    Starving!!!

Hi All! I was banded 3 1/2 weeks ago, on Nov 26th, and all of a sudden this weekend I'm hungry and able to eat a lot more. I have not had my first fill yet, but I am wondering if any of you know if its possible that i may have stretched out my pouch this weekend. I dont think that at any one meal I have eaten more than 1 cup, but I am a bit concerned. Does anyone know anything about the stretching? Thanks!

    Weight/Height/Goal/Reason

Hi all, I'm 47, 5' 7", and my official highest weight was 249 at my first appt. But, i know i was over 250 as i'd lost a couple of lbs before going to the dr. appt. I am at 224 today, 5 days post-op, and think i'm doing good. The reason I decided to have this surgery is to avoid the medical issues that have started to creep up. I'm pre-diabetic; severe sleep apnea; severe GERD; irregular heart beat recently; and shortness of breath after only one flight of stairs. So, to hopefully avoid all of these hitting within the next couple of years as even more life threatening, my GP referred me to my surgeon to discuss the surgery. They suggested the barriatric surgery at first, but i opted for the lap band. The only problems i've had so far are: 1. i took a long time to wake up after surgery (which is normal for me, but i still scared my surgeon even though i'd told him!) and 2. constipation for a couple of days post-op, but that's gone now, too. Good luck to us all! Rhonda
  5. Jewel,

Yeah! I'm so glad you're doing well!

I havent had any dizziness, but my Dr. warned me it might happen. He said that it can be caused by low carbs. His suggestion was to drink a glass of skim milk in the morning, and one at night if necessary. So far, i've only been doing one a day, but i'm also taking my calcium citrate with D, so that could be helping!

I'm so glad you're doing well! Keep in touch and keep up the good work!

    I'm so disgusted with myself

You can do this! Remember the reasons why you wanted the surgery. Dont beat yourself up anymore, just go forward. But I would definitely let your Dr. know what youve been eating. Im not sure if it will make any difference to what he tells you, but it might. And this site, come to it often, and read the uplifting things that other bandsters write. Read some of the questions and look at the experiences and judge for yourselfwith your Drs advice what is right for you. Remember, the band is NOT a cure-all, its a tool. Its there to help us lose weight, not to lose the weight for us. I am 4 days post-op now and feel that i am one of the luckier ones. Ive had little pain, only took 3 pain pills in total, and i have been walking daily since the day after i came home. That has helped magnificently for me! Whenever i have felt some gas pains ive gotten outside and walked. Today its kinda rainy, so my daughter and i went to Kohls and walked around rather than walking outside. It was great! Both to be walking, and, to be somewhere with people around. And, as of this morning i have lost 7 lbs since my surgery 4 days ago. Amazing! For food, you may want to try cream soup, maybe with some extra broth added if that helps. Im actually getting the Proteins and the liquids in, which is also helping. I think that the walking, the liquids, and the Protein, have all helped me. I hope it will help you, too. Good luck! Im glad that you have found this website. Its truly been a Godsend for me! Rhonda
  7. Hi Jewel, how are you doing post-op? I'm 4 days post-op and doing great, i think! The gas pains in my left shoulder are about the worst complaint I have now. I was constipated at first, but I have that under control now, i hope!

Write back if you have time.

