Did you cheat on Pre-Op diet?!!
BgB9 replied to milton5a's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Not at all. didn't cheat on the immediate post op diet either. Wish I could say I was following the program as well now that I'm a year out. -
Wii fit plus is lot of fun, but I burn more calories faster with Active. So now I use Wii Fit to warm up and work on balance then do one of the pre-programmed workouts on Active.
-
I spent this week doing both Wii Fit Plus and Wii Active. Wii Fit has a lot more down time. Lots of balance stuff, but it takes a long time to switch between different things. To burn 250 calories, it took me twice as long on Wii Fit as EA Active. Seems like better strength and toning with the resistance band. But, there are some really fun exercises on Wii Fit. And I'm clearly Hula Hoop challenged.

Simple Poll - If you had it to do over...
BgB9 replied to LuuLuu's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Well, I'm struggling right now, but I've lost more than anything else I've done. I didn't lose but didn't gain over the holidays either. So yes, I would absolutely do it again. -
How much Wii Active makes you sweat depends on what you select and what level. The 30 day challenge at the moderate level is all I can do. My wife has tried the Wii Fit Plus obstacle course and said it was a really good workout. Difficult in fact. I'm sure I'll be motivated to try it after tonight's premier of Biggest Loser.:smile2:

Not only have I hit a plateau, but I've gained several pounds since September. I'm afraid to step on the scale since the holidays, but have a fill appointment next week. My wife and I have been caring for a newborn and I guess I've been using the baby as an excuse for not exercising - too tired after getting up in the middle of the night, have to take care of him to give my wife a break when I get home, etc. Truth is, I just stopped paying attention. I guess I got lazy after success. But it's a new year and I'm getting back on the program. Getting the right amount of protein and exercise are the 2 most important factors to weight loss with the band for me.

I love the Wii Active, much more so than the Fit. I did have to get a better resistance band though. The one that came with it didn't really give much. The Mrs. doesn't care for it, so Santa brought her the updated Fit. She wants to celebrate New Year's eve breaking it out. We'll see how it is different.

When you run to catch the bus, actually catch it and not have the driver ask if he needs to call a paramedic. When your spouse asks you to order something different because they don't like what you ordered and know they'll be having it for lunch the next day. When you can tie your shoes with them on your feet.

When you waive to a friend across the street and your watch and wedding ring fly into traffic (both were recovered unharmed).

I liked the Wii Fit, but as much as I liked that I LOVE Wii Active. It lets you vary your program quite a bit and is very encouraging. I just got it to see if I could get back on track and it really helps.

Nope, not just you. There are 2 issues eating with a band, what you eat and how. I pretty much can order appropriate foods at most places. The problem is how self conscious I am about the way I eat, especially since my last fill. I have to eat really slowly now, waiting between bites. I notice how much more slowly I am going than the others, so I tend to start speeding up. Before long, I'm excusing myself to get rid of something that is stuck.

I have to say as I approach my 1 year "bandiversary" in November, I'm very disappointed. Not in the band, but in myself. I had a personal goal of 100 pounds, but I'm not going to get there. And it is my own fault. Whatever the excuses, and we all have them, I have not done the exercise necessary to meet that goal. I do periodically eat things that are not condusive to weight loss, but exercise is the biggest problem. I know I have to make the time, but thinking and doing are different things. So, my newly banded friend, I'd say this. Follow the plan your doctor and dietician suggest. If you do what you should, you'll lose weight. If not, you won't. I've lost and I'm thrilled at that. But I haven't stuck to it as well as I should have so didn't make my goal.

My doctor wants me to use calcium citrate. My problem is that I don't want to take 6 of the minies but have a really hard time getting even half of one down. Anybody have a recommendation on a good supplement that is easy to get down?
-
I bought the Wii Active and like it a lot.
-
I was told to use calcium citrate, whichever is that. Supposedly, the acid in citrate makes the calcium more readily absorbed than the carbonate.

.5 is a lot in a 10cc band. I've had a huge difference with very small amounts. When I went for my second fill, I couldn't drink the cup of Water, so the doc took out .2 and everything was fine. It amazes me how such a tiny amount of Fluid can have such a profound impact. But everyone is different and it seems to me every fill is different. I didn't notice any restriction after my last one for 2 weeks, then suddenly I was at my sweet spot for over a month.

Thanks for this thread and all the replies. I noticed it around 5 months post op. I've used Biotin and now some horribly expensive shampoo. Was heading for the Rogaine next. I'm very careful about my protein intake, so thought maybe genetics had caught up to me. One question for those of you who had the hair loss and it stopped, did your hair grow back?

How often do you vomit/PB?
BgB9 replied to mandi78's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I read this on one of the other threads here and have tried it successfully a couple of times. I think I was told it was some type of yoga stretch. Basically, bend over backwards as far as you can with hands over your head (seated seems to work fine). It seems to open things up a bit more. I tried drinking and just had the liquid come up. I've also tried very small sips of warm liquid. And sometimes, nothing works but for it to come back up. -

Quite possible a learning curve. I'm down to once every week or two and it is almost always "user error." Most often I don't chew enough. I get in a hurry because everyone else is finished or I have some place to be and get stuck. If you are getting stuck on something that should pass easily or you are sure you're chewing everything well enough, then maybe you need a slight unfill. -
First Six Months of Lap Band: Average Weight Loss??
BgB9 replied to bwaydiva's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Wow, 82 pounds is so awesome! You can see below where I am at 7 months. I complain that I want it to be more and faster, but my doctor is not aggressive and wants it to be slow. Basically, I don't count calories or anything. I start every meal by eating the meat. Then low carb vegies and stopping. If I think I'm still hungry, I wait 10 minutes and eat more Protein. Then I walk. I started with a mile and worked up to 3. Once I hit 3, I started running. Now I run a mile and a half and walk a mile and a half. When I finish my exercise, I eat some a small amount of protein (summer sausage and cheese usually). Add to that a lot of Water every day. I have to admit slipping the last few weeks. I haven't had a fill in 2 months and am eating way too much in quantity. Going to get a fill in 2 days. -
Ditto Mim. I can't eat anything in the morning. For some reason I get inflammation during the night. dr says it may be irritation from my apnea, which is expected to improve as I lose weight. Whatever the cause, I have a cup of coffee or hot tea about an hour after I get up in the morning. 30 minutes or so after that I can eat.

Most of the chewable like Viactiv are calcium carbonate. It is a smaller molecule so you can get more of it in a smaller form. Problem is, calcium isn't that easily absorbed. It needs to be paired with an acid. So, most nutritionists associated with weight loss surgery and the doctors suggest you take calcium citrate after you've healed from your procedure. But the things are honking huge in the amount we need. See some of the suggestions above and look for calcium threads for more, as well as some suggested choices.

I'm scheduled to see the doc every 2 months and get a fill if necessary. I'd prefer more frequent, but he's not a very aggressive guy. But, he says I can come sooner if I get hungry in less than 3 hours.

Anyone want to fess up to nasty habits and try to work on them together!

Mine is those stupid bottled Frappacino's and a snickers while I'm out running errands. If I go to either the grocery store or a gas station, I mindlessly grab that. I'm trying to make sure I take the spouse with me to stop me, but she can't always be there.
