

I think your host just didn't really give it a lot of thought. Probably didn't set out to be mean. I wouldn't get too wound up over it. Focus on how Fantastic you are going to look and feel as the weeks go by and the band starts kickin' in! Terry

Surgery tomorrow and I only have one concern...urine sample???
TexasTerry replied to housecatgirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The nurse asked me for one, cause I hadnt had a period in 6 months and she wanted to make sure I wasn't pregnant. I don't go on cue either, but apparantly the few drops were enough to determine I was not with child.lol -
This is a good question. I am newly banded and have not had a fill yet. I know as a general rule, my surgeon has said our "tummies" now hold about a 1/2 cup. Also to eat protein first and take a chewable multiviamin daily. Does your wifes surgeon have any guidelines or a nutritionist or nurse you could check with? From reading here, I think everyones experience is a little different. I'm sure you will get some more detailed responses. Hoping you have a great band journey!

My DH and I don't have any kids in the house either, but we still seem to watch more "Kiddie" movies than anything else. Paula, I'm with you on the brain programmed thing! lol HOwever, I do want to see "Dead mans chest"

Howdy Judy! I'm from West Texas and was just banded on the 20th. Wish I had the answer for you on the hormone thing and weight gain. MY PCP tried me on some hormone stuff a few years back and I put on about 10 lbs in one week! I said FORGET IT! Maybe someone else is in the know on this. Sure is frustrating. Terry
-
Welcome Sonriose! I too was banded on the 20th. There are several of us here with the same band date. wishing you a speedy recovery and a great band journey

BPM, I'm not a heath care person, but I do believe you are drapped with sterile materials, even tho' you are 'nekkid' underneath it all. It's really no big deal, but again, talk to your doc's office about it. Many lap band surgeons have Counselors or Therapist on hand too for you to talk to if needed to help answer concerns. Mari72, your hilarious, I'm still roflol about someone needing therapy 'cause they saw me 'nekkid!!!!!

Alisha, i'm wishing you the best in your search. I am self pay, but had my band done in the states. I've heard LOTS of good about the Mexico surgeons. I'm sure some of those bandsters will reply soon. I began my search in March of this year and had my surgery on June 20th. So, the wait was not very long. even those who do have to wait for some time have always said it was worth it. Best to you

I have heard that some gain after gastric bypass because they stretch their stomach pouch out. I don't know anything else about it and I am not a heath care professional - just what I've heard.

I am not SURE if I am ready for this!!!!
TexasTerry replied to JMO's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Don't be so hard on yourself. We're getting the band to help us with these things. Be patient, we're here for you. -
I was just banded on tuesday 20th. My top incisions are a good 3 inches away from where my bra band is. Right now the lower incisions are just above my waist area. I'm wondering when I lose to goal if those lower incisions (port site) are gonna be right on my waistband?!! I left the OR w/o my bra on. I didn't care then. lol - was still under the influence of too much anesthesia and I was in charge of dressing myself. I was lucky I got my shirt and pull on capris on! lol!!!Went out the back door anyway. ONly people there were hubby and the nurses. Terry

Hello to everyone! Had my surgery on Tuesday. DH and I drove about 250 miles on Monday to DFW area. Surgery went great. NO problems. Had some gas pains in my back, but they are all but gone today. Hubby drove me home on Wednesday - glad I had a pillow to pad my tummy from the seatbelt. Feeling pretty good today, just a little sore, almost no bruising. NOt taking the codein pain meds today, just some Adult liquid Tylenol. Best thing I took with me was my heating pad. Great for my aching back! I am sooooooo glad I did this. Terry :biggrin1:

My hubby and I will be leaving Monday to drive to FW area for my band surgery. I am sooooooo excited:clap2: , he is a nervous wreck:eek: . The surgery will be on Tuesday and if all goes as planned, we will drive back home on Wednesday. I have done my shopping and I believe I have the things I need. I'm making sure I take a pillow for the car ride, along with pain and nausea meds, if needed. When you hear from me again, I will be a Member of the BAND! Terry :biggrin1:
