  1. Losing 1 - 2lbs per week is generally regarded as a safe rate of weight-loss. It looks like you averaged closer to 4lbs a week. I vaguely remember the pre-op materials saying losing weight too quickly can weaken your heart and cause dangerously low levels of potassium and other vitamins/minerals. Your Doc is just trying to make sure you stay healthy. You'll get rid of that last 76lbs soon enough! Don't worry!

Why do men prefer bad girls?

I disagree. I'm a "good girl" and there are things I'll do our rules I'll break while I'm in a committed relationship...but it doesn't mean I have to go around advertising it to the world like "bad girls"! That line from Ludacris' song "I want a lady in the street but a freak in the bed" is probably pretty accurate as to how most guys feel!

    tattoos

I was thinking of getting one after I reach my goal and get a tummy tuck. My port incision is about 2 inches above and an inch to the left of where my port actually is so any revisions won't matter. And if for some reason they move the port somewhere else completely, the tattoo will still have sentimental value. I was thinking about getting "Fill Here. Saliene Only" like it says "unleaded only" under the gas cap. I think it would be a fun conversation starter when I'm skinny enough to wear a bikini! If anyone has a port tattoo, post up pics!! former 'worlds fattest man' sues NHS

hmmm...If I were him, I'd be more inclined to sue the person who let me eat 20,000 calories a day! If he was housebound, who was grocery shopping and preparing all that food? Anyway, I'm glad he slimmed down from his surgery and I hope he has the motivation to keep working at it.
  5. My boyfriend was the only person who knew about my band for at least a year. It was partially b/c I was too embarrased to tell the world I needed help to stop stuffing my face, and partially b/c I was afraid the band wouldn't work for me. Over the last few months, I've started telling coworkers and friends. I switched jobs since having the band and most people can't believe it when I show them pics. I think I'm more forthcoming now because I've learned to accept my decision and I love the results. YES, I needed help. NO, I could never have lost 96lbs by myself. If anyone doesn't like it or has anything negative to say, then I don't need them in my life anyway. There are some people who I know won't be supportive and I don't plan to tell unless they direcly ask if I've had WLS. I won't lie if they ask, but I won't bring up the topic. I really just don't feel it would be productive to have a discussion with them about why I had it and how it helps people. I plan to tell my parents the next time I see them. Ironically, my mother is the person I'm most afraid to tell. She's had a weight problem her whole life too (she's like 400lbs+), so I'm not sure why she's so against WLS. She's congratulated me on my weightloss a few times, but not nearly as much as she pointed out how fat I was getting before...

    Swimsuits-- GRRRRR

+1 for Land's End! I have THIS one in the DDD version and it's amazing! The straps are adjustable and you can unhook and criss-cross them in the back for extra support. You can pick which bottom works best for you. I got the longer skirt so I can pull it up to tuck in my loose muffin skin roll... I'm 5'6" and I've lost 94 lbs. Oh, note from my boyfriend "Don't forget it makes your boobs look great too!" He's right! They're a little saggy now, but this top gives them a great shape! Janiece

    OUCH!

I'm just checking in to see if your pain went away! Janiece
  9. Janiece

    OUCH!

Have you worked out recently? Or moved boxes ior anything that involved a twisting motion? For about six months after surgery I would have pains when I did something involving too much abdominal movement. My surgeon said it was probably the stitches/sutures. Usually they were sharp, stabbing pains but they would go away almost instantly. If it continues, you should definitely go do your Doctor! Good luck! Janiece
  10. I agree somewhat that the band doesn't make my appetite go away in the way I thought it would. For me, it feels more like there's just no more room. It doesn't mean my brain doesn't want me to keep stuffing food down (and sometimes I do...and usually I regret it soonafter) but I get a very tight feeling right under my braline and I know it's time to stop eating. I've seriously cried at the dinner table because I've wanted to keep eating something b/c it was so good, but it just couldn't fit! You might need to evaluate whether you're really still hungry or if you just want more food. I still struggle with that after almost 2 years. I think you're still in "bandster hell". You might have restriction, but maybe just not enough. I remember after a fill one day it was just like "BAM! I am so full! I can't believe I've eaten so little!". Hang in there until you get enough restriction and your band can help you! Janiece

    Rewarding myself

Your rewards have to be things you actually will look forward to and enjoy. Some people buy a new outfit for every 20lbs they lose. I don't like trying on clothes, but my boyfriend bought me a gift card to the mall when I lost 75lbs and it was pretty cool trying on clothes in stores I'd been to scared to even go into before. One lady on here has a charm bracelet and she buys a charm for each milestone she reaches. I'm saving up to get a tattoo when I hit 199lbs and I'm also putting money in a savings account for plastic surgery when I reach my goal weight. I agree with Hannah about taking pictures. Take tons of pictures and measurements! You'll be glad later when you can look back and see the difference! I haven't told my parents I have a lapband yet, but I have the same problem. My mom compliments me on my weightloss and then wants to go out to a buffet for dinner. I find it easier just to go instead of arguing. I don't really consider myself on a diet and I don't eat "diet foods". For me, the lapband is more about portion control. Now I can eat 3/4 a slice of pizza and be stuffed instead of eating 3 whole slices! So if my mom bakes a cake, I'll have a few bites of a slice, then pack the rest to take home. I know my mom isn't going to change and I'm not going to stress myself out trying to make her change. Good luck! Janiece

    I AM SOOO CONSTIPATED

+1! Water intake is often overlooked. Try to drink at least 64oz of water and take 2 of the fiber tablets daily. Here's a good article about it from WebMD: http://www.webmd.com/digestive-disorders/water-a-fluid-way-to-manage-constipation Good luck!
  13. I always keep a couple of the ready-to-drink Muscle Milk Lights in the fridge. I think the chocolate and vanillas are decent and they're easy to grab on days I'm running late or if something happens at work and I know I won't get to eat lunch until later. As for powders, I use the GNC Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Gold Standard double rich chocolate powder mixed with 8oz of Hood Calorie Countdown chocolate milk and a few tablespoons of instant coffee. I add ice into my GNC blender cup & shake on my way out the door! The Hood milk is low calorie, low sugar and low carb (Here's the label), but gives the shake more chocolate flavor (and adds a little more protein) and isn't as watery as skim milk. I seriously drink this like 3 days a week. I love it! Good luck finding something that works for you!
  14. 1) I am UBER jealous! I'm at 202 and I hope to join you soon! 2) Congrats! Keep up the great work!
  15. I usually do one of two things: 1) only buy one or one serving size. If you only buy 1 candy bar or cookie, then it's all you can eat. If you buy a whole pack, the rest will be calling you until you finish them. I love that cupcakes are so popular now so I can just buy one at a shop instead of a six pack! 2) Eat really minty gum or brush your teeth after eating. If I know it's going to taste like crap, it's kinda not worth it...I'd rather wait until I can enjoy it. Good luck!

    problem with cold fluids

I've recently noticed this as well. Drinking ice Water at a restaurant guarantees I will get stuck. Drinking ice cold water by itself also makes me quite gurgley! My cubemate makes fun of me, so I try to drink hot tea first thing in the morning to loosen my band up, then I drink from a slightly chilled water bottle the rest of the day.

    How many eggs?

I eat 1 egg w/ a splash of water (to make it fluffier), a few oz of imitation krab and a diced stick of 2% cheddar cheese.
  18. Every Saturday and Sunday I make a krab and cheddar omelette w/ 1 egg, a few oz of flaked krab, a 2% cheddar cheese stick diced and a splash of Water. It is SO good I wish I had time to make it every morning! I also love those garlic or sea salt flavored bagel chips found near the deli section. I cannot eat bread so I use those bagel chips with everything! Tuna salad, cheese and ham, salmon cream cheese, or anything spreadable.

    Question about vomiting

My Dr gave me a prescription for these little chewable tablets (I can look up the name when I get home) to keep with me at all times (FOREVER) in case I get nauseous. My nurse flipped out when I casually mentioned I needed to get the prescription filled. She said that if I get a stomach virus or motion sick on a cruise or anything I needed to take the tablet immediately b/c the stomach violently contracts when you throw up and it can cause band slippage and ripping of the sutures holding the band in place.

    Where are the Leesburg Bandsters?

Hey guys! I just started a meetup group for bandsters last week. I live in Herndon, but Leesburg isn't far. Perhaps we could alternate where we have meetings. Please feel free to sign up: Lapband (or other Bariatric ) Surgery Meetup (Herndon, VA) - Meetup

Shapewear...should I wear it every day?

I used to just wear the Old Navy camis, but a few months ago I switched to wearing the Flexees fatfree tanks and they're amazing. They smooth out my back/bra fat and waist and make my clothes look great. They're not ridiculously firm like a girdle. They're nice and soft with light support. I agree with cwm that they help with being cold. It's crazy how cold I've been recently. My 150lb boyfriend is walking around the house in boxers and I have on socks, long pants and a fleece hoodie.

  23. I just created a meetup group for fellow bandsters who live in Northern Virginia. I want to meetup and talk about all the things we talk about on here -- just face-to-face. They move us through the waiting room fairly quickly at my Dr's office, so I've never had a conversation with anyone else who has a band. I believe having a local support system of other people who know what I'm feeling will be beneficial to my journey and I hope to provide the same in return. Some ideas I have for the group include: Protein drink parties, grocery shopping and clothing exchanges. Please sign up if you live nearby! 24. Smiley - yes, please sign up! I'll see where most of the members live and try to pick a central location like Tyson's corner to meet. gatlingirl - Yes, my surgeon has a support group but it's at a time I can't make regular. I plan to attend next month's and see if anyone would like to meet outside of the Dr's office too. I am definitely interested in hearing about the topics your group discusses! I'll send you an email.
  25. +1 for the dark meat unless the white meat is marinated. Also try sauces. I can scarf down saucy chicken wings, but give me a dry McDonald's chicken nugget and it will come right back up. At work I have a bottle of heinz 57, bbq sauce, and italian dressing in the fridge. If I run into some tricky chicken, I usually dip it in one and it goes down fine.
