    Had my surgery Thursday monring

As was said to me: Of course you're sore (or tired or ornery)! You just had major abdominal surgery! I agree that my cuts did not seem to be as sore as the muscle area underneath, particularly where they had placed the largest port area. I found trying not to focus on it, maybe working on little projects helped, as did ice packs. I was on Lortab for about four days after I returned home, but in hindsight probably could have stopped sooner. Walking was vital for me, even if it was outside and around the backyard a few times. Easy does it, but do it.
  2. I have slimed a few times now. Feels like a burp, and this load of slick stuff comes up. It is not acidic, but kind of jelly like. Yuck. I have figured my main culprits are as follows: Eating too fast Beans (regular, have not tried refried) Crystal Light on occasion Chicken breast (unless made into a salad type with MW) Egg yolks (I am fine with whites or egg substitutes) Too fatty of cheese (i.e. cheese curds) I am learning more and more about what I can handle and how to eat each day. I have been blessed not to have acid reflux, and even turkey jerky went down fine, as did homemade ground bologna. Go figure. I guess we are all slightly different with big time similarities.

    Two days out.

farting? Did someone say farting? They never told me to belch or anything. Maybe cause I am a guy. My nausea was under control with the meds and passed quickly.

    Tiredness

OK, those who are a lot farther out than I am: I am still unbelievably tired. I am 11 days out from surgery, but today I got up at 7, napped from 8-11, napped again from 2:15 until 4, and could still just go and curl up and sleep more. Is this normal? If so, how long will it last? I even went for a 1.5 mile 30 minute walk this evening and was yawning on the way home! I so hope this will pass soon.

    Food tolerance

I am about a week ahead of you and began pureed last Tuesday. I would suggest, first and foremost, GO SLOW. My wife has been on my case to slow down when I eat, and now I do. Might take me 15-20 minutes to have a meal now. I am most successful when I take small, small bites and chew the hell out of it even if it is pureed. I also "grease the slide" just a bit with a small drink of water before I begin eating. Make sure your puree is wet enough. I took a bite of chicken breast, chewed and chewed, swallowed, and whoops! Not even close enough to the proper wetness. Got the slimes. Ick. We were also told not to introduce a new food more than once every three days, and I have followed that. And baby food has been a nice taste diversion. Hope this helps!

    Chili and beans

Hi all. I would like to make some turkey chili with beans for a nice flavor changes. I am planning to grind the turkey really well, but what about the beans? Is the "skin" on normal kidney style bean OK to eat? Or should these be ground as well? I am at the later mushie stage and slowly working into softs. Thanks!

    Unbelievable that I did this!!

On Thursday my wife took me out for ice cream. Yes, ice cream. I ordered a "kiddy cup," maybe 1/3 cup total, of soft swirl. You should have seen the look on the girl's face who took my order; this big bear of a guy wants a kiddy cup? It was wonderful! Tasted so good on my tongue. I slowly ate it (it took me about 20 minutes) and relished every bite. Do I feel guilty? Nope. I figure I need to have just those little snacks every coon's age or so just to keep my taste sanity. This is a long race, not a month long sprint, and I figure I need to indulge, just a little, every now and then.
  9. OK! got it. Thanks, Mac. Had a person giving me an earful because I "only" had the sleeve and not the "full" duodenal switch. I am pleased and happy with my decision even more now after seeing the comparisons.

Just don't feel like another protein drink

I have been adding unflavored GNC protein to my soups to get a boost in protein. I agree: After two weeks of pre-surgery proteins drinks and three more weeks, icky poo. But I also know it was in the contract when I signed up. Cheeses do seem to help me add a little bit of protein.

    First two weeks

Darn, Ange... and I had the plane tickets and all! :sneaky2:
  12. All I asked my doc to keep was the part of my stomach he removed. I wanted to put it in a jar so I can keep it next to my 40+ year old tonsils. He said no. What a meanie! Figured I could take it to school for show and tell like I did with my tonsils. No sense of fun! :sneaky2: Am glad to hear you're doing well. Curious: what is the difference between my sleeve and a gastric bypass?

do you FEEL like you have to pee

Count me as surprised that my peeing urges have changed too. I am surprised that I do not have that "oh, oh" feeling in the morning, but some of my pees are real long. Plus mine go from the bright yellow to the dull yellow. I drink my full 64 ounces, or more, each day. TMI, I know. But I am also glad to see I am not alone in this change.

    Have a favor to ask

Would suggest the public library probably has oodles of computers to use for free. Might be less daunting for her that way.

    New pics

For those who would like to see, I posted a couple of two week post-op pics. Starting to notice wonderful changes.

    feeling like a train wreck!

You are fine, sweetie. Keep on going, one day at a time!

    New pics

Thanks for the kind messages. I went for my two week post visit today and am down 43 pounds. Shocked me. BP was 117/72, and I am not even on my hypertension drug any more! Staples and stitches came out without a problem and my wounds are healing nicely. On to the mushies! Was surprised that I was told to avoid fresh fruit for a while yet (which may explain why the watermelon went down like a toxic bomb), and no beef for three months. But I can have my finger pulled as often as needed! :confused1:

    over ate and feel fine

I had four small bites of egg on Sunday morning. Three must've been my limit because I knew it quickly. Felt like someone had poured concrete into my chest and, as I have seen others write, I was drooling like I was at a seed spitting contest. I have to learn to take time between bites as my stomach acclimates to new foods and all. If you can avoid this, do! What a God-awful feeling that was.

    Two weeks post op

This includes two weeks liquid diet pre-op plus two weeks post op.
  20. An article from the Detroit Free Press spins the sleeve in a very positive way: Surgery offers bigger weight-loss payoff | Detroit Free Press | Freep.com But, we all knew a lot of this, right? Be well all.

    All was well until today

First time in post-surgery when I had a real, solid BeeMer I wanted to take pictures. I was so happy. Not that yellowish greenish ick, but a real one. Called family and announced the birth. Not really, but it was 10 days after my surgery! You'll be ok, and from my experience it is normal. If it keeps happening, definitely call your doc...it's what s/he is there for!

    Surgery tomorrow!!!!

Bumps are OK; potholes and leakages are not! Am glad you are home. Rest, rest, rest. And drink your fluids! Feels funny going down at first, but it is the right thing to do. Update us when you can.

    hey again--anyone relate?

I guess having a nutritionist and support staff available to me locally is one good thing of my insurance covering this procedure. I can call anytime during the week and attend weekly support meetings. I had four, yes FOUR, small bites of egg this morning. One bite too much! :001_tongue: I am fine, but, wow. All my Water and liquid nourishment went down so well, but this felt like a piece of concrete had settled in my chest. It passed, but wow. Had some bay food mush last night and it was OK. SO lots to learn! Slow and easy does it, I suppose.
  24. I am in my full liquid stage; mushies start next week. And I cannot wait. Energy levels are very poor. Getting all in I am supposed to, but still not enough. Hope you're doing well!
