Ruthi replied to Cherie_B's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you considered going to Mexico? It less than 1/2 the cost. -
Getting older is bad enough but getting older and fatter is a killer!

Need some support.....
Ruthi replied to PurricanChick's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You will do fine and you will love it here. Like Susan said, we are more like a family and we are going to love having you part of it. -
yes, considering that not all will follow their post op diet and advance to a more solid food before they should and that is what would cause a leak at 2 weeks. Probably why Dr Aceves put pts on liquids for 3 wks
-
I take the extended release effexor too. If I dont take it, I have side effects but none while I take it regularly. They cant pry it away from me now.

Excited to join the VSG club
Ruthi replied to travelchick's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Travelchick, Your story sounds alot like mine but my stomach actually got necrotic. You will love the sleeve. I got mine 3 months to the day they removed my band. That is as soon as I could get it. I was self pay also and used care credit. Man.....the interest rate and still paying on a band I dont have. -
What has your therapist said about this? Has he or she given you a psych referral to try any new medications?
-
She sort of contradicted herself with her statement. She said they wouldnt take you but at the same time said they fix the mistakes of other doctors all the time. Drs in the ER do NOT turn any real emergency away, its a liabiltiy issue. Complications usually happen with the sleeve within the first day or two and that is why Dr Aceves has you stay for 2 additonal days. I dont really know of or have heard of any complications from the Sleeve for any of Dr Aceves' patients. He may have had a complication with the surgery but it wasnt from the sleeve itself but from the patient health issues. Best of luck to you

Some Surgeons "gentler" than others?? What do ya think?
Ruthi replied to kaykay's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Unfortunately they are not. Sometimes when a person does things that are becoming routine, they just dont take the same kind of care or hesitancy that others do. Many things can factor into this, ie. length of the surgery, time of day, how rushed they might be etc. I am not saying every doctor is like that. I saying it can happen and does. Thankfully my surgeon and anethesiologist were among the more caring professionals. -

Need some support.....
Ruthi replied to PurricanChick's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I didnt have counseling eiither, someone that commits suicide has more issues than just WLS but group support you get here will help. Good thing to stop smoking the POT, munchies are the very last thing you need after surgery. Cigarette smoking will delay healing so you really dont need that either. Best of luck to you. We are here when you need us. -
Something Else is Missing...
Ruthi replied to I Can and I Will's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am sure all of us had that feeling to some extent. I felt there was hope for the first time in a very long time. -
no, the unflavored jello is pretty much a non nutritive protein, best to go with a whey protein.
-
Best of luck to you. Have an uneventful recovery.

Had Sleeve Gastrectomy in Belgium
Ruthi replied to Brokerhenry's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome Henry, keep posting, we are here for you. Hope you enjoy being with our forum family. WOO HOOO Another sleeve brother!!!!! -
how long ago did you eat and how much. Your first pureed meal was a bit hard to digest. Try something lighter next time and work your way up
-
Well then, Hi neighbor, hope to run into you sometime when I go fishing, whenever that will be.
-
I second that, people get jealous or theatened when someone shows progress. I think you were courageous to tell anyone. I strongly feel that people just discount any weight loss if it was a result of WLS, they dont have any idea of how much work is done on our part afterwards to actually be successful. They think we went with an easy fix. I for one didnt tell anyone. Just the people here and my doctors. I didnt even tell my family that live near by.

Ross's Dress for Less comes in handy when you find you need something right now. I am waiting for big purchases too but when I went from size 18 tio 12, I had to get some new jeans. Tops havent been an issue just yet.

Advice to those to be sleeved
Ruthi replied to BobBayCityMI's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep, a great nurse is worth her weight in gold. I had some exceptional ones when I was in ICU once. (not with this surgery) -
Conflicted - approved and scheduled for RNY but thinking Sleeve
Ruthi replied to KatieSue's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sometimes with insurance, you have to meet your deductibles and some sort of co payment. With the cost of surgery in the states, sometimes the co pay can be as much as the sleeve cost in Mexico if not more. That may be a consideration also. Men are notorious for worrying about the money issue but if you were lying in a hospital ICU because of a cardiac problem, he would regret his hesitationbecause of money. The surgeon's experience with the sleeve surgery is also a MAJOR factor. -
Headhunter, You must live close to my neck of the woods. I am in Santa Clarita (Newhall) how about you?
