Sounds like everything is going well for you, I was banded on March 24th and by day 3 I did not need pain meds. I slept on my back the first 3 nights due to the pressure. After day 7-8 all soreness was gone but if I did too much I was exhausted. Now I am 12 days out and feeling amazing, I am still on the liquid stage for 3 more days but my liquid stage includes egg beaters which I have been having in the mornings. Good luck with everything!

banded 3/30 and more newbie questions
jujuvee replied to chazpbg's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
chazpbg, you should follow the food stages that YOUR doctor has given you, every doc is different but why chance stretching your pouch, It's not about choking it's about letting yourself heal and they don't not want your stomach to churn during this phase. Like I said every doc is different but I was told no alcohol for 6 weeks The best thing for the gas is to walk, walk, walk, some say that heating pads are useful as well, as far as the sour feeling call your doc if you experience nausea because it's important not to throw up. And as far as the reflux my doc said to take a prilosec if I had this problem, so call and ask them what is best. No scolding. It's good that you come here and ask questions, but I was banded a week before you and when I reflect back at all the months of dealing with paperwork, insurance, and doc appts the last thing I want to do is chance having to start over because I decided to jump the gun and caused damage. The stages will pass quickly and next thing we know we are on regular diet.... Good Luck!!!!!!! and congrats on the weight loss! -
What is wrong with me?
jujuvee replied to tamkin65's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Tammy, well I'm not a doctor so I can't say weather you have caused any damage but you really have to remember why you did this. Maybe it would help if you started keeping a journal, not just for foods but also for your thoughts. This is the beginning of a whole new life so even though you feel like you will never get through these first stages.... you will and next thing you know you will be on a regular diet, so take a deep breath, refocus and try to keep yourself occupied. I was banded on the 24th and like you all the swelling has gone down and I too am on my period. I am on full liquids and thankfully that includes cottage cheese, egg beaters and refried Beans, those keep me satisfied in between the Protein drinks, I also drink a lot of Water and that too helps. One thing I just started doing is at night I allow myself one hersheys kiss and I keep it in my mouth until it's all liquid and if your a chocolate fan like me that really puts me in a good place. I don't know about you but getting to where I am now has been a long process and to make a mistake now while my body is in the healing process could just stall all the work I have done to get here, so I just take it one day at a time. Feel free to send me a private message anytime. Also I see you are from Cookville, my grandparents which have passed were from Monterey. -
There probably is not a difference in mushies and chewing really well but for our protection and for those who don't follow rules food stages were created. Have fun with your food ideas and your blender and you will feel good knowing that you played it safe.

Also, it may not look pretty but it will taste like heaven, especially coming from the liquid stage.
-
well my ideas for this stage are chicken and dupmplings, ravioli, beef stew, meat loaf, speghetti or how about ground turkey with taco sasoning, tuna salad, chicken salad, hummus..... If you can throw it in a blender it can be pureed. You might need to add Water to get the consistency you need and I'm sure you can create health versions of these. Good luck.

Need some mushie ideas....please
jujuvee replied to mama59's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I think this could be a fun stage. How about meat loaf, beef stew, chicken&dupplins, chili, ground turkey with taco sasoning, mac&cheese. It's not going to look pretty but you can toss any of this in a blender, add a bit of water to get the consistancy you need and it's going to taste good. -
Need products and advice
jujuvee replied to STLMom2006's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My new toy is a cusinart immersion (stick blender), I love it, it's heavy duty and an easy clean, it makes great protein drinks, purees and will get me through the mushy stage and takes up little to no room on my counter or drawers (2 pieces) I was looking at the magic bullet but I didn't want 17 pieces that is overkill for me. Good luck!!! Amazon cost was 39.95 but I have othet brands at a cheaper price. -
Hi Restless..... I have a question and since I follow your post I wanted to ask you instead of posting the question on the board and getting a bunch of different answers...
I was banded on 3-24 and I know that I have no restriction but my question is about water, can the pouch fill up with water or will the water just slide down as I am drinking... I fell that I am drinking slow but after drinking around 6 oz, I feel a pressure in the middle of my chest.
2nd question... I am allowed 2 oz of specific foods and I know there is a no eating and drinking rule but what if it's 2 oz of cream of chicken soup, does that rule still apply?
Thanks for your time, I love your attitude and I look forward to learning more from you..Julie

So stay tuned and I will give updates on my progress... Next update will be after my follow up appointment on April 9th.

