Mini goal by New Years Day?? Any takers??
ukcatsfan replied to Losing_It_In_Texas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The guy from indiana is in. I will set my first goal at 11 pounds by new years. This is my official 1 week mark and I weighed today since my surgery date. I have lost 3 pounds. Now that doesn't seem like a lot in a week considering I am still on full liquids, but that's still 3 pounds that I don't have to lose in the future. I want to start the new year off weighing less than 360. So let's be accountable and good luck to everyone!! -
This is my 4th day post op and I'm starting to smell myself. I don't mind it much, but the family is starting to say you stink dad. I know I can take a bath/shower for 2 days, but by now is it safe to get the incisions covered by glue wet via shower?:smile2:

What was I Thinking?
ukcatsfan replied to ukcatsfan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today is day 7 and what a difference a day makes. I'm still sore at the port incision, but for the first time in a week, I was able to drink one Protein drink completely and I didn't get nausea. I appreciate all the kind words and uplifting thoughts. Yesterday was a down day for me and I'm sure I'll have many more. I see my surgeon on Dec. 3rd for the follow up to surgery, but fortunately for me, my office is right next door to our bariatric clinic so tomorrow when I return to work, 1 I can weigh in and see what the result of 7 days on liquids has done and two talk with the bariatric coordinator for some tips on the post op diet. Thanks everyone! -
Band Cost in Indiana?
ukcatsfan replied to Policeman116's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
That's sounds about right for them. I had mine done at Ball Memorial Hospital and having it there averages around $21K -
I just was banded on 11/18 and this is my 3rd day at home on the post surgery liquid regiment. Last night as I was trying to finish my last protein drink, I got really nausea. Was the reason I got nausea because I over drank? How do you know when you hungry and suppose to eat or not?

Nausea - am I over drinking?
ukcatsfan replied to ukcatsfan's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Good call. I called my doctor again and he told me that he put a larger band in than he does for his female patients. No I know not to use a straw. Today was much better and I have not had any nausea. I think it just me getting used to the new me and understanding how my body reacts to protein, water, jello etc. I got all my fluids in today and 1 1/2 protein shake. Still struggling with the above the beltline incision hurting but it was a good day. My friends even brought over pizza for my family to eat and boy did it smell wonderful. But I wasn't tempted or hungry. Today was a great day. Thank you everyone.. -
I stink need shower
ukcatsfan replied to ukcatsfan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
ok, I took my first shower and I used plastic wrap to cover my incisions. I so afraid of them opening up and the glue getting soggy. It worked pretty well and I feel clean again. Now if I could just get the large incision above the belt line to quit hurting every time I lean forward. The other incisions including the port site is itching which tells me their healing good, but the 3 inch incision is really painful. -
skinnyjenny08 aint so skinny and 08 is almost over!!!
ukcatsfan replied to skinnyjenny08's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there Skinny Jenny. 23 pounds is awesome. Don't forget that and 2 to 3 lbs a week is all you should be losing with a 30 min. 3 X weeks exercise program. So from August to November 24 pounds to 36 pounds lost would be the expectation and you are right on money just on the low side of it. Don't get discouraged and keep on the program. Add some exercise to your schedule if it's just walking more during your work day and adding some on the weekends. You really doing great!! -
Uncomfortable feeling in chest
ukcatsfan replied to 9pdmnm5's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey KPC1030 I too had surgery on 11/18 and feeling the same lump/tightness in the chest. I think it's so cool that we have a place like this forum where we can share our feelings and struggles and there are people just like you and me who have one had surgery on the same day so we are like comparing apples to apples not oranges and also folks that are passed the point we are and we can learn from them what we should expect in the future. Good luck to you and feel free to email me kharvick29fan@comcast.net. I would love to me your online band buddy since we started this new journey on the same day. I too am really struggling with even getting one protein drink down let alone 2 or 3 in a single day. I can only drink about 5 sips of the drink and I'm full. Water is much easier to drink without getting that knot feeling in my throat/chest. -
Nausea - am I over drinking?
ukcatsfan replied to ukcatsfan's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
What you are saying makes sense. After drinking some of the Protein drink, I get what is the sensation that I need to burp and a little painful sensation similar to GERD so I must be just not able to tolerate the protein drink as well as I was thinking I could. I'm starting to feel and understand the whole full feeling. It's still a bit fuzzy for me but it's getting a bit easier to recognize the different feels in my throat/pouch area. Very helpful..... -

That's is so helpful to hear that there are people like me that are soooooo afraid of overdoing something that could make the band slip. After reading through some other threads, I've come to the conclusion that I'm no suppose to be getting more than 24 to 32 ounces of any liquid whether that be broth, Water, Protein drink, Jello etc. And most importantly like some of the others here, I think the vanilla Protein Drink is just too much for my healing stomach. Because as I respond and trying to suck down this last bit of p-drink, I find myself feeling nausea again. It's wierd that something that tasted good pre op now almost disgusts me as I sip it. -
Nausea - am I over drinking?
ukcatsfan replied to ukcatsfan's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yep that's it. Still on post op regiment of liquids and I'm getting really sick of the Protein drink taste. I need to stay positive and motivated and I keep thinking to myself, this is a new chapter in my life and the reason I chose to do this extreme step is for my wife and 21 month old daughter. I want to be able to play soccer, or basketball or run with her in the yard. And in my old 400 pound frame that just wasn't going to happen. It's also nice to know there's a whole community of people male and female experiencing exactly the same things I am at each stage of this process. -
Nausea - am I over drinking?
ukcatsfan replied to ukcatsfan's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks. I called my doctor and he thought I must have just drank too much too fast. The only other time I felt nausea was when I got up too quickly from a chair. I've tolerated the protein drinks okay today. This is lot more difficult than I expected it to be. I didn't think it was going to be easy, but I'm really having to sense how my body reacts to stuff. The when do I eat to when am I hungry is my biggest challenge at this point. I know I am suppose to eat every 4 hours, but I'm just not hungry nor does anything taste good. -
1 day post op stomach ache
ukcatsfan replied to trayrenee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 3rd day post op and the stomach ache will pass and just leave you with the incision pain. Ty Ex Strength will take care of that. The cotton mouth is a sign you are dehydrated so sip as much liquid as you can. I feel better each and every day. Those gas x cinnamon strips that dissolve in your mouth worked great for me and the stomach pain not related to the incision sites. -
Hello fellow Banded hoosiers I''m from Muncie and Dr. Stewart did my surgery and Ball Memorial Hospital. This is my 3rd day post surgery and even though I feel better each day, the ususal pain from the port site can be unbearable at times. Do you have any tips on how to get all the water and protein drinks in each day? And how do I know when I hungry and need to eat or not? That sounds so strange to me but sometimes I don't know if I'm hungry during meal times? need help....

I too am 3 days from post surgery and I'm having a difficult time getting the 60 grams of Protein in each day along with the Water. I can't figure our when I'm hungry or not. Does that sound strange to anyone else? I did lose 28 pounds on the pre op liquid regiment. How do you get all your water and Protein drinks in each day without drinking too much too quickly thus getting nausea??
