Twoderville and Onederville seem far away....
jujuvee replied to Megg40's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Meg I felt the same way... But I can tell you that you will be successfull as long as you NEVER give up. I have good days and not so good days but no matter what tomorrows ALWAYS a new day and with that is a fresh start.... I have no regrets about my decision to have lapband, only wished I would have done it sooner. I am seeing parts of my body that I haven't seen in years (lol). I can eat any foods... Just smaller amounts. I've had one fill and I'm happy with my restriction, I don't count calories and I try to only weigh once a month. But to sum it up.... Life is good! Good luck and if you have any questions I'll try and help you out. -
I have a generic of spanx they are 20$ a pair and I wear them everyday.. Running, walking, working.. I got lots of skin and there's no way I could leave the house in cotton undies. I look and feel like Jaba the hut!!!! Can't wait for skin removal..... Training for my first mini marathon so I may need to put on 2 pair on race day!!!

I'm almost 1 year out and did not get my first fill untill about 8 months in. I still have good restriction and I currently have no plans on getting a fill. I can eat all foods but smaller amounts. There's no rules to when you get your first fill... Or how many you need. My surgeon said don't try to fix what's not broke.. I have lost over 100 lbs!

My cusinart immersion chops and blends the heck out of ice.. Use it everyday and it's soooo easy to clean..

I'm currently 243 lbs and work out 3 times a week and my nutritionist told me I could eat as much as 1700 calories... Now I don't count calories but have some what of an idea and that's about what I have on workout days... And I'm losing!!! She told me our bodys are like a bon fire and if we don't keep adding to the fire it will burn out!
-
Wow... You have done really well.... Maybe your calories are too low, especially if you consider your workouts.. And there's nothing wrong with eating good carbohydrates and dairy products and not just veggies and protein. I think it's possible that your body is holding on to what it has for fuel... Just my opinion...

Please be honest with me.....

10 days post op and your eating foods that will NOT promote healing.. The point of the mushies is to give your stomach a chance to heal and not churn.. And you're looking for justification and or others experiences to make you feel better... You need to call your surgeon and inform him/her of what you have been eating.. Why chance complications.. I'm sorry if this is not what you want to hear and If I didn't care I would have never responded!!! Good luck! -
Jessica... Just curious... But if you have had many situations where you have thrown up why get another fill so soon.... I'm not being mean just worry that you are putting yourself at risk for complications with being too tight or throwing up too much.
-
Sounds miserable.... I would get some backed out... Now I too cannot eat solids when I wake up but I can do protein drinks or oatmeal. I know you really want to get the weight off but this is not the way to do it and you risk complications if your band is too tight. And if you're not eating solids then that defeats the purpose of the band ( restriction ) just my opinion!!!

Well I don't count calories since being banded but I have a great memory of how many calories are in certain foods from my pre band calorie counting days so I am aware if I am getting too many or not enough... Most times I'm not getting enough calories in on the weekends because I work 12 hour days, like maybe 700-800, so on my off days when I'm at home and have had adequate sleep I eat more, which is probably around 1400 clalories. This shocks my system and keeps it guessing. The same goes with working out.. I work out 4 days a week and I use a different machine each day... I'm no scientist but this works for me...

My surgeon does not go by the BMI chart, he says we'll just know when we are where are body should be. I am 5'9 and I'm thinking I will be happy around 175... This is after I have plastic surgery to remove all the excess skin.. So it's just an individual thing. That's what's great about the band, we can control our weight with our fills or non fills. For me I'm going to get in the 190's ( 40 lbs from now) and then plan a visit to the plastic surgeon and go from there. Good luck with your decision!

Hi Kim, you can do it!!!!! My insurance also requested monthly visits to my doctor and my surgeon wanted me to lose 30 lbs! So time passes and I lose, I gain, I lose and gain again. Fast forwad to 3 weeks before surgery and I still have to lose that 30 lbs. So I started the pre op diet a week early and lost the 30 requested by my surgeon and was told that my liver was beautiful :0)!!! So don't fret, go into this with a positive attitude and you can do anything you set your mind to!!! If you have any questions feel free to ask away and keep me posted on your progress.

