    MS. Dover

You poor dear. I hope you get this cleared up soon. My band doc had me taking liquid antibiotics too. But after 3 days all I had was "the runs" (TMI) SO, his office nurse said they obviously were not doing me any good and to stop taking them. I luckily did not have any fever or infections. I do hope you get balanced out and feeling better! Terry:)
  2. I don't have an answer for you. I don't even have a fill yet. But WOW, you have lost 91 lbs since Sept. 95!!! That is fantastic!!!!!!!! I am only dreaming of having that kind of success. You Rock! Terry

    Hello everyone

Welcome to Lapband land. Who have you selected for your band surgeon? Terry

    not the sharpest tool today

I too am traveling with ya'll on the Hades ride down the River Styxx. My fill is not until Aug.1. I'm really trying to be good in my food choices, but I just feel like I'm eating too much. Oh first fill - hurry up and get here! Terry

    stomach or band slippage?

I was banded June 20th. Swelling probably lasted about 10 days. Since then I FEEL like I could eat anything. Again, its normal, the surgery swelling has gone down and I'm just waiting around trying to be good, food wise until I get my first fill. Your hubby is normal. Terry

This is all new to me

Dorty, Welcome, There are people here in all stages of banding and non-banding!!! It's been a great place for me to find out information and have a few good chuckles thrown in too. Terry

    Killing their daughter

food is love to some people. This dad "loves" his daughter and this is how he shows it. Yea, I know - disfunctional love. Just my .02 Terry

Infuriating Blue Cross of CA conversation

It must have been here on the Lapband site under their available avatars. I'm not too computer literate, I have no idea how to import one!!! lol Terry
  9. I'm just 3 weeks post banding. I can sort of feel the port under my skin. Mine does not stick out. The incisions are still a little tender, but doing fine. No, I can't feel the band. But, I don't have any fills yet either. I gather that most don't really feel the band, its more of a full sensation. could be different for others. Terry :scared:

Back pain or stress after weight loss?

Princess - interesting to hear you are a former police officer. I too was a police officer and resigned about 4 years ago. I teach school now. (sometimes I think I went from the frying pan to the fire! lol) I remember working detectives and carring my .45 in a shoulder holster - WOW! I ended up in the chiropracter (sp) office with a really stiff neck. Terry :scared:

    Strengh Training...YES OR NO ???

MelAnne - I like your word muscle TONING. I think many of us hear strength training and we see images of Arnold at his bulkiest. It ain't gonna happen!!! at least not to us!!! But beautiful toned muscles could happen with a consistent work routine. Let's go gals (and guys!!) :scared: Terry
  12. I don't think they mean form fitting, but more nice classy clothes. My older sister was fortunate to marry a man that could provide his wife and kids with a good substantial living. Sis is big like me, but she always looks great - hair, makeup, nails, perfume, really nice clothes. She didn't flaunt it - she is just always nicely dressed. I think it does make a difference in how you feel. Now as for me - I shop the sale rack at Wal-Mart !! lol Terry :scared:

1 surgery down 1 to go

Your band surgery will be a piece of cake compared to the knee. I've had 3 knee surgeries in the past and am just recently banded. I'll take banding anyday over knee surgery. Best wishes Terry :scared:

Infuriating Blue Cross of CA conversation

Wow, how infuriating. I've heard some real nightmares about insurance. Mine wouldn't even consider anything to do with obesity, so I was self pay. Some one else here talked about insurance people being demons with pitch forks and fire. I believe it. I think they have some trained monkeys and Orks in there somewhere too. Terry
  15. On my gosh, Tina. I want to know more about your port being sideways. The doc was still able to give you a fill? Do you have to have it repositioned? I'm newly banded, but had no fills yet. "FILL" us in on this! Terry

    My BMI is now 34

Mia your looking great. I can tell a BIG difference in your tummy on your sideways pictures! You Go Girl  Terry

Where to put the heating pad???

Put the heating pad on your shoulder. Have hubby give you a back rub too. THe recovery room nurse did this for me and it was wonderful! I would have thought the back rub would be painful, but it was heavenly. Terry

    June 2006 Band Crew

O.K. I've got my first fill appointment. It's not until August 1st. Seems like eternity, even though I'm only 2 1/2 weeks out from banding. Just being impatient I guess. I do believe what ever restriction I had from surgery is GONE! I'm not grazing , but I'm eating "regular" size portions of food. I know this waiting for a fill is about healing from the surgery and not loosing weight. Again, I'm impatient, just want it (restriction!)to get here. Terry

    Thirtysomething women, no kids?

I got married at 37. Was not real skinny, but immediately gained weight - This has been a yo-yo thing my entire life. I always suspected that my hormones were not in good balance, we never got pregnant. Yes, we could have gone to a specialist - it was just more like - if its meant to be it'll happen. I was not a spring chicken anymore either. I wish I could of had this 15 years ago. Things may have been different. Terry:)

    Band v Bypass

I had heard that those original FDA trials on the band were set up where no one had any FILLS. It was strictly where the band was initially placed and that was it. NO wonder it showed such low weight loss. Yes, later studies have shown that 3-5 years out with fills, the weight loss is about the same for bypass vs. band. I think this doc is looking at old data. But as everyone else has pointed out, you need to research MORE and be comfortable with your choice. Just my .02  Terry
  22. Ariel, I was self pay, so I didn't ask my PCP. I just researched the band and the doctors, went to some seminars and made my choice. Absolutely no regrets here!!! Terry

    Is diet soda okay?

Neddie, Everyone gets different advise, even from doctors. Mine said that slurpees had carbonation and to stay away. On a related note, I remember as a little kid my older sister liked to drink hot Dr. Pepper - I mean heated on the stove hot. It does take out the carbonation. I guess you could then pour your heated drink back over ice to cool it down. Have you tried Minute Maid diet drinks? There may be other brands too. But they have a diet lime-ade like you can get at Sonic. No carbonation either in their stuff. Just some ideas Terry

    First consultation!!!!

Congratulations! Every doc's first consult is probably a little different. I had to have previous medical records available and also met with his nutritionist and counselor. But everyone was very encouraging and friendly. Have questions ready for them if you have any. If for some reason your turned down, make sure you understand why. Is it because of insurance requirements or some type of medical problem? As for telling friends, that is a personal choice. There is a thread here on that. I think it was titled "Who did you tell". I'm not too computer literate, someone here could tell you how to find that thread. Best to you on your band journey Terry :grouphug:

    I'm new here

Dee, I'm a new bandster, so I can only give you my take on it. I am sooo glad I did this. I've heard there a few that this did not work for them, BUT I believe the great majority have had success. Remember also that many of the really successful bandsters are probably NOT on any board. They are happily living their normal weight lives. So, you will get a lot of different opinions on any bandster board. Do your research and also know that you have to put your best into it also. If that means you need extra sessions with a counselor or nutritionist to control our head hunger demons, then DO IT. No Regrets Terry :grouphug:
