  1. Jay - Exactly what NaNa said + additional warm fuzzies and cyber hugs. Vomiting/regurgitation should never be part of your regular banded life. Occasionally I won't chew well or eat something my band rejects, but it happens very infrequently. You should really have your next fill or unfill under fluoroscopy so you and your Dr can see exactly what's going on there. PS: we're only stern with you b/c we love you and want you do succeed!
  2. My lapband doctor gave me a bunch of the tiny, circular, dissolvable pills for nausea. I try to keep one in all of my purses because the few times I've had to use it, it's worked pretty instantly. See if you can get a prescription from him. The name has rubbed off the foil packed of the one currently in my purse... Good luck! And let us know what happens at the Dr.
  3. I touched on this a few minutes ago in another thread. I'm honest with close friends and most co workers -- people who are there daily, who see what I eat and how hard I hustle at the gym. After a few asinine comments from casual acquaintances or people I just see sporadically, I don't go into details because I feel they're just being nosy or making conversation.. They're not genuinely concerned about my journey. Unfortunately, family wasn't excluded from this either. I've had my band since Nov 2009 and I just told my parents last week. My mom probably weighs somewhere in the 350 - 400lb range, but I knew she would just be critical and not supportive. Due a recent cancer scare and some thyroid issues she's freaking with, I felt she would be more receptive. I asked for her help taking care of me this week post-arm lift and breast lift, and we've had some great convos about it! She's still not 100% on board with it, but I will say, now that I've lost 120lbs, I'm a lot more comfortable opening up and sharing my st ory than when I first got started. I was so embarrassed at the beginning, but now that all of my hard work has paid off , I'm more confident and don't care as much about others' opinions. I think I had to wait and prove to MYSELF the Lapband would work for me before I decided to start screaming it from the mountain tops! Sorry this was so lengthy! In summary: for me it depends on the audience.

    How do you answer ?

I don't really have a blanket response. I'm honest with close friends and most co workers -- people who are there daily, who see what I eat and how hard I hustle at the gym. After a few asinine comments from casual acquaintances or people I just see sporadically, I don't go into details because I feel they're just being nosy or making conversation.. They're not genuinely concerned or interested in my journey. Unfortunately, family wasn't excluded from this either. I've had my band since Nov 2009 and I just told my parents last week. My mom probably weighs somewhere in the 350 - 400lb range, but I knew she would just be critical and not supportive. Due a recent cancer scare and some thyroid issues she's dealing with, I felt she would be more receptive. I asked for her help taking care of me this week post-arm lift and breast lift, and we've had some great convos about it! She's still not 100% on board with it, but at least she's asking questions about it. Sorry this was so lengthy! In summary: for me it depends on the audience.

    Kathy goes under the knife!

I am so happy for you! I plan to purchase an inspirational bikini , once I know what my boobs look like, to help me start saving up for a thigh lift and tummy tuck! Is there anything you wish you'd known (or did/didn't do) during your recovery? Same question to Kirsten as well! Thank you both so much for sharing your journeys!
  6. Thank you Kathy! They wheeled me into prep at 9 and I was back in my hotel room around 1:30pm. I'm surprised at good I feel! I don't want to jinx it though! It kinda stings under my boobs and in my armpits a bit, but it's not bad at all. I totally lucked out and they didn't use any drains. I'm SO happy because that part creeped me out the most! I tried to go for a walk around the hotel after taking my last pain pill and I think I over-exerted myself a bit. I got really hot and everything was too bright, so my parents took me back to the room. I'm so glad they could come up for a few days and I didn't have to pay a nurse, The quotes for "home care" are outrageous! We're basically just talking, watching movies...and occasionally arguing about what time I should take which medicine again... Here are a few pics. Not much to see. lol. There is a bit of blood oozing through under both arms but the nurse said it's fine as long as it doesn't get larger.
  7. Omg, time has flown! I'll be wheeled into surgery in less than 12 hours!
  8. T-minus 7 days!!! I'm not as nervous as I expected...but I'm sure I won't get any sleep at all next Monday night! I've been reading Kathy and Kirsten's posts religiously. Thank you ladies so much for posting your journeys! Just think: this time next year, we should be mostly healed and we'll have to buy a whole new summer wardrobe! I hope to pay off this surgery and be ready for phase 2 next fall.

3 Weeks Post Op - BL & AL

I hope my boobs look as good as yours! lol. I really appreciate your updates!
  10. @ Kirsten - lol. We do look similar, so I hope my results turn out as great as yours! I'm a 36DDD now, so we'll see what I'm left with at the end! @ gowalking - yeah...this is only phase 1. The next phase will be an inner & outer thigh and butt lift. I want a tummy tuck too, but I haven't had children yet so I'm trying to put that off as long as possible!
  11. I've had my band for almost 4 years. I drink those carbonated ICE waters and beer fairly regularly. If it makes me really burpy, I just do a high pour into a glass to release some of the carbination. My Dr's motto is basically: try it and see how your body responds. There aren't really any hard rules. FWIW: You will always get conflicting advice on this site b/c there isn't a standardized set of LB rules.

  22. Do you have to stay with this surgeon? If he's not listening to you now, I'd be concerned we won't work to give you as close to the results you want as possible. For the price I'm paying now (and what I'm planning to get done in the future) I interviewed 8 surgeons before I committed. Cosmetic surgery may be routine for some people, but it's not for me. I waited to find a Dr that gave me "warm-fuzzies", listened and answered all of my crazy questions, and a front staff who was attentive and followed-up. I have surgery scheduled 8/27, so we'll see if my patience paid off!

    Kathy goes under the knife!

I'm going to feel like such a wimp in 19 days when I'm moaning about how painful my surgery was. You and Kirsten and going to make me look bad!
