    Do you miss fast food?

Hi! I thought I'd chime in because I was a drive-through diva! I used to brag how my family of four could go grocery shopping and spend less than $100, but then I realized we had fast food way too many times during the week and went out to sit-down restaurants! Yikes! Since I've been banded, there's a Missing Person poster up at Taco Bell with my picture on it. I'll be honest, it doesn't turn me on anymore like it used to. Even when I think I want it, after a moment I realize it doesn't sound that good at all. Now, that's not to say I haven't had things from the local stops. I have two kids that like their chicken nuggets, but we've eliminated the french fries. One night I was on my way back from somewhere and even pulled into McDonald's -- then drove right out a few seconds later, deciding to just eat something at home instead. When I do eat out, I try to get chicken items that are grilled. I don't tolerate lettuce very well, so I don't really get the salads. I mostly just try to get the Protein in. I try to avoid the local stops that mostly have bread items like sandwiches and pizza. Being Mexican, it's hard, but I've been okay without my tortillas too. KFC is my favorite these days. I can get a little chicken and some vegetables. It's easily tolerated, and I feel like I didn't waste my pouch space for a meal on something without many nutrients. Long John Silver was running a fresh fish meal campaign a while ago, which was nice, but for me, they over-seasoned the fish. Taco bell has the zesty chicken border bowls. I eat the chicken out of it, with just a little bit of the rice to get a few carbs in. I haven't craved burgers, (Not really a burger person) but I know that Burger King offers breadless platters of their regular sandwiches. McDonald's, I like to get the chicken selects and a fruit and yogurt parfait. I will still order a sweat tea now and then, but it goes home to the fridge until I can drink again. lol

Any Deaths due to lap band

Jamiatu.... Hi! I think infections are really scary, but the percentage of people who have any surgery and get an infection that leads to death is so tiny compared to people who have surgery and do not develop an infection. There is always risk, but like others have said... your risk of living a shorter life due to obesity is actually greater. Your family needs you to be healthy, and if your surgeon has faith that you are a good candidate and this surgery will help you, then just try your best to put your fear out of your mind (so difficult, I know!), surround yourself with your family's love, and do your best to follow all of the medical staff's instructions for your pre and post-op care. Get lots of rest, keep a close eye on your incisions, and pick up the phone immediately to call your doctor if anything at all is a concern to you. If something does come up, the sooner you talk to your surgeon, the better your chances are of clearing it up. I am sending you lots of hugs and all my best wishes for a great surgery and smooth recovery!
  3. Hey there!!!! I hope you are having a great week!

    New notorious novembers weightloss spreadsheet

Thanks for keeping this spreadsheet for us, Sistasassy! How are those pups? Having fun? Please update my info. My current weight is now 253.5 as of 1/25/09. Thanks so much again!
  5. You have received so many good replies already, but I just wanted to send some hugs your way. I'm sorry you had such a terrible experience. I wish you all the best for an uneventful second fill.
  6. You are doing so great!!! Congratulations! What I've noticed about myself is that if I call it exercise, I don't like to do it. It's hard to even get started. I trick myself by turning up some energizing music and I just start dancing around. Before I know it, I'm ready to move more. Sometimes we just need a push start to get over the mental hurdles. Take care!
  7. I am so sorry you are having a difficult time. I hope you get some relief fast. To me though, in your post, it sounds like the surgeon's office is short on listening ability. That's so unfortunate. I hope the communication opens up a little better and you can get this resolved. I am wishing you all the best.
  8. My lower body never seems to want to lose weight. Everything above the belt gets smaller, but the butt, thighs, and lower legs are soooooooooooooo slow.
  9. Hi, Sandra! I'm not as far in my journey as you are, but I have been seeing the same issue, that old habits want to creep up on me again. I'm wishing you lots of strength to be able to resist those urges and get your mind focused again. You are doing so great! Congratulations! Let us know how the Special K Water is. Does it help take the edge off of things like they say?
  10. That sounds like a beautiful place!!!

I'm just puttering around this morning. Every Sunday, my kids go to my in-laws for the day. So soon I'll be getting them ready to go, and then it's just me and hubby for the day. We yell at each other all week, but on Sunday we do grocery shopping and get lunch or dinner or something. It's kind of like our time to recharge. Ha ha ha

I love to take pictures too, but it seems I don't take nearly enough out in the wild. Most of the time it's of my goofy kids. I've been so wrapped in work the past few years that I have spent little time with my hobbies. This year I will try.

I hope you feel better! Get lots of rest!

  11. That's great about your fill!!! I hope it helps you out a lot!

Have a good week and thanks for your message and kind words!!

