    Question about fills

Hi everyone! I was banded Nov 2008, after my 2nd fill a couple months later I found the "sweet spot" everyone talks about....lost 70 lbs...everything is great...until now. Recently I have noticed that I am not chewing my food up as much as I used to- if I feel something stick it passes very quickly. Is it possible that after this much time since a fill the band has become more open? Is that even possible?

I know you can stretch out your pouch but the band?

    First fill question.

HI! Congrats on your new lapband! I am 2 years post op and still love it! First of all, don't ya worry a bit...having a fill does not hurt. First the doctor will feel around for the port - this was a bit uncomfortable but not painful at all. Then he puts the needle in- which is weird because I didn't feel it but I heard it pop into the port. Last he fills it with the saline. He had me take a sip of water- I felt it bubble up in my throat so the dr told me he overfilled the band, so I laid back down and he removed some of the saline. Took another sip of water and it went down just fine. My Dr. never used x-rays during the fill. As far as how long you go in between fills I'm not sure. I had one fill a couple weeks post op....then a second fill a couple months later, then that's it. Hope that helps and let us know how your first fill was!

    Psych Eval...

my eval consisted of me one on one with a psychiatrist- we just talked about my weight struggles- it was totally easygoing. However, my friend who went to a different doctor had to fill out a questionaire- I was with her as her support person and some of the questions had us giggling. Such as "Do you or have you ever wanted to hurt an animal" We still laugh about that question today :-)
  8. I'm excited to hear there is an alternative to nori- That is usually what gives me trouble...that along with too much rice. Thanks!

    1 Year 1 month post-op

you look GREAT! You have a great figure! Any plastic surgery? Keep up the good work!
  10. Awe- Thank You! I think it came off so quickly because I do LOTS of cardio. I just hired a different trainer and we are going to work on my body fat %- which is WAY too high.

    rice

rice is the one food that I cannot eat. I can tolerate anything if chewed up well...but not rice. I agree with the previous poster- it expands when in your stomach. A small price to pay for losing weight
  12. congratulations! one-der land is a beautiful place to be!!
  13. Surgery date- November 10 2008 Highest Weight- 240 Preop diet starting weight- 240 Surgery weight (Your weight the day of surgery)-230 Current weight- 164.5 Goal weight- 150
  14. I also stayed overnight- I was told it was because of my sleep apnea (not officially diagnosed) . They kept me in ICU. I am glad I did-- not that anything went wrong but it was just nice to have someone take care of me without the distractions which are at my house
  15. Thank you so much for your kind words! You made me smile :-)

I don't have any pictures of my scars- I'll see what I can do. I can tell you though that the only scar that is visible is the one where the port was placed. I am now nine months post op and the scar is about 1 1/4 inch long. It is a little bit wider than most as I developed "keloids" Keloids are actual scar tissue that forms because the body over-defends itself as a result of trauma or surgical incisions. I was told it usually happens on people with dark skin but as you can see by my pics i am pretty pale and it happened to me. Oh well, I will take it over being heavy ANYTIME! Now that I am down 75 lbs my port protrudes just a little bit. If I wore a bikini and you were looking for it- you could see it protrude. Otherwise, you can't notice it. Again....I will take it over being heavy.

So when is your surgery? Have a great day and hope to chat with you later!

    Sincerely,

    Shannon

    pre-op

    From the album: my progress

  19. I feel great! The pre-op diet wasn't bad. Only because I was on it for about 5 days! My surgery was scheduled one week out so I didn't have much time to do the pre op diet. I think I lost 5 or 6 lbs in those 5 days.

  20. That is where I went too. I had a good experience there. The nurses were GREAT and took very good care of me. Are you staying the night? I stayed overnight in ICU (because of my sleep apnea) and the care was excellent. When is your surgery date?

  21. HI! Dr. Owens did my lap band in November 2008. I really like him- he is super nice. Which hospital are you going to?
