Hi Jesse I guess I will have to wait and see if I have the same thing as you. I have been eating mushies for almost three weeks now, with no improvement. It is actually getting worse. -

Hello I'llsucceed I am hoping that my doctor (whom I see tmorrow) will either send me to a specialist (and she'll be able to get me in quicker than I could myself) or order an endoscope so I can get this taken care. It's really starting to annoy me. SnowWhite -

having some symptoms with my throat and esophagus
SnowWhite replied to flygirlincolo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Jesse Thank you so much for the information! I guess I will find out more when my test results come back, and also when I see my regular doc tomorrow. I am hoping they schedule an endoscope right away. Sue -
having some symptoms with my throat and esophagus

I, too, am having problems with my esophogas. For the past two weeks, anything I eat or drink hurts - alot!! I went to see my badn doc yesterday and he doesn't think it has anything to do with the band. They did a throat culture (which will be back probably Thursday) as there were some lesions in the back of my throat. He actually thinks I have a viral infection in my esophogas. He made an appointment for me with my regular doc so she can schedule a barium swallow and/or an endoscope. I have lost 11 lbs in 2 weeks, so that's good! But I am diabetic, so not eating and/or drinking is not a good thing. I force myself to eat and drink throughout the day. The only thing I seem to really have good luck with is ice cream, probably because it numbs my esophagus when I swallow. But it is EXTREMELY painful. So if it is an infection, they will put me on a tetracycline antibiotic of some kind. If not, then I guess we do the other tests. But my band doc was sure it wasn't the band, as if the band were too tight, food would not go through and I would be throwing up. -
Hi everyone Yes, I know the wonders chiropractors can work. I go to one myself. Still not able to do more than drink some. My appointment is Monday morning so we shall see. No PBing or anything like that. It is so strange! I do eat very slowly. Take a bite. Chew, chew, chew. Put down my fork. Take a bite, etc. I'm going to continue doing that. I am hoping he can take just a small amount out and not a 1/2cc.

What other kinds of food do you guys all eat that seems to work well?

My doctor doesn't think there is a problem with the band. But you can bet I am going to request they do it any way!! Thanks to everyone for replying!! I appreciate it. A lot.

Hi Jack One should never use those two words in a sentence on an airplane...anyway, are you a doctor? How did you know all that? I made an appointment for Monday morning at 10:35 to try an unfill. Guess we'll have to see how it goes. Thank you!!

Hi Shanna Holy buckets! That's horrible! Did they replace it? I don't think it has slipped - maybe it's beginning to or something. But anyway, I have an appointment Monday morning at 10:35 am. I will be sure to post the results. Thank you sooo much!!

Hi Shanna I can't even get liquids or very soft foods in without pain. I am actually on hold with my doctors office now. How did you discover your band had slipped?
-
Hi Shanna Thanks. I haven't been PB'ing at all. You think I should go in and have some fill removed? Gosh, I hate to do that as before this fill I could eat way too much. I am actually waiting for his nurse to call me back now. Hopefully she will get a chance today.

Gosh I wonder if that's what I'm doing as well. I too get the back pain when I eat or drink. I had a fill mid-March. Stayed on soups and liquids for a week. Gradually started eating again. Went out to dinner one night and ate two very small pieces of fish and three french fries. That was three weeks ago, and I have been having pain when I eat ever since. It is getting worse, too. I haven't thrown up or anything like that, but it sure does hurt a lot. I have tried talking to my surgeon but he seems to think it is supposed to be like this. I disagree. It's like stuff is hanging up in my throat or something. It hurts when I drink anything or try eating anything. I am trying the things I saw on this website (I just found out about it yesterday) like the warm tea, etc. So far today I have eaten a small amount of pudding and a small amount of food. I am trying to drink some gatorade so I don't get too dehydrated, but that is rough going down as well. I don't know what the problem is or how to fix it. Any suggestions?

Hi. I am not sure what is happening with my band either. By the way, what DOES PB stand for? Don't mean to sound dumb, but I honestly can't figure it out. Anyway, I had a fill mid-March. Hi Jack Wow, that is awesome for you! I currently take metformin (5 500mg pills per day), glyburide (2 pills per day), gemfibrizol (2 600mg pills per day) and neurontin (for neuropathy). No insulin shots - yet. My blood sugar seems to be doing well. I was taking 3 glyburides per day but my doctor took me down one. I have lost 52 pounds to date. My original surgery was 03/17/05, but there was a problem with the port, and that was replaced in August 2005. I honestly don't know what size band I have. My doctor said it can hold up to 10cc's if that tells you anything. Eating habits? Right now, I can hardly drink let alone eat without pain. It hurts when I swallow and is now to the point where it pretty much hurts all the time. I had an upper GI done several months ago and everything was fine. I have talked to my surgeon - he thinks I need to give it some more time. I had my last fill (1/2 cc) in March of this year. I have a total of 2.5cc's in now. I have also talked to the nurse practitioner that works with my doctor. I am waiting for her to call me back. She talked to my surgeon about some kind of test where they stick a tube with a camera down my throat, but my surgeon doesn't feel any more testing is needed at this time. I am trying the warm tea thing this morning. Yesterday all I ate was some ice cream and even that went down hard. I am not sure what is wrong. I wish I knew though because this is a major drag.

I, too, am having major pain with eating. It feels like when you take a pill and it gets stuck in your throat. It just hurts going down, no matter what I seem to try (liquids or solids). Nothing comes back up on me, at least not yet, but it sure feels like it will sometimes. I was banded in March 2005, but had to have the port replaced in August 2005 because my doctor couldn't get a need in to fill. I have about 2.5cc's right now. How small of an amount can be taken out? And how much do these actually hold? I am really at a loss. I wish I had done the Roux En Y because I would be off all diabetic meds by now and down my 100 lbs. Anyway, any one who can help, I would appreciate it. Thanks!
