Ash, you arent alone. I may be stalling again too. I think I only lose something every 2 weeks now -
How painful did you find VSG to be?
Ruthi replied to kaykay's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had an open partial gastrectomy to have my lap band removed in March. I had staples from my breast bone to my navel. The pain I had then was not anything close to what I had with the VSG (which was so minimal it was non existant) I think you are in for a pleasant surprise. -
Solid food is very different than mushies. If you dont tolerate some of the milder solids then you can go back to mushies and not cause yourself any undo discomfort or possible damage if you start vomiting or something gets a bit stuck. Everyone heals at their own rate and some just take longer, so it is just more prudent to start slowly until you are sure you can tolerate graduating to something more solid.

At what point can you be reasonably sure that "leak" danger has passed?

I think that all depends on what you consider eating normally. You will be able to eat a bit more, perhaps 50% more than you do now, at about 1 yr out but you may never be able to eat what you were able to eat before or what others eat now. You may have to grieve your loss of the ability to take more than a few bites of that favorite food. I know I have had to. I am a foodie, that was my drug of choice. I loved food and the more I like a food, the more I wanted to taste it...over and over and over....well you get my drift here. I was aware of why and how I became overweight and volume was the biggest part of it, hence I felt the sleeve was the best answer for me. It keeps my volume eating to a nill and I am happy that it does. Sometimes a little too well but thats an acceptance issue.

Keep in mind that your stomach may be a bit smaller in the morning than it is after being up for awhile. Fluid in the body naturally shifts to the upper areas of the body when lying down. Some people even have puffy eyelids and just below the eyes (bags) when they first get out of bed. So of course the fluid shift will lessen the diameter of the stomach, not by much but with our greatly dcreased stomach size, still enough to feel tighter when we eat and things will tend to take much longer to pass through. The sensation decreases as we progress through the day and gravity causes the fluid to recede to the lower body again.

VSG is my last resort - but am I giving up to quickly on losing weight on my own?
Ruthi replied to gms1972's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The definition of insanity - Doing the same thing over and over but expecting different result....Thats what my dieting all these past years has been, insane. I chose something different to get the results I wanted. I needed to take some desperate measures to get what I needed. I need a tool to work with to get there. That is what the surgery is, a tool to help us get our desired results. The tool does alot of the work but we still have to control it. -

I remarked that I hoped that YOU would post one of your pics that Bob took of you. I dont have access to your personal pics nor would I put one of you by yourself without your permission. I will post a group photo or two but I do have more personal integrity than to post someone else's personal stuff!

Ruthi replied to kaykay's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I figure that the 30 day mark would be an indication that the doctors think that the danger is pretty much over since they wouldnt let you have solid foods otherwise. -
I had my surgery on a Friday and was back to work Tuesday with no problems

Daisy got everything done, Her pics really looked great. Bob knows what he is doing with that camera. I do hope she posts one of her favorites. I am planning to post a group one tomorrow. My batteries are dead in my camera right now so I cant download until in the am.

I have to admit, the weekend with vegas angel. bearded and oregan daisy was really awesome. We crammed in as much as a group could possibly squeeze into a weekend. If anyone in the forum is fortunate enough to get an invitation from vangel and bearded to visit them in Vegas, do it. They are the most awesome couple and I am totally blessed to have them as friends. (They have angels all over their house)!! A testiment to how they really are. We also found out that we (4) can easily share an appetizer and have left overs. They actuallly invited me back!!!! Life is good and We enjoyed every minute of it this weekend. Thanks you two!!!