Sometimes it's a good Idea to shock the system, I think our bodies build up an immunity when we stick with the same calories, same foods or even the same workout schedule... At least this is true for me.. I switch things up every week, this seems to help me stay on track and lose 1-3 lbs a week.

Feeling like a $15,000 failure!
jujuvee replied to DizzyLizzy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I get asked every week at work and now tell them that I only weigh once a month and it's I'm enjoying non scale victories too.. Like smaller clothes and more endurance, that usually shuts them up!!!!!! -

You say your 12 lbs proudly!!!!! Because a loss is a loss... People have soooo many misconceptions about lapband... It's a slow steady process and more times then not we have to educate those around us of that... 12 lb loss is better then a 12 lb gain and soon you will be saying 15 lbs lost!!! -

Ok, I'm probably going to catch hell for this but being that I don't candy coat anything I just have to say... Are you serious!!!!! It's been one month... Not to mention that this is the time for healing and getting over the shock of surgery!!!!!! Give it a chance!!! If you make the decision to go back on all protein shakes that defeats the purpose of the band and that will be like throwing money away. The band works off of restriction so when you get restriction and you eat solid foods it will trigger you to stop or you will throw up. If you drink your meals or eat unhealthy sliders it will go straight through the band... I don't believe in low carb because eventually you will feel deprived and when you fall off that plan you will fall hard... So seriously quit comparing yourself to other people and give yourself a pat on the back for making such a major decision in life... I'm sorry If I am being hard but the reality is that if you are crying over 12 lbs then how are you going to handle a month with a 4 lb loss or maybe no loss at all. -
Is this going to be another failed attempt?
jujuvee replied to Bell1138's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok here's the deal... The band will only restrict solid foods so it is possible to eat around it and not lose. If sweets are your downfall this will be difficult because most sweets will slide through no matter how tight your band is, same goes for chips, popcorn, crackers. These turn to liquid and the band cannot hold liquids. I don't count calories and I exercise 4 days a week. I love my band but I have to do my part and make the propper food choices. -
Sugar free chocolate syrup, peanut butter ( stir well ) sugar free preserves, sugar free jello pudding powder ( orange is great ) crystal light drink powders, fruit, also tastes good on cucumber slices, l love it with peaches too!

I freeze mini turkey meatloaf, I make it in a muffin pan and freeze them individually. Also I slow cook BBQ shredded chicken and freeze it I use snack size zip locks for small servings.

Hmmm, at this point in your post op I would make it a meal. But I never had a seperation of meal and snack until after the healing stage. Try to stay within the prescribed measured amounts but the beans should really be filling...heck I think I might of had it all 3 meals some days! -

Are you at the stage where you can have refried beans? If so they're great with a little salsa and sour cream... -
What was 1st months loss goal and what u actually lost the first month??
jujuvee replied to special_01k's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Your first month is about healing and slowly introducing foods and getting use to your band so if I could give you my 9 months of wisdom, (and still learning) it would be to not worry about your weight loss. You will be pumped full of gas during surgery and that along with the liquid intake may cause a gain. Now this is just my opinion... I love my band because for once in my life I don't dwell on calories, fat grams, or carbs, I have only had one fill and I don't even care to know how many cc's I'm holding... This is such a unique experience that comparing ourselves to others does no good. I started concentrating on making choices that I will be able to keep without felling deprived of the foods I love... If I want a giant bowl of ice cream I have it.. Exercise is now a non negotiable habit for me, 4 times a week and currently training for my first half marathon! I don't weigh daily or weekly, I usually just let my doctor weigh me... I'm 9 months out and I don't always make the best food choices, I am a work in progress. But life with the band is amazing! Good luck and feel free to send me a message anytime. -
I love Greek yogurt, I always buy the plain. I admit that I do kick it up by adding sugar free flavor to it. I have also added peanut butter to it ( stir really well ) also I use it on baked potatoes instead of sour cream and in tuna instead of mayo. The options are endless if you buy the plain.

Help I need ideas PLEASE!
jujuvee replied to GwSoccermom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
.... Also I don't believe Ice cream is bad, I don't believe there are any bad foods just bad amounts. For me the glory of the band is that if I want it I eat it.. Just not as much as I use too.
