Surgery date getting closer!
Jagator88 replied to shanda7182's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wouldn't buy a whole lot of anything prior to surgery. Your body goes through quite a bit right after surgery. You may develop short term lactose intolerance, acid reflux, heartburn. I know I can't eat or drink anything sweet. All sweets taste 10x sweeter. For example, if I make a cup of tea I use to put in 3 splenda. Now I only need 1. I dilute my juice with water to cut the sweetness. I basically drink lots of water and protein drinks (made with whey). -
Dehydration Issues.
Jagator88 replied to PhotoSteve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was thinking you at least need to speak to a doctor about your issues. It should not be that easy for you to become dehydrated if you are consuming fluid on a regular basis. -
Night Reflux? Maybe?
Jagator88 replied to DownInSocal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have not heard back regarding the acid reflux but I told the nurse I was taking the protonix 2 x per day and if the reflux woke me up I would take a prilosec. Since I have not heard back I am assuming he is OK with what I am doing. I have not been on the protonix long enough for it to be working to its full potential. Nurse called this morning about surgery and it is 09/23 @ 11:30. This is the one to try and open my esophagus back up fully. It is an outpatient surgery that takes about 3 hours. The surgery involves sending a balloon down my throat (thank God I am under for this) and inflating it to pop any remaining stitches and to open the area that closed from being stitched for so long. As you may know they rerouted my saliva to go into a bag to allow my esophagus to heal. I also asked if she could go ahead and schedule the next one as it is due 2 weeks after this one. That surgery is inpatient and is to close the hole in my neck. She said she would get with the doctor and call me back. I'm betting they won't schedule until after this one just in case this surgery is unsuccessful as it was the last time they did it. -
cost of nexium in mexico
Jagator88 replied to cajun's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I asked about that and I know that you can't get a Mexican script filled in the U. S. so it would depend on if your insurance company paid for international medical. From what I understand mine does but I haven't submitted anything yet to confirm. -
Full liquids include clears plus any liquids you can tolerate: sugar-free pudding Low-fat (1%) or Skim Milk No Sugar Added Carnation Instant Breakfast Cream of Wheat (Made thin or soupy with milk) oatmeal (cooked well, made smooth, and thinned with milk) Mashed Potatoes (made smooth, and thinned with milk) Light yogurt (plain or flavored, no fruit pieces at this time) Low-fat small curd cottage cheese (mashed to smooth consistency). You may want to have some lactose pills on hand just in case yo have developed a lactose intolerance.

I think it would feel like too much work carrying the book around and counting points. I know you should log what you eat and stay within certain parameters but I think after a while it will come natural as to what adds up to what.

I had my "food funeral" the day before I started my pre-op. Enjoy!

Glad to know that because I would have thought the red wine would have been the best option.

The VSG is a stand alone procedure that is performed in one surgery. If you do not achieve your desired weight loss a second part of the surgery can be done (duodenal switch) to allow further weight loss.

I think each person is going to be different. I had a few sips of wine and the acid it produced was not worth it. Maybe go easy and drink very light your first time. Beer is probably not a good idea due to the carbonation.

Night Reflux? Maybe?
Jagator88 replied to DownInSocal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am having the same problem and I am on protonix and sleep sitting up (for the most part) in a recliner. I put a call into my doctor this morning to see what can be done as my esophagus has already been rebuilt once and I don't want to chance any damage. I will post when he gets back to me. -
I have to agree with you. I had head hunger from the moment I made my final decision to have this surgery. I am 3 months out, on a feeding tube and still have not been truly hungry but I want to eat so bad I can't stand it. I can have every thing on the full liquids list but it involves all sweets and they are just too sweet. I am about 7 weeks away from going on regular foods and I am making a list and compiling recipes of what I will eat once I am able.

I had a glass of milk with ice (about 3 oz) last night. Lordy was that a mistake. I guess I am now lactose intolerant. I HAVE to drink milk so I am going to try the pills. I sure hope they work because I love milk.

To help ensure no problems I would have the hiatal hernia taken care of prior to wls. It seems every problem I have read about had a hernia involved. I know it was the core of my issues.

Weightloss surgery study @ Johns Hopkins
Jagator88 replied to blueskidoo's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
How is the study going for those participating? -
Did your doctor require that many days or did you do them by choice?

I took Chantix in 2007 and quit smoking for 36 days. As soon as I quit taking it I started smoking again. I had no side effects from it then. I took it again in 2008, quit smoking after 7 days and have not smoked since. I had serious thoughts of suicide that time so I quit taking it after 7 days. Not sure why it affected me differently each time but it does work. Of course, as with anything else, it is directly related to your real desire to quit. It is simply a tool to help.

Complications after Sleeve Surgery
Jagator88 replied to attitudefree's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Have been trying different liquids todays as doctor said I could have anything I can tolerate. Yoohoo is too thick. Diet tea from Publix is too sweet. Crystal Light pink lemonade is too acidic. Guess water it is. Which is really not a bad thing. -
