Advice to those to be sleeved

I would also suggest making it a point to ask for a cool, wet hand towel to be nearby. Feels so good to wash the face and clear out the nostrils. That oxygen nose tube made my nose so dry! Digging out the crusties was not fun, but that small towel made it tons easier. I sure hope this helps others and is not just looked at as a bitch!
  2. I was put on Prilosec immediately. A melt in my mouth kind of pill. I will be on it for a year. What you have going on sounds really icky. Hope you can find a remedy.

    Am home

Yeah, Linda! A sleeve sista!! Luckily my pain is minimal. But, yes, the liquid Lortab has an icky taste. Oh, well. It keeps the oogies down. I have been drinking Water as I feel comfy, and liquid Protein seems to go down well. The odd stomach "cramping" is tough to adjust to. But, being day three with a rerouted intestinal system, what can I expect? I bet this will pass. My poor surgeon is now being teased unmercifully about "killing Santa." Santa is my December job, and one I am naturally built for. He had no idea. So when the stomach came out, all the rest of the surgical team started humming the theme song and started calling him Dr. Grinch (I have friends on the surgical team that did my operation). Word of this made it all the way through the hospital as I did a visit there last year for the burn kids and NICU babies and pareents! Lots of sleep occurring. I can be up maybe an hour before beddy by calls me back in. Little leakage occurring. OK...am off again. Thanks all for the good messages.
  4. I went to my pre-op meeting with the dietician last week. Group setting; maybe eight people there. Had one, well, less than dedicated one. She actually asked two astounding questions: Does this operation mean I can't eat my fried chicken any more? And, why isn't Mountain Dew a clear liquid? I about coughed up a lung trying not to laugh. I guess it takes all kinds...

    Introducing myself to YOU!

Welcome. I believe you'll find that this is a wonderful place to meet other sleevers and to get many, many answers to questions as well as the needed support. I am heading into surgery tomorrow morning, 8:30 eastern, August 3, and I am ready. In part, this feeling prepared comes from the interaction I have had on here. I am comfortable with my choice and am expecting only good to continue to bless me. Sure beats being fat, uncomfortable, and unhappy. See you on the sleeved side.
  6. Thanks, Linda. I am so ready to get this over. See you on the sleeved side!

    Pre-op diet day 3

I have been fairly blessed that the overwhelming desire to eat has not been with me during my two week pre-op diet. Wife made popcorn one night (after asking me) and that was OK, until the leftovers the next morning caught my attention. But, no, I was a good boy. But did ask her to finish it or throw it away. My big dilemma was the headaches and dragging. But, for me in hindsight, it was a combo of the diet, drastic sugar reduction, and dropped all caffeine (coffee). Am glad I did that then as I would not want to add headaches to the post-surgical pains. Keep focused, distract yourself, and, if you're like me, that ketosis breath will eventually overwhelm any food smells that may try to make it to your nose!

Thanks, Maldito..that makes a lot of sense!
  9. Thanks for asking this! I will need some help, too, real soon!

Until the next morning. Will ask if we can forgo that Maybe it is so I don't wet myself during surgery. Maybe. Or there is just a cruel med tech that enjoys inflicting pain.
  11. Heyas pretty mother of two boys! My surgery is at 8:30 on Monday morning. I have to report at 6:30. I am ready to move on. The last few days of the liquid diet have been much easier, but the mental part (wanting to have something in my mouth) has been tough. Damn commercials on TV... Good luck for you!

I wish they did not use a Foley, but they do. *sigh* I feel the pain already...

    Headaches the first week ?

Had massive headaches the first week of my pre-op liquid. Probably a combo of giving up coffee and sugars plus the massive reduction in food. My surgery is next Monday (Aug 3) and hope that by giving up those things before the surgery I will not have to deal with withdrawal headaches as well. Maybe liquid Tylenol?

One is a nasal gastric to suck stuff out. Then there is the anesthetist/respiratory tubing. Add to that the French Bougie (size 34) going down there. So three. Then five abdominal portals for the surgery. Plus a Foley catheter (oh, fun, fun!). The nasal will stay in until the next morning to pull out any acid and ick that may form. I asked a lot of questions of my surgeon. Can you tell?

I will be doing a barium swallow with a follow up x-ray, not the EGD...thank goodness. My throat will be sore enough with three tubes going down there during the surgery. When I had a EGD test a year ago they completely knocked me out. Gawd, I am such a wimp...
  16. Hi fellow Michigander! Am near Bay City here. Nice to "meet"you.

  17. OK..I follow about my poser comment. May have been harsh and unnecessary. For that I apologize. But after all I read, just does not seem feasible. Now, if it is water weight, then maybe so. But two cups of food at a sitting? Must've been a huge French bougie.
  18. Come on...two cups of solid food two weeks out? That's horse apples. A poser.

    signs of leakage

Call your doctor! Simple enough...but hard to do. Calling the doctor is tough to do. I am a guy. It's like asking for directions...
  20. You still on for August 10? Hope so :)

  21. A few little tidbits of observation from my pre-op diet: I never realized there were so many food commercials on TV! I mean, wow. Fast food, restaurants, creamy this, sweet that. I have begun reading more than I have in a long time to avoid commercials. Shopping at the grocery is not as much fun. So many candies, lovely breads, and those evil old lady sample people! "Here, sweetie, you look like you can use a sample of this!" It's like a mine field of potential disasters. Get what I need, keep the head down, and escape. My breath is so bad makes me wonder if my dogs occasionally eating poop has benefits. At least they cannot smell this damn ketosis breath. Was wondering why they were pawing at their noses. As I wrote to a pal, and to quote Jack Nicholson in the movie The Bucket List, "Never trust a fart." Expecting to see a polish sausage from 1997 real soon! I know, gross. But it's the truth. My body is flushing out all kinds of oddities. Probably for the best. If I sleep much more part of my surgery will be mattress removal from my posterior. Just awfully run-down. But being run-down beats the caffeine/sugar/carb withdrawal headaches. More to come! Please add more if you wish.
  22. You can see my post in general discussions area...about covers it all! But, yes, I had headaches at first, and battling the tireds. But feeling better here on day 11.

    Observations from pre-op diet

And two more: * Forks. What are those? Those little tines are good at mixing up goop from the bottom of my mixing jar, but that's it right now! * People are so apologetic when they find out I am on a liquid diet. "Oh, you poor thing..." They think I am just totally and tragically unable to function. Maybe I can work this into some sympathy things, like mowing my yard, washing my car, going to the store for me...?

    Tomorrow is the big day

Best wishes to you. I hope all goes smoothly and no complications. Prayers your way.

    Just hit Onederland!!

I am so thrilled for you! Good job. For me to make "onederland" would probably require the amputation of one or both legs, so I think I will pass. But I am looking forward to entering "twofer" land!