  12. Ooooh, I want to hear all about that Nikon!!! How do you like it? What kind of photos do you like to take??

I hope you are doing well today!

    overcoming emotional eating

In my pre-teen years, my mom married this very abusive man. That was hard enough to deal with, but what I felt more, I think, was that for the first time in my life, I felt deprived of foods and beverages. Not that we weren't fed, but the extras that I was used to were not there. As an adult, I came to terms with the fact that an abundance of food represented success and power to me. If I could go out to eat and order whatever I wanted, I felt good. I hope you do get to the source of your pain and problems. It seems like you are on the right track. I worried too that I was not mentally prepared either, but I find each day that I am getting better at talking myself out of getting food just because I can. It's not perfect every day, but I know that without the band, I would be eating way more than this. I'm just saying, please don't throw out the surgery just because you think you won't be able to do it. I hope the counseling will help you sort things out, and together the band and counseling should bring you to a healthier place. If you want a buddy to talk about your abusive past, I'll always listen. I wish you lots of strength and peace. Please take care. You can overcome this.
  14. I always felt good having a baked potato or mashed potatoes. I know, starch is bad, but hey, I couldn't eat that much of it, and I'm avoiding starch now that I can eat real food again...but it made me happy at a time when I could have little else. I'm also a sweet junkie. To avoid turning to the comforts of ice cream, I mixed up a batch of instant pudding with unflavored Protein powder mixed in. It helped me get my protein down and I felt like I was having a treat. Hang in there! You're doing great!
  15. From the beginning before surgery, I was told not to expect to lose the weight quickly. It took a while but I fixed that into my brain. So I was not upset during Bandster Hell when I went for my second post op and only showed a three-pound loss, but then my surgeon seemed like he expected me to have done better... so WTF? ha ha ha I was pretty proud of the three pounds.

    Anyone else have this happen?

I think it's just the body's way of pushing out foreign objects. Kind of creepy though!

    stomach Flu

Flirty and BK, I hope you both are feeling better soon. BK, maybe ask the doc if it's okay to have some Immodium? That usually helps me out when things are exiting too quickly. Haven't had it come up yet since banded, so don't know if it's harsh on the stomach. The packaging could tell you though. Get lots of rest and feel better guys!!!

    The fat man's exection

Ah, poor fat man! But I bet he won't be missed! Have a good surgery! I hope you have a nice, smooth recovery so we can quickly get to know the new man. Hope he's as funny. LOL

    Weird fat loss!

Well, I always seem to lose weight from the same place first, right around the ribs and my face, but the one place that really lets me know I'm doing better and always cracks me up is my "shelf". It's this bump-out section at the top of my butt that looks like I could carry a tray of food on it or a couple toddlers. When my mom sees me she goes, "Hey, you're losing your shelf!" I turn and go, "Yeah, it's not sticking out that much now, is it?" ha ha ha Keep up the great work! Congratulations!

    Discouraged

Hi! That's a great loss during your post-op phase! Congratulations! From what I've read and heard from others, and experienced myself, there is a little period of time once you start feeling good after surgery and before you start getting fills that you seem to not move the scale much or at all. It is very discouraging, but it's not unusual or indicative of failure. For me, I noticed my clothes fitting looser, but no scale movement for a few weeks. I had my first fill, and now the scale is starting to move a little. Don't forget though that the expected amount is 1-2 pounds a week. I really had to embrace that in my head when doing my goal setting. Things will fluctuate, and I'm sure you will notice differences soon! I hope this was helpful a little! Take care!
  22. Hey, Fitzie! I hope you are doing better at slowing down. I forget sometimes too. I've been close to losing it too, and it was so painful. I'm trying really hard now to make sure I really really chew. I hope you are doing better too. Take care! Update soon, okay, because it's good to hear how you are! Thanks! Bye!

  23. I hope you have a good fill on Wednesday. I've only had one. I have 4.5 cc in right now. I feel the restriction most of the time, depending on its mood, the band seems to let some meals pass more easily. I've heard everyone else say that it changes daily, but it is still so strange to be so tight one day and then the next you think you might be able to fit a whole ham through!

You've made good progress so far! Congrats! I hope your fill will have you feeling better and get the scale moving faster. You may not notice much yet if you are exercising... exchanging fat for muscle... but it sounds like you are doing good though!

    Thanks for writing!

  24. I did not think you were a dweeb! I know nobody spends as much time here as I do. lol

Friends don't always have to be all roses and cupcakes either. We all need someone to listen to us now and then, so if you just need to vent, I sure don't mind.

I understand what you mean right now about wanting things to be good. It seems everyone is struggling with finances these days. My husband has been off on medical for a while now, but we just found out that we have no health insurance as of Jan. 1st. Even if they fix his neck and arm issues, there's no job to go back to anyway, major layoffs! It's very frustrating, but I guess we just kind of grit out teeth and push through. I keep asking, "Why does everything have to be so difficult! When do we get a break?" I hope you get your break soon. It's time for things to be good again, and I'm sure it will.

  25. I had the same issue in two areas, as did my son when he had stitches in his head. Don't tug...it's holding the inside together. I clipped mine too. Calling your doc, even though far away, is a good idea since it's bothering you. Congrats on your surgery! I hope you keep healing nicely!