Surgery 3/23 and not feeling so good
jujuvee replied to kathyv's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
kathy V have you dressed up your protein drinks to make them a bit tastier? I know they are all sweet options but you can add stuff like sugar free instant pudding mixes to play with the flavor and different crystal light powders as well. I was banded on the 24th and have a big selection in my phase 1 (days 2-14) that I can have but I am keeping it simple for this week, here is what I have been having. B- 2 oz cream of wheat, with a touch of brown sugar S-protein drink with vanilla protein powder, banana pudding powder, blended with ice L- 2 oz unsweetened applesauce S- another protein drink, this one with protein powder(vanilla) and the orange crystal light D- 2 oz cream of chicken soup I can have refried beans, cottage cheese and a softly scrambled egg, but I am going to wait until I am a week in to introduce those. Good luck and feel free to write anytime. -
I'm Not Telling Anyone I'm Being Banded.....
jujuvee replied to laurenlee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I told everyone and their mother! I figured that if they are my true friends and care about me then they would rather see me finally make a step in the right direction then to continually see me in misery, and when your my size you can only fake it for so long. Also I can't do this alone, support is important. I have only been banded less then a week but everyone is on my side and people are coming out of the woodwork wanting information , so maybe in a sense I am helping others by being upfront with my decision. -
I too have a lot to lose but I'm in no hurry, my outlook is to just follow the post op food stages and become greatly aquainted with my new friend. Just relax, remember your in good hands and when you wake up it will all be done and then the rest is up to you. There's so much great information on this site so read, read, read.

Hospital Packing List
jujuvee replied to Band_Groupie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded 2 days ago. Surgery was at noon I was in recovery at 2 and home at 6. All I needed was my chapstick, I brought a very small bag just in case and left it in the car and all that was in it was my phone, lapband book and tetris! The clothes I wore in I wore out, minus the bra. Don't over think it. -
On my list of full liquids, days 2-14 it includes 2 oz at each meal of oatmeal, cream of wheat, cottage cheese, refried beans, jello, baby food meats and egg beaters. I was banded yesterday and I have only had 2 protein drinks fo far. I have no apetite and it's hard to get the recommended amounts in.

Banded last Thursday and already eating semi-solid food. What's wrong???
jujuvee replied to kounthestarrz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just banded yesterday and today I start full liquids which is Protein drinks and 2 oz of the following for Breakfast, lunch and dinner cottage cheese, yogurt oatmeal, cream of wheat, strained Soup, Beans Jello and very soft scrambled egg. The beans must be pureed. Now like I said this is only day 2 for me so I really don't plan on advancing myself that quickly. Today I will probably have a Protein Drink, tea, crystal light and maybe the cream of wheat later in the day. I am feeling way better today than yesterday just some pain in the port area and a bit of pain when I breath deeply. -
Anything I need for my week following surgery?
jujuvee replied to StephOnee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am being banded on tuesday and I am on clear liquids on day one. Days 2-14 full liquids- strained soups, yogurt, cream of wheat, softly scrambles egg beaters, applesauce, refried beans. My dietition said to puree the beans and add some broth to make them runny, looks gross but very filling. Days 15-28 mushies.... At this point there are many options. I bought a stick blender and look forward to using it. Anyway I just listed some of what's on my list, hope it helps and good luck. -
Really only for "health reasons?"
jujuvee replied to marathonmommy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am being banded on Tuesday and my reasons for deciding to do this is because the world is just not fat friendly. I go to a resturant and I can't fit in a booth and need a chair with no sides, I fly and need 2 seats, I haven't been on a theme park ride since a kid and all the cute clothes are not in my size so I am forced to go to a special store where they think just because you need a bigger size you have lost all sense of fashion, for example giant strawberries or teddy bears on a shirt. I don't currently have health issues but I know that I can't stay 350 forever. -
New to the forum, but not the band
jujuvee replied to Sita's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
first off congrats on the amazing weight loss. I am scheduled to be banded next tuesday at a starting weight around 350. I too felt more comfortable with lapband then bypass. My surgeon prefers lapband over bypass because he believes that once lapbanders reach goal he can breath a sigh of relief that they will most likely not gain the weight back but with bypass he is happy that a patient has reached goal but still carries a concern as to their future since they do not have restriction if they backslide.
