    Feb 23 Bandsters

Hi you all: I will be banded on 23 Feb in St. Joseph's Hospital in Orange, CA. I start my liquid diet on 9 Feb. I am viewing this as a blessing but am a little frightened that I will do something to screw it up. I hate being overweight and not having the energy to play with my grandkids......

  5. I am in the process now. I have a surgery date of 11 Feb. Who is your surgeon? I am one of Dr. Johnsrud's patients. Have you gone to any of the support meetings yet? I have no complaints yet with the entire process. By the way, I was told by Taylor that they want us to lose 10% of our weight before surgery but won't deny surgery if you aren't there by the time you have surgery.....I have been told by others that during the 2 weeks of liquid diet before surgery, you are sure to lose weight....

Many preop diets consist of 2 - 3 weeks of a liquid Protein diet. These powdered protiens are mixed with milk, or in my case soy milk. The powders can be purchased at Walmarts, Healthfood stores or even Costcos. Good luck with your process.
  7. Yofey..... (bad transliteration). It can be a long process. I am on the fourth month of of the process. I have a surgery fdate set for 11 Feb..... By the way, I love Israel. I conducted research in Eilat for many years....It surely has changed since I started going in the mid 80's. Toda raba.....

why did you go lapband over bipass?

I chose (suregry date is in Feb) becuase of the absorption problems that people can have with gb. To change your physiology that much just does not seem natural. So for me, lb seemed to be the best thing.
  9. Met with my doctor's office to set my surgery date. My doctor does not want me to go back to work for two weeks after surgery. Due to the nature of my job, there is no way I can miss two weeks of work. Most of work involves sitting at my desk with leading meetings for two hours twice a week. How long did you all wait to get back to work? Please note, becuase circumstances at work, I CAN NOT TAKE 2 WEEKS OFF, so please do not tell me to just go ahead and take it off. I have already arranged to just work 2 days a week. That is all I could get. Thanks.
  10. Thank you for your replies. What I may do is just go to work and not tell my doctor. Fortunately, I will only have to work 4 hours each day, two times a week during that 2 week time.
  11. Why not try St. Joseph's Bariatric Clinic in Orange, CA. I have been very satisfied with them so far. I go Monday to set my suregery date......
  12. Hello Everyone: On 1 Dec. I have an appointment to finalize the date for my labpand surgery. I am very apprehensive about all of this. There is no doubt that I need to do something. I am 100 lbs over weight. In the last 2 years I lost 60 pounds only to gain most of it back. I think to myself, I can do this on my own, but clearly I can not. I want to be around for my wife, kids, and grandchildren for many years to come. AT 100 pounds overwieght, I know I will not be. I am worried about what will happen after the surgery and when I am back on "real" food. The worry is that I was raised and eat spicy foods. Being of Mexican and East Indian descent, curry and chiles are part of my every day life. What are peoples experiences with spicy foods post surgery. I know, if it means a long life I will give up these foods...But I am already giving up coffee and diet Pepsi.....what else I am going to be doing without!!!!!!!???? Thank you for listening to me.......

    Apprehensive...No Spicy Foods???

Thank you for all the replies. It is good to know that my spicey foods might be tolerated. One thing I realized I have been doing is dwelling on those things I am suppose to give up and forgetting the benefits I will get out of doing this. I look forward to living a long healthy life with my family.
  14. I was wondering what peoples exeriences have been with spicy foods. I will be having lapband suregery in January. Being Mexican and East Indian, I was raised on spicy foods. I eat everyday soming with either curry or chiles in my food everyday. Am I to give this up for the rest of my life? I already have to give up coffee and my daily ration of diet pepsi...... Apprehensive...No Spicy Foods???

Thank you for your reply....I know Indio very well. I grew up South of you in the Imperial Valley. I will just see how it goes with the spicy foods..... I know I will have to give up somethings, but this process is very difficult to comprehend when all I can think about right now is what I have to give up.