    Rhonda

  8. Hi Elkridge! I'm in Pasadena, over by Glen Burnie! It's good to hear that you and everyone else are doing well. I'm on my 3rd day post-op and actually had a great day today! Every once in a while i feel the hunger pains, pretty bad sometimes, but for the most part it's been ok. I'm drinking my protein shakes, and find that if I water down regular apple juice that's good, too. And, as much as i disliked Crystal Light before all this, it tastes pretty good now! Have a question for you or anyone else though: what about soups? Like cream soups: chicken, tomato, etc? Good luck to all!!!!! Lets keep it up! Rhonda in Pasadena
  9. Hi everyone! it's good to see lots of us November Bandsters out there sharing facts/ideas/stories. I was banded on Wednesday, the 26th, so this is my second full day from surgery. Today has been the hardest, but still not too bad. The worst is the constipation, which i'm hoping is on the way to being gone! I had my daughter get me some apple juice and benefiber, as suggested by my Dr., so we'll see how it goes. I see a lot of other Novembers have been having constipation issues, too. Any other suggestions out there for the first 2 weeks after surgery? I've seen the apricot suggestions, but i'm not on food yet. Has anyone tried prune juice? Any pros or cons for that? Thanksgiving for me wasnt too bad. I had chicken broth while everyone else had turkey, but thats about all i wanted. And the smell of the turkey cooking actually enhanced the broth for me, it didnt bother me like smells did pre-op. Keep up the good work everyone! Rhonda
  10. Ginny, I understand agree with what you said about the food. A friend's daughter was banded 3 years ago and is doing great! She just got into a size 12, down from a size 34 I think she said, and she's doing fantastic. She said the toughest thing to do is realize that food is NOT your best-friend. It's one of those friends that talk to you nicely, but whispers behind your back, and by that I mean my backside! LOL So, i've got a new best-friend now. It's me. And I have to do what's right for me! Oh! And I was banded yesterday! Yeah! And i'm on my way. I've only taken 3 pain pills, and will probably not take more. It's a relief to be on this road now. My best wishes and prayers to all that are still waiting, or have been banded! Happy Holidays to all! Rhonda
  11. Hi all! Well, tomorrow is my day! I'm off to bed and up to head to surgery. I cant wait! To those of you that may be wondering if this is really what you want to do, let me tell you about the last 2 days for me. It may help. Yesterday morning I was told that some bloodwork results had not yet been received. The blood test was to either confirm or refute a blood disorder that i have been told that i have since i was about 4 years old. Well, at 1:00pm yesterday they called the surgery off. Talk about a let down! Thats when i realized just how badly I wanted this surgery. No more doubts on my part at all!!! Not that I had many at all, but this is surgery, and it's not a decision to be taken lightly. Well, I left a message for my Dr. to call and let me know what the options were. It was the Oncologists office that called me, not the surgeons office. So, I finally got a call at about 6:00pm saying that they called the lab directly and got the results. I'm fine and the surgery is back on! What a relief! This bump in the road proved to me just how important this decision is. I can't wait to get started! So, to anyone just browsing, or trying to decide if they want the surgery, or tryng to decide if they made the right decision, i say this: imagine being told that you cant have it. How would you feel? Take care, all! and starting tomorrow I will be on a new journey to a new me!
  12. Hi Everyone! I'm seeing lots of surgeries listed for this week, so wanted to wish everyone the best! Mine is scheduled for Wednesday! 2 days and counting! I have a question for those out there either on the pre-op protein shake diet, or those that have been on it previously: Did you notice anything unusual change while you were on the diet? The reason I ask is this: My sense of smell has skyrocketed!!!!! I havent had any really bad cravings for food at all, most of the time. I can be around other people that are eating and it hasnt really bother me. But, if I smell anything relating to food, whether I can see it, or even if i'm not hungry, I become ravenous! It's only the smell that gets me, and i'm smelling a lot more, too! Just curious to see if i'm still wierd or not. I hope so! Thanks!
  13. Congrats Billy! My surgery is in 2 days, the 26th! I'm so excited for you, and me, and everyone else that is taking this giant step to get healthier! Tkl
  14. Hi Jewels, I'm so glad you replied! My husband was going to take photos the night before my surgery but I might do it tonight instead and get them out there. And my daughter is flying in to spend next week with me. She knows i'm having surgery, but not what i'm having done yet. I'm going to tell her fact-to-face. I cant wait! LOL Good luck to you, and write and let me know how your surgery goes! How did you get the tracker and 'Notorious Novembers' in your message? I'm new to the site today, and cant find it on here. Thanks!
  15. I am not available those dates, but if you change dates i'd go. Also, have you considered places such as Deadwood, SD or in FL or TX? Cheaper hotel, meal, and flight rates may be available. Thanks!
  16. To all the 'Notorious Novembers'! Congratulations! And I have joined your ranks! My surgery date is Wednesday Nov 26th! And I can't wait!!! I'm also having the moods kicking in as some others have said. But reading that it's normal, and seeing that everyone out there is pulling for everyone else, it truly is 'All for One and One for All' here, it's making such a difference to me. I can't wait to hear from more of you, and keep up with the weight loss of all of us "2008 Notorious Novembers" and read all the success stories! Mine will be right there with yours! :cursing:

    Any December '08 Bandsters?

Hi! I see this thread was started a couple of months back, but it's still very active! I just found this website today and joined immediately! My banding is set for November 26th, 2008! 6 days and counting! I am so excited and ready for this to happen! Congratulations to everyone who has or will be banded! And I look forward to keeping in touch. In just what i've read so far this morning, this site seems to be very supportive, and we, I, will need support for the tough times, and someone who can understand when a milestone is reached during the good times! Roni (aka TklMeSkinny)
